I hate to say it but the ps3 is a better console. From a disapointed xbox fan

First up: I'm making this post as objective as possible, I realise its not gonna get much love from the microsoft fans but this is the truth for me, or at least how I see it. I only recently purchased a ps3 and have been an xbox fan for a long time.

Here are my overall impressions of the Ps3:

Hardware:

• Its quiet, very quiet, at least comparred to my 360.
• The CD tray is a nice design, also I dont have to worry about moving the console or anything (I have destroyed 3 game disks on the 360 this way)
• The wireless controllers charge off the usb cable, I cant believe the 360 dosn't have this feature its so simplisticly good.
• Fear free gaming :) Whenever my xbox would freeze or crash I would feel the Red Ring of Death fear syndrome. (I got RROD once & had to wait 8 weeks)
• Wireless Internet
• Full HD 1080p, I have a 50'' TV and although the differnce isn't ground breaking Vs the 360 there is definatly an improvement.
• Bluray films are great on my TV and full 7.1 sound I can tell you is a NOTICABLE improvement if you have the system.
• Another great thing is that I can play Full HD 1080p DivX files downloaded from the net, it also plays WMV and xvid standards as well as many more.

Online:

I was expecting the PSN to be vasty inferier to Xbox live, this is because I'm constantly reading forum posts and the such. I definatly prefer the layout and some of the functions of Xbox live but the truth about PSN is as follows:

• Its Lag free, In my experience there has been zero lag so far and I dont even have a great connection. My friends all have similar problems although it was never as bad as mine.
• Its free, Alot of playstation fanboys love to say this and it gets so annoying but I always thought we (360) had a vasty superiour online service. In reality we don't.
• Matchmaking: seems to work amazingly for every game, no waiting around for 30 mins while the live servers go haywire.
• Amount of Players: most games are 32 players which is so good, Resistance 2 has 64 players and its all lag free! Also I heard a 256 player game is comming out soon. We pay microsoft for a service so why do we not have dedicated servers for every game like sony have invested in? Why are 16 max players so common and everyone says it will be too laggy to have more? We all pay them!!!
• Playstation Home: Well this is one thing We are NOT missing out on, it sucks (so far anyway).
• Online browser: The browser is the best on the consoles so far, much better than the Wii one anyway, its not some low res, blurry ordeal, it has adobe flash support and is easy to use. Only trouble is that compared to a PC browser it is slow. (RANT start)WHY O WHY does the 360 not have one??? seriously, microsoft have internet explorer and they coudn't be bothered to implement it on their console? that really annoys me (RANT over)
• (WARNING OPINION: DO NOT READ) I havn't had some idiotic child running around screeming or moaning as of yet, the people online seem more mature.
• Also I can use my mobile phone bluetooth headset :)

I have been playing MSG4, Killzone2, Resistance 2 and Little Big Planet. This might just be opinion but on a 50" TV the graphics seem alot better than anything on the 360. I was blown away with the graphics of Gears of War and thought they were the best I had seen, now I have played MSg4 and KillZone 2 I really dont think anything on the xbox can compete, it remains to be seen if the xbox can get to this level or if it has already reached potential.

That being said though I'm not driven by graphics alone and I much prefer gameplay, MSG4 for me is possibly the best game I have ever played and along with the other games listed above (except maybe resistance 2) I really recommend that EVERYONE plays and enjoys them as you are really missing out if you dont.

I'm hoping that microsoft have some tricks up their sleeve this year, the games being released in 2009 dont seem to be doing anything for me compared to the PS3 releases. I know this is opinion but I know many other feel the same way, infact a few months ago noone I knew had a ps3, now 2 of us have one and 5 others are getting one and 3 people are selling their xbox's to purchase a ps3.

All in all why should we have to deal with a shoddy product that has a 30% failure rate and poor design when there is a better product out there?

EDIT: just to say a small disclaimer that the online issues I have been experiencing may be due to my own ISP and is NOT indicative of everyone elses experience with xbox live. The point I was trying to get across was that we pay for Xbox live when infact the service we receive is equal (or in my case worse) to that of the PSN or free PC servers

Having both i can say they're great consoles.. Personally i prefare PS3 but thats because its exclusives interest me more and in the end we get consoles for games :)

Atm with Killzone2 & SF4 my 360 will enjoy a good long rest :P

Great post,. that just about sums up the differences between the 360 and ps3. I mean, the main complaint with the 360 i have too is the xbox live and online play, which is really poor. Halo 3 lags quite often for me, whereas on ps3, i dont think i've ever lagged. On sf4, i cant get through arcade mode without turning off the auto connect thing, cos i get connected to someone before i even finish the first fight. The fact that MS make you pay for xbox live brings about an expectation that it should run flawlessly, with quick connection and no lag, but sadly, this is not true. Clearly, the ps3 is a better system in itself, hence the price. They said last year and previous years that ps3 had not games, and yes, it was true, although it was bit of a generalisation. Now that some great exclusives are coming, is ps3 back in the competition. I think if we can see online play on the ps3 continue or even improve, then its back to the drawing board for xbox and ms, cos xbox live sucks (except for games where fps is locked ie forza 2) Do you think rpg games are more superior on pc due to multiple button configuration. I found fallout and oblivion far more enjoyable on pc, and i never understood why fable was a good game. But yes, pc = rpg = diablo 3 = please hurry up and release it. Good alternatives to rpg on ps3 are games like Ninja Gaiden and Heavenly Swordtirralirra

Yes your right, I hadn't touched on the price issue which I suppose is what you are paying the extra for. All in all I wouldn't be disapointed with the xbox if I choose it over the ps3 but if you have the money I think the ps3 is better.

