I hate to say it but the ps3 is a better console. From a disapointed xbox fan

[QUOTE="Jandurin"] That's not the point :| He said it's more important, and that's not true. Also, one of the consoles has more quality games than the other.VoodooHak

A quality system is more important, what good is a system that dont work. The 360 might have more quality games (your opinion), but how you gonna play them on a system that dont work, so yes a quality system is more important.

So let's look at the NPDs as a litmus test on that theory. How's that working out for MS and Sony? Hmm... looks like the data doesn't support your hypothesis.

The only reasonably conclusion is that the situation is more complex than you think. There are other factors at play here.

Things to consider:

  • MS has taken steps to alleviate the failure rate of its hardware. They've made good on replacing faulty systems.
  • Xbox Live is still the superior online service despite the fee
  • Price is still a huge factor

It's great that the PS3 is finally coming into its own, but let's keep a little objectivity here.

LOL, NPD data, try using a lil commom sence. It commom sence that you cannot play a 360 game with no 360......thats where quality comes in. So yes, quality is more important. Now you said this:

  • Price is still a huge factor You get what you pay for

I dont know about you but I rearly but low quality "anything?

the RROD is much lower than it used to be. and you're assuming that every system breaks, which is not true. mine has been going 2+ years. believe it or not, my PS3 actually broke, not that it was a huge deal. they, like MS, fixed the problem for free, and returned my system in about 1.5 weeks. please quit acting like a RROD separates you and your system for months on end, because its simply not true. and as far as "you get what you pay for," i guess your right. with the PS3, you are paying for a BR player and wifi, which have absolutely nothing to do with gaming.

honestly, your posts come off as extremely biased toward Sony.

Not to mention that quality isn't limited only to hardware. There's a quality in customer service, which MS has delivered by addressing the hardware issue. There's a quality in PR, which MS is doing a much better job at by properly managing expectations and getting behind their product with advertising. There's a quality in online services which they have delivered in spades with Xbox Live. There's a quality in strategy. MS recognizes that gaming is a whole ecosystem of parts that have to work well together. From hardware (admittedly their weakest point) to their library of games, to an extremely well thought out online service, to innovative dashboard features, to integration with Xbox.com.

All of those play a part in quality.

Of course, Sony has their own take on things and, for better or worse, they're dealing with with their shortcomings and successes.

Ive seen a common trend of a lot people trading up to a PS3. Its the superior system in basically every way. When I go on kijiji I see A LOT of people offering 360s + all their games for even low HDD PS3 models. Ive played both consoles, and its very clear which is the better overall package. I feel like SW would be obsolete if every 360 owner was given a PS3 with all its best games.

More or less all the advantages of the PS3, of course if you wanted to prove it was better it would make more sense to do a comparison. I have a small prefrence for the PS3 personally, but the 360 does beat it in quite a few essential areas, most importantly pirce and SKU choices. I can't stand paying for Live though, it frustrates me to no end. I am constantly disconected. Stupid Tiscali, completely useless.

It would be because everyone would own a PS3, and they wouldn't need to bother arguing. Not that I need to now, which is why I intend not to.

Yeah, like I buy a gaming console to stare at it's hardware or search the web. Tons of useless features, all I wanna do is play games.

I have to say the 360 has much more good games but when the PS3 has a great game it is way over the top. Both consoles are good imo.

First up: I'm making this post as objective as possible, I realise its not gonna get much love from the microsoft fans but this is the truth for me, or at least how I see it. I only recently purchased a ps3 and have been an xbox fan for a long time.

Here are my overall impressions of the Ps3:

Hardware:

  • Its quiet, very quiet, at least comparred to my 360. The newer 360s are much quieter, though mine is loud.
  • The CD tray is a nice design, also I dont have to worry about moving the console or anything (I have destroyed 3 game disks on the 360 this way) Again that was your console, mine doesn't do that (though moving any console with a disc playing is stupid)
  • The wireless controllers charge off the usb cable, I cant believe the 360 dosn't have this feature its so simplisticly good. Play and charge kit?
  • Fear free gaming :) Whenever my xbox would freeze or crash I would feel the Red Ring of Death fear syndrome. (I got RROD once & had to wait 8 weeks) I agree I sometimes experience that, but apparantly MS has fixed the RROD problem, key word, apparantly
  • Wireless Internet I guess that's cool free, but you can but a wireless adapter, especially on EBAY, for much cheaper
  • Full HD 1080p, I have a 50'' TV and although the differnce isn't ground breaking Vs the 360 there is definatly an improvement. 360 has 1080p, but not full HD unless you are doing it digitally
  • Bluray films are great on my TV and full 7.1 sound I can tell you is a NOTICABLE improvement if you have the system. Blu-ray is just an added bonus
  • Another great thing is that I can play Full HD 1080p DivX files downloaded from the net, it also plays WMV and xvid standards as well as many more. You can do that on the 360

