Just some thoughts from a 360/PS3 owner...
Is it just me, or does it seem like last-gen consoles earned their profits with more justification. To me, it seems like there is way too much hype towards overrated consoles & their overrated games now-a-days. The hype regarding future releases like Killzone 2 & Mass Effect is blown way out of proportion. First off, why doesn't Microsoft spend less time on hyping their product & more time on actually improving it? Seriously. Sony is doing the right thing on that end. But on the opposite end, why is Sony keeping their image of 'most expensive console'? Most of the people who can buy full-price consoles are morons, and yet Sony refuses to accept it. I bought my 60 gig PS3 for $400 and it was worth every red cent. But $600 + tax? That's way too much for me. I think that Sony should either encourage people to buy the PS3 for cheap using an alternative to overpriced retailers[like I did], or they need to have a price drop. From there, Sony needs to encourage gamers to put whatever money they saved on the console towards quality game releases...that way the retailers still earn their profits & gamers get more bang for their buck. However, since I don't buy indiscrimintantly like most of the idiot fanboys do, I will say this... PS3 has a better lineup of high quality selective purchases coming out, 360 is flooding the market with pop games, and both of them have some overhyped titles(but much more on the 360 side of things). Still, I believe that the PS3 is better for the sophisticated gamer & that the 360's community has waaaayyyy too many things holding it back...not to mention a fanboy epidemic. But remember, this is just one person's opinion.