Tbh I dont play rpgs much, I like oblivion on Xbox and I play Warcraft which I think you really need the multiple buttons if your playing Vs other players. I will be playing diablo 3 as well though :) I loved the original.

I think its quite big diffencess when you add up the wirless internet and blueray as well as the hardware inside. I havn't played ANY games on the ps3 that are 1080p native so far. all the games are upscaled but there are quite a few upcomming releases in 1080p native.

Since you like it so much, I recommend getting Uncharted. No PS3 collection is complete without it.

While the browser is currently the best on consoles, that's not saying much. It still sucks imo, way too slow for some reason. Good post though, I agree with pretty much everything else. I still happen to like my 360 more.killerfist

You know, normally, critics would give a game a 6 out of 10 if there was something physically wrong with the game. Other than a slightly disappointing campaign mode, there's nothing broken or boring about the game.

The online part is just my particular experience and there is no reference to a PSN magical wonderland where all your dreams are made. What hard numbers do you want me to put? Do Microsoft and Sony log their lag times and amount of time waiting then publish them?

When I choose the rating it said 6 = 'Fair' which is my opinion of the game. Theres is nothing fundamentaly wrong with the game (although I do get stuck alot online) I just dont think its better than fair

Sorry If I came across that way and I'm sure your probably right, infact I know your right. Its just on the same ISP my ps3 peforms better and with less lag. The point I was trying to get across though is that the PSN is not drastically worse then XLive and I dont see what we get extra for our subscription fee, especially as I can start up a 64 player madness for free :)

Lol The first time I moved the console, I didn't realise that the xbox had this problem! The other two times were accidents, one involving a cat and the other my foot.

I think if we can see online play on the ps3 continue or even improve, then its back to the drawing board for xbox and ms, cos xbox live sucks (except for games where fps is locked ie forza 2) Do you think rpg games are more superior on pc due to multiple button configuration. I found fallout and oblivion far more enjoyable on pc, and i never understood why fable was a good game. But yes, pc = rpg = diablo 3 = please hurry up and release it. Good alternatives to rpg on ps3 are games like Ninja Gaiden and Heavenly SwordMortalDecay

Actually, they both PSN and Live have the same User client model (not P2P) However theres some First party PS3 games on dedicated servers. Generally, when someone says "its lag free" over another network, I take it as a lack of knowledge about how these services work. Which explains my response to the TC about his opinions on PSN.

• Full HD 1080p, I have a 50'' TV and although the differnce isn't ground breaking Vs the 360 there is definatly an improvement.
• Another great thing is that I can play Full HD 1080p DivX files downloaded from the net, it also plays WMV and xvid standards as well as many more.

I also have a 50" 1080p TV and both my 360 and PS3 chuck out a full 1080p image I dont get what you mean in the first bullet point Ive listed above, and the 360 also plays 1080p DIVX, WMV, and XVID files from the net and MP4's this the PS3 cant do but yet you right it like the PS3 has this better than the 360 when really they both do the same thing at pretty much the same standard.

Not an Xbox problem, its a physics problem. I wouldn't move my console while its on. Not my DVD player and certainly not my PS3. Whether its only happened on Xbox doesn't matter, its a malfunction due to user negligence.

Im not sure I understand you? Has Xbox implemented 1080p output now? how do you play 1080p resolution on it?

Honestly I really dont mind if you dont think I have an xbox, This is just my opinion on the matter and I really am sorry if it comes across as biased. I dont see how giving my gamertag will help convince you as I can easily just use someone elses if I wanted to 'prove' I had a 360. And yes I am bashing the Xbox a bit because I think they could have done better.

Hardware:

• Its quite, very quite, at least comparred to my 360. *INSTALL YOUR GAMES THEN.*
• The CD tray is a nice design, also I dont have to worry about moving the console or anything (I have destroyed 3 game disks on the 360 this way)
• *YOUR FAULT*
• The wireless controllers charge off the usb cable, I cant believe the 360 dosn't have this feature its so simplisticly good. *IT DOES: PLAY AND CHARGE KIT*
• Wireless Internet *CAN BE ADDED*

you go to display settings and selsct 1080p and low and behold it out puts 1080p, did you not set yours up or something I watch movies both on DVD and off my PC in 1080p and play all my games in 1080

However, MS must have done something right. The 360 does have the better game library, and it has been more successful.
