I dont know why but i think while in the very short term the video game market will boom but in the next year or two it will crash similar to how it crashed in the late 80s..

We are almost seeing the same patterns in the gaming business now that we did in the late 80s. I think console makers will put most of the focus on gimmicky motion controls and motion sensing and I also think 3D gaming will be a huge flop as well.. The fact remains is i think graphics for video games have gotten as good as it gets.

Doesnt it not concern anyone that we are already the 5th year in this generation of consoles and still we have not heard one peep about a new console set to come out? I mean usually we start hearing "strong rumors" about new consoles coming out or to be announced at E3 and so far we have heard not one single word about new consoles.

I mean the 360 is barely making a profit now and the PS3 is still bleeding money even after 5 years on the market.. Why would MS and Sony invest more money now in a brand new console venture when they are barely even making money with the consoles currently out..

Another factor that will contribute to the next gaming crash is way to much emphasis on online gaming and over saturation of shooters that people will frankly just get tired of.. I just have a feeling that in the next couple years we will have another gaming crash.

No, the market is healthy. Its on its usual generational decline. NATAL and Arc are trying to slow that down. The market will not crash though. Its just not going to happen. However, the market is kinda a mess right now.

The market is extremely healthy right now in all respects. Finanicially yes and something you guys will deny but it's so true: Innovation is HUGE now. In comparison to old, perhaps besides the initial batch of NES games, this is the time in which we are seeing the most unique games come from.

Natal and motion controls will be the downfall of gaming in the next 1-2 years, mark my words.. motion controls have already run its course with the Wii, when Natal and Arc come out it, it will be a huge failure due to what i like to call "motion fatigue" that the public will have by the time they are both released. I mean right now the gaming market is built on a house of cards of nothing but rehashed shooters.. Halo Reach, Medal Of Honor, Gears 3,Spec Ops the line, Bad company 2 and Crysis 2 are all the big name games coming out and all are shooters.. Right now its online MP based shooters keeping the market alive and once that bubble bursts then the house of cards comes falling down.. Im being serious when saying this and im not trying to sound like a fanboy whatsoever, but thank God for Sony for atleast trying to keep the gaming market somewhat fresh still with titles such as Heavy Rain, Modnation racers and the Last guardian.. I think Sony is the only console maker making a effort to keep some innovation in gaming., However with that said, i dont think it will be enough to save the gaming industry from the ineveitble crash

The reason for the first crash was quality.

the quality was terrible.

we do not have that problem. everything in the economy, luxury items especially, are on a downturn.

the industry is shifting and finding it's footing.

Now this market is far from healthy.. The gaming market now is how the economy was from 2004-2007, it was all built on a housing bubble that crashed and led to the financial crisis of 2 years ago.. Right now the gaming market is the same position, all the top selling games are shooters with other non shooter games selling lackluster. Once the Shooter bubble bursts the house of cards will collapse.

If the market does crash, it will have nothing to do with motion controls. Absolutely nothing.

Production costs would be the cause, if such a thing were to happen. The production costs of games are rising dramatically creating the death of 3rd party system exclusives.

Umm... okay. You just don't understand how things work apparently and have no actual understanding of the market. I'm noticing a trend here.

What worries me is i think Arc and Natal are MS and sony's answer to "next gen gaming" as opposed to releasing a new console, i think graphics have peaked in terms of consoles and MS and Sony cant really release a new console and push the market further, instead they are releasing motion controls to try and stave off a inevetible gaming crash.

I also think DLC will play a huge part in a crash.. The more greedy devs get the worse it will be for the industry.

Sorry but you have not proven yourself a credible enough poster for me to seriously hold you to those words. Your Sony fanboy is showing but its irrelevant. Sony is not nearly popular enough to keep the market fresh. Something I don't get is why people think the market wants fresh? If the people still want generic shooters, give them what they want until they're board. There are lots of markets healthy and unexplored just waiting to be exploited.

There's no reason to think that. The industry is doing fine.

As I recall one of the major contributing factors to the crash was retailers, seeing declining sales as a sign that the "video game fad" had ended, taking them off shelves to make room for new toys. This is something that most certainly wouldn't happen today.

I think we might see a "genre" crash concerning shooters. But not an entire video game crash.

Isn't that Good for the Economy for People to buy?

or is it Good for people to save?

The 'gimmicky controls' will bring more revenue into the industry. I have a feeling the only way this industry is going to go south is if game production rates continue to soar with little or negative profits.

imo that would be a good thing. there are WAY too many shooters this gen. I liked it back in the SNES days were platformers ruled.

Sony has yet to start even making money off PS3s last I heard. Making a new console now would be an epic disaster. As I recall though all console companies at some point or another have said this generation will be much longer than any other.
