I am looking into traqding my 360 and Wii into for a new PS3 slim. The PS3 is finally at a price point that makes a trade resonable and its games library really has my interest peaked. My question is what do you guys think I could get for a 360 Pro and a Wii at Gamestop. I also have Madden 10, Operation Flashpoint DR, Fable 2 and Mario Kart Wii.

I realize that I will be getting a bad value with the trade in, but I dont have any time in my life for more than one console. Im hoping that with games and system values, I can come close to being even on the trade. What do you all think?

I say good choice. I've started a lot of trends with my friends with the PS3 and PSP. When I got may PS3, 3 of my friends got one a week or two later. I got my PSP a year ago and now 6 friends got em.

You gotta figure this.

Microsoft, a software company, makes crap hardware, but a smooth running software.

Sony, a hardware company, makes amazing hardware, but not as good software (but not crap)

Huge waste, you should just save up for the PS3 since its so much cheaper now, then you wont have to miss out on any exclusives. If your desperate trade in some games you never play anymore or extra controllers you rarely use towards a new console, but trading in two consoles for one is a rash decision that you will regret.

Keep your Wii and 360 and save up to buy a PS3.

Honestly, I highly doubt you'll get anywhere near $300 for the trades you listed if you're planning on taking them to GameStop.

My advice would be to not trade the two systems in the first place and save your money for the PS3 but if you really want to get rid of your 360 and Wii, websites like eBay and Amazon would be your best bet.

If you must make sacrifices toobtain a ps3 .... go for it. Call them up and ask what they'll give you forthem , and let us know .... I'm sure you're not the only one who's readyfor a change at this point.

Why don't you go cry over a 9.3 score? Haha

But seriously, how you could even think that is beyond me. I'm willing to bet you only own a PS3, andhave never owned a 360 or wii therefore you don't know what you're on about.

Nope. Wii trade in price is around $80 trade-in credit and Xbox 360 is most definitely less than $100, although you can trade in your hard drive separately and the trade in values will depend on the hard drive capacity. You won't get much more than $200 if you're lucky for the systems themselves, although extra controllers and accessories can also be traded in. In the end it would require a pile of accessories and about 3-6 fairly recent games to exceed $350 in my estimate. Trade ins almost never exceed $180, and the receipt tape is always about 2 feet long (miles of trades). I'm not exactly an Xbox 360 or a Wii fan, but I would cling to those systems for dear life instead of trading it in to a blood sucking pawn shop. It's not in your best interest at all.

That's what the saying says?? :P

I've never recommended trading one console for another... I'm more like "save up and get what you want". That way you won't have any regrets.

UNLESS you have no real interest on upcoming games for your current consoles, in that casego ahead, but I'd still wouldn't recommend it.

If you're gonna do it, I'd at least take a week to advertise in your local paper or online and sell it yourself. If you do, you're gonna end up with more cash than what Gamestop will give you.

Well, yes, if the console and its titles don't interest you in the slightest, then it's probably safe to go ahead and trade them in. But if there's even a sliver of doubt in one's head, then they shouldn't under any circumstances. It may take a few months for the regret to hit, but when it does, it's a real doozy of a downer.

Just as others, I wouldn't suggest trading in your systems. While the PS3 is a great system, there are some great games coming out for the 360 and the Wii, so you might just keep them if you're interested in any upcoming exclusives to the other systems.

Around that many, yeah, but in the OP he said outright that he owns 3 games between two systems and doesn't have enough time to play the games of three platforms. Warhawk, MGS4, KZ2, Resistance 1 & 2, Uncharted 1 & 2, Ratchet FTOD and the new one, InFamous.... isn't that enough for any reasonable gamer with only average weekly play times?

Nope. That's not how it works. Every game in the system has a set trade in value. It is only increased through sales. The current sale is as follows: trade in 3 games and get an extra $10 trade in credit towards the whole transaction or trade in 4 games and get an extra $20 trade in credit towards the whole transaction. In other words you're going to want to trade games in in groups of four. That or you can wait til the next trade-in special, although it's unlikely you'll be able to beat $20 for 4 games ($5 apiece). This is more or less the best trade in deal I've ever seen as far as a ratio of extra cash per trade in.

Yeeesh, I'm not big on trade-in's but my advice would be to keep the Wii. You don't really need both a PS3 and a 360, most games these days are multiplatform but if your 360 & games don't fetch you the Trey just keep 'em both& save up the dough.

I don't remember the exact numbers, but all in all it was a really good deal. I think it might have been limited time only though.

But remember that the difference is so minimal that you would have to spend more time upclose analyzing the game then actually playing the game to notice the difference.

Don't be silly. Trade in games you don't want, but keep the consoles. There may be a point in the future a game you want comes to a console you don't own... and you'll feel really bad when you traded it in for practically nothing and have to buy it again.

don't do it at gamestop. Sell them on Ebay and make tons of money. Example: I asked GS how much I could trade CoD4 in for (Q1 2009) and they said $15. Well I said **** that and sold it on ebay for $40.

I'd go for it. In the last couple years PS3 has quickly grown to the best system to own. The next year or so will solidify that. It all comes down to the fact that Sony has 16 first party studios, Nintendo has 9 and Microsoft has 5. The more first party studios you have, the more exclusives you have (as long as their good studios), and actually Sony has the highest average review score of any major publisher out there. I saw that info in an article on gamasutra earlier this year, was pretty surprised. Their average metacritic score for a game is something like 81%.

It's a scale of 10% for 3 games, 20% for 4 games, and 30% for 5 games. It's a trade in promotion and it's seasonal, it's not all the time. At any rate your games would have to be worth $16.50 apiece for you to get equivalent added value to the existing trade in promotion ($5 apiece). That's not just highly unlikely, it's not going to happen. You'd have to have really recent games just to match the existing promo, but by the time the scaling promotion comes back around the trade in values of your existing games would have dropped anyway, defeating the purpose.

I really, really sugest selling those two on Ebay or Kijiji or Craigslist or something. Sell it to a friend or a friend of a friend, you'll get way more money for them.

As for the PS3, it's a great system. Enjoy.

Longcat2

This. I don't think it's ever a good idea to trade in a console. You've already made the investment, and there is a great chance that a game on the 360 or Wii will catch your eye in the future. Just same up for a PS3 and then you'll have all three to chose from.

[QUOTE="Brownesque"][QUOTE="Messiahbolical-"][QUOTE="Brownesque"] Nope.

? I know they have a set trade in value... but when I traded in a bunch of old games and consoles, they had a deal where if you trade in 3 games they give you an extra 15% credit and if you trade in 7 they give you an extra 30% credit all on the total amount. I don't remember the exact numbers, but all in all it was a really good deal. I think it might have been limited time only though.

You'd have to have really recent games just to match the existing promo, but by the time the scaling promotion comes back around the trade in values of your existing games would have dropped anyway, defeating the purpose.

...? Okay. You completely missed the point. They gave me 30% on the TOTAL amount. Including the consoles I traded in. A PS2 w/network adapter and Gamecube on top of all the games I traded in. I got WAY more money than I would have doing it the way you did.