Online:

I was expecting the PSN to be vasty inferier to Xbox live, this is because I'm constantly reading forum posts and the such. I definatly prefer the layout and some of the functions of Xbox live but the truth about PSN is as follows:

  • Its Lag free, In my experience there has been zero lag so far and I dont even have a great connection. My friends all have similar problems although it was never as bad as mine. I almost never have lag on live, even with my crappy connection. PS3 will have as much lag as Xbox, its all P2P, unless there are dedicated servers involved
  • Its free, Alot of playstation fanboys love to say this and it gets so annoying but I always thought we (360) had a vasty superiour online service. In reality we don't. 4 bucks a month for live...
  • Matchmaking: seems to work amazingly for every game, no waiting around for 30 mins while the live servers go haywire. Matchmaking is so smooth on the 360, what are you talking about
  • Amount of Players: most games are 32 players which is so good, Resistance 2 has 64 players and its all lag free! Also I heard a 256 player game is comming out soon. We pay microsoft for a service so why do we not have dedicated servers for every game like sony have invested in? Why are 16 max players so common and everyone says it will be too laggy to have more? We all pay them!!! Although I wouldn't enjoy playing with that many people, I agree its a cool feature and that 360 games should be able to do it
  • Playstation Home: Well this is one thing We are NOT missing out on, it sucks (so far anyway) I haven't messed around with it enough to know
  • Online browser: The browser is the best on the consoles so far, much better than the Wii one anyway, its not some low res, blurry ordeal, it has adobe flash support and is easy to use. Only trouble is that compared to a PC browser it is slow. (RANT start)WHY O WHY does the 360 not have one??? seriously, microsoft have internet explorer and they coudn't be bothered to implement it on their console? that really annoys me (RANT over) Seriously, that is the most unnecessary thing on a console ever
  • (WARNING OPINION: DO NOT READ) I havn't had some idiotic child running around screeming or moaning as of yet, the people online seem more mature. Because no one on PSN has mics
  • Also I can use my mobile phone bluetooth headset :)

I have been playing MSG4, Killzone2, Resistance 2 and Little Big Planet. This might just be opinion but on a 50" TV the graphics seem alot better than anything on the 360. I was blown away with the graphics of Gears of War and thought they were the best I had seen, now I have played MSg4 and KillZone 2 I really dont think anything on the xbox can compete, it remains to be seen if the xbox can get to this level or if it has already reached potential.

That being said though I'm not driven by graphics alone and I much prefer gameplay, MSG4 for me is possibly the best game I have ever played and along with the other games listed above (except maybe resistance 2) I really recommend that EVERYONE plays and enjoys them as you are really missing out if you dont.

I'm hoping that microsoft have some tricks up their sleeve this year, the games being released in 2009 dont seem to be doing anything for me compared to the PS3 releases. I know this is opinion but I know many other feel the same way, infact a few months ago noone I knew had a ps3, now 2 of us have one and 5 others are getting one and 3 people are selling their xbox's to purchase a ps3.

All in all why should we have to deal with a shoddy product that has a 30% failure rate and poor design when there is a better product out there?

EDIT: just to say a small disclaimer that the online issues I have been experiencing may be due to my own ISP and is NOT indicative of everyone elses experience with xbox live. The point I was trying to get across was that we pay for Xbox live when infact the service we receive is equal (or in my case worse) to that of the PSN or free PC servers

n4styg1t

And finally, I prefer 360 games, I like them way more, but that is a matter of opinion.

The one thing about human nature is when someone is called out wrongly they are extremely swift to provide their accuser with their humble pie.

Any person wrongly called out about owning a 360 after "objectively" comparing it to the PS3, in a thread that looks like it took some time to prepare, would act as above.

Good day sir. Enjoy your imaginary consoles because I don't believe you own either.

Burnsmiesta

Um.... didnt PS_John try this, too? :)
