My PS3 Slim can take up to 15 seconds to turn off. My PC will be off well within that time... unless there's updates, but that's no fair.Stevo_the_gamer
What did Sony do to it!? OR what did you do to it!? :o
[QUOTE="GreenGoblin2099"]After of tons of threads and hundreds of replies someone finally agreed with me on something! WOOT! It took me years to come up with this argument but I say it was well worth it! :DConfirmed:
Consoles = t3h w1n!!1!11

If you're turning off your computer you're doing it wrong. Turning off and on your computer costs you more over the long run. The innitial boot up costs in power exceed the idled use of the computer over the night in sleep mode or something. It also adds more wear and tear on your parts. VandalvideoI'm still learning the basics. Is there a website where I can learn more important stuff like this?

It's pretty quirky at times, and rather unpredictable, sometimes it won't even turn off and I'll have to pull the plug out from the back. Uhh, it takes less than 5 second to put a computer into standby and wake it up from stand by. Thread fails.KHAndAnimeNo it doesn't; An outdated and ignored feature is still a feature we can compare with. Consoles turn off better than PCs. And that's a fact. Sorry. :(

PC turns off just as fast, if not faster than both my PS3 and Xbox.

See what happens when you turn a PC off is that it cools down and the parts contract. When you turn it back on the parts heat up and expand. Repeated use of this every single day maybe multiple times a day can have serious effects on your hardware. It also spikes your energy bill. Also, I'm not surprised that console fans haven't heard of this even though it is a huge debate in the PC community; to turn off or not to turn off that is the question.

Are stand-by and sleep the same thing? 2. My parents are so computer illiterate, how am I going explain to them leaving my PC on 24/7 is better for it and consumes less money?

As far as your parents are concerned, there are some pretty good articles on the internet you could dig up if you're really interested. I'm sure your parents would appreciate your initiative. or i think you can do a month-long experiment and show them the result

Well, that certainly has nothing to do with it... my current PC is like 5 or 6 y.o. and I turn it off every night when I go to sleep.
But it's a Sony Vaio... IT SHOWS HOW MUCH SONY WINS!!!
:P
[QUOTE="Snagal123"]That has a small chance at causing damage though. less of a chance of damaging a PC by pulling the plug than by just RUNNING a 360 in normal operations ....Pulling the power cable out the back is pretty instant :)
Nerkcon
Turning it off at the wall is no where near as manly as just pulling the cable out the back.

You want manliness? Here's an alternative:

Thats manly, but i fear his computer may still be turned on, hes only solved a small part of the problem here, but its a good way to go about it.
