...so you want an RTS to not turn out like an RTS? SC2 is staying faithful to the original (from what I've seen so far), so you're out of luck.

Never fails. Whenever a milestone game becomes a classic, you will get people who hate it. A shame...

They are taking many steps to make sure it is the best game it can be. Such as keeping it at only 3 races so it will be easier to make completely balance, and not releasing it until they think it is ready. Personally I think it will be a amazing game, better than first? Hard to say because its really hard to top a game that left as big of an impact as SC.

Its staying faithful to Dune2...

I guess you can say that in the same way as saying "every FPS stays faithful to Doom/castle wolfenstein."

Well, sorry to disappoint you, but it's just going to be Starcraft with prettier graphics, new units, and the continuation of the storyline. It's just a sequel.

What is Dune 2?

Also I think they wills tick to the same formula as the original Starcraft, so your hope won't come true.

And that is all I want. I don't know what this guy's obssession is with forcing his rather intrusive opinions on people, but it really irks me when people call the highly-acclaimed games I've enjoyed since I was 5 (Command and Conquer, Warcraft, Starcraft, etc) 'pathetic click fests'.

That it wont be another Dune2 clone...

Its almost 15 years now that that game has haunted the RTS genre: memorise shortcuts, memorise build orders, build bas, collect resources, rush the opponent, click faster: WIN...

World in Conflict and the TW series are tiny exceptions in the darkess of pathetic clickfests...

True_Gamer_
Yeah, I also hope that Halo 3 won't be another Wolfenstien 3D clone. Simply run and gun with a bit of strategy and tactics thrown in. Can we agree on that one too? Hell while were at it we could come up with an entire book of these "shameless" clones that plague our industry and I'm sure Crysis will fit on there some how too.

Hell, why stop at video games? Take a gander at the games outside the electronic entertainment industry, such as board and card games. Look at all the shameless clones in THAT industry, such as UNO...it uses CARDS, when games like Blackjack and Poker use cards too! God, what has become of this sad, sad world...

Why stop at interactive entertainment? Why don't we uncover all the clones in Art, Movies, Music, Television and so on? Hell I think we could even uncover all the clones in Sports too.

LMAO! And people say JRPG's are repetitive. The whole industry is like this it's what creates a "genre" you know having alot of game similar to one another?

end of thread.  Blizzard will deliver.  by all accounts, this game looks and sounds like the sequel we've been waiting for.

You obviously haven't played too many RTS's lately.  Company of Heroes, Battle for Middle-Earth (I & II), and Supreme Commander also stray far from the Dune 2 style of gameplay. Really, only the C&C and Age series are still using those outdated formulas.

I disagree. We hardly get traditional RTSes anymore, the genre has moved into resource-less territories or added other new elements. I'm not complaining., but variety is good and with CnC3 being preety underwhelming we do have severe lack fo traditional RTSes now. So it's good to see Blizzard won't stray too much from the formula

And really..a Dune2 clone? Total War is bassicaly Lots of the realms2 clone, so please stop with the melodrama.

Is LOR2 turn based? No? there you go half of the game is different... Does it have 3d enviroment as STW? No? hmmm again different...

I dare anyone to try to memorise anything or have great reflexes to go online at M2TW and feel what real tactical thinking is all about...

So you love TW, we all know, you've made 2000000 topics over it. I hope starcraft 2 turns out like starcraft 1, and NOT like TW.

is going to be almost the same gameplay because starcraft has  a huge fanbase and they know what the fanbase wants more of the same.

Erm...LoR2 IS turn-based(only third part moved fully into real-time). And no..it doesn't have 3D enviorements, but guess what? Neither did Dune2 or original Starcraft, so SC2 is diffrent already :)

Abnd really..I like M2TW, but in reality the series hardly evolved since 2002, not to mention CA regularly ignores the three biggest fan complains (lack of naval combat, lack of campaign multiplayer and crappy battle AI)

I wish some worthy contender would rise for TW, compared to WWII wargames where games are getting better and deeper all the time TW is bassicaly stuck, while it could have been so much more.

You might bash SC for lack of tactics(but guess what? It's not about tactics), but the diffrence between games like Combat Mission and TW in tactics is as big as between SC and TW

If a supposed strategy game isnt at all about tactics then its not a strategy game anymore rather than a memry/reflexes benchmark...

As far as CA and TW are concerned IMO only WiC comes close to the style and gameplay of the genre...No basebuilding no resourcecollecting...

And IMO CA is trapped in their little monopoly of thousands of troops ultimate melee wargame world since none steps in to compete with them...As for the whole AI thing thats the key to why the series are so amazing they are so NOT speed dependant that the AI simply cant cope in the way that the Dune2 clo(w)nes do through sheer speed outasking... There are just too many variables...

Also campaign multiplayer is impossible from ground up as for navall battles the engine of RTW wasnt designed for them im confident they will come in the next engine...
