[QUOTE="Udsen"]I can't even download the demo on XBL. Yay for being 16 >.>goddamn_

If you download the demo you will immediately get into rampage and start killing everybody on the street with chainsaw and shotgun. Jack Tompson said so

So basically, if I did want to download it on XBL, I'd have to pay at least 8 dollars for a month subscription on a new account.

Lame deal, MS.

Welcome to the Microsoft way of doing business on a console.

Essentially - you've already bought an Xbox 360, so they're going to nickle-and-dime you at every turn, because paying $50 here-and-there is still "cheaper" than buying a new system.

cosmostein77

I spent about the same amount downloading pay demos over PSN (GT) that I did on Live in 2007,

Congratulations on perpetuating a bad trend?

More like pointing out a reality,

You made the comment "welcome to the way of Microsoft doing business on a console" which is fairly incorrect.

It seems to be a common tread among all three console manufacturers this generation to have an "e-wallet" or "points" to make purchases online.

Its hardly a Microsoft only issue,

I'm not talking about microtransactions, I'm talking about Microsoft removing functionality from Xbox LIVE silver to force people who own the system to subscribe to gold accounts. They're removing a function (get demos at the same time as gold members) that existed when you bought the console, in order to make you pay them additional funds.

You cant be serious. They're preventing minors playing games rated M? And that's FAIL microsoft? :? Maybe you should have had the forsight to say you were older when you set up your 360? Or maybe you should simply accept the law and that you cannot play these games because you are under the age the developers think is suitable for people to play it?

If you can't wait one week for a demo, then you have problems. Wait a minute, if you can't afford $50 a year for Live, you have problems and should get a job! Sorry, I'm frustrated today.

You fail at reading comprehension.

It's fine that they prevent me from DLing, it's up to them. It's a fail when my friend is 17, calls MS and complains and they say "they don't know why it's like that".

As far as I'm concerned, a game demo is something whose value decreases tremendously within the first few days it's available. By the time a week has gone by, the demo is worth nothing. Therefore from my perspective, isn't giving me anything unless I bend over and pay for Gold.

That's just so wrong i dont even know where to start.

It's really very simple; they offer a service for FREE and a service you PAY FOR. The GOLD members must get some perks over the free accounts; otherwise you're literally paying money just to pay online. That's rubbish. There has to be some sort of feature-set for gold users.

And when popular demos come out; that's one of them. Gold members are allowed to download them first. Users who are using the service for free can then download them. Basically, if you're paying, you should have priority downloading popular demos, rather than letting everyone pile in, causing slow downloads.

If you honestly think that's unjust, i dont know what to say to you. They're not taking anything away from you. They're simply giving priority to their paid subscribers, and rightfully so.

The day they dont let you download demos full stop is the day you may whine about it.

Or just wait five days 'til silver users can download it. If you're under-age, that's your problem. You cant blame microsoft for not allowing minors to download mature rated games. Come on.

i got a ps3 and 360... and i thought well ill just DL it on 360 because PS3 wont have it until later today

so i try to download it and it says i need to be a gold member? and silver will get it a few days later? OMG what a ripoff now i need to PAY for demos?

another reason why PSN>>>XBL

Huff

No you dont have to pay for demos, you have to pay for a gold membership and then you can download.MS isnt going "o you have to pay $5 to download this demo",its just to get people to pay for gold.

But good thing i bought my $50 membership so now i dont have to pay for anything and i get to use a online service that doesnt suck like psn.

please list how XBL is better than PSN. i would love to see you try to justify throwing 50$ a year down the drain.

Please tell me how someone who is an adult, or at least mature enough to spend a grand on two video game consoles, can continue to piss and moan over four dollars a month like they're on a fixed income?

serously, even homeless people could afford XBL, they make more than 50 bucks a year, and most of it actually does go down a drain (in urine form)

Ah, so you're the person who decides what people can and can't complain about. I'll have to write that down somewhere for future reference.

You completely missed his point, which is that the the whole situation is screwed up because MS took away a feature from Silver users in order to make Gold users feel better about themselves. This is like buying a car, and then one day Toyota comes down to your garage and takes out the Air Conditioning so they can give it to people who bought the higher model.

It was clearly just my opinion; when they restrict your right to download things entirely, whine about it. When they simply give priority to their subscribers; you have nothing to whine about. You're not paying anything. You cant whine about having to wait a few days to get something you aren't paying for.

And yes, that's just my opinion. I'd have thought that was obvious. Unless you'd rather i mark every post with "in my opinion" to point out the already patently obvious.

And no; wrong. They did not "take away" a feature at all. You can still download demos. The only difference is that when popular demos come out which millions rush to download, making the servers slow, priority is given to Gold members. And rightfully so. People paying money for xbox live should be able to download these things first before they're released to everyone else.

You aren't paying anything, so you have no right to complain. They haven't taken away a feature; they're simply addressing the complaints of live users that new demos take forever to download when they first come out because of the volume of downloads. Thus, if you're paying money for the service, you get it early to prevent that.

I pay money. I see no problem with that. If i was using the service for free i imagine i'd be more prone to whine about it, but if you think about it reasonably, it makes perfect sense

Bingo, the functionality of the 360 is reduced from what it once was. I don't remember Microsoft saying "oh, if you don't pay for a gold subscription, you can't download demos until a week after everyone else has" when the system launched. In fact, this seems to defeat the purpose of having a demo.

What's next? Gold members get game releases before everyone else? GTA IV won't run on your system until a week later, unless you're a gold member?

If the only thing you want with your online service is downloading demo's and playing games online (like me), PSN is the better online service since not paying is better than paying.

They took away the feature that allowed you to download a game when it actually comes out. Let me ask you something: as someone who clearly spends time on gaming message boards discussing the latest games and demos, of what value is a demo a week after it comes out? Do you think people are going to still be discussing the demo and sharing impressions one week from now? I'd think not.

And allow me to point out an obvious truth that yourelf as well as many others fail to grasp: Xbox Live Silver is not free. It's not free any more than the controller that came with my console, or the Wii Sports that comes bundled with a Wii. The cost of entry for XBL Silver is a fixed one, and it's included in the price you pay for a console. I don't appreciate having paid for something (the ability to download demos when they actually come out) and then having it taken away from me, and I'm baffled at how you refuse to understand that.

Perhaps one day when you perform hard work to earn your own money you'll appreciate just how valuable your money is.

Most people here don't pay their own way in life - they don't pay for *all* of their bills yet - housing, medical care, food, cell phone, car insurance, et cetera. Life is being paid for by someone else, in some way or another - whether it's student loans, federal grants, or mommy & daddy. And that's fine, but until the day you pay your entire way in life, you cannot say that "$50 isn't breaking my back".

Further, it's $50 you don't need to be paying, it's an artificial removal of service, to shaft you, because you've *already bought the system*. It is the definition of milkage. It's not "paying for a service", it's being charged $50 to use the driveway you bought with your house, and frankly that people take it so easily says to me that we need a change of terminology. We use "lemming" because lemmings follow each other off a cliff - maybe we should change that to "lobotomy patient" because people seem to have difficulty *thinking*.

And that's not aimed at any one particular person, or meant to insult anyone here directly - I'm simply asking you to take a moment and be honest with yourself. You don't have to post it here, you don't have to admit to "the internets" that you're wrong, but look at what Microsoft's doing and ask yourself "why does my butt hurt?". I think you know the answer.

Teufelhuhn

"Oh gee, this demo came out five days ago.... i guess people on the internet are done talking about it now. Oh well, i cant complain seeing as i'm not paying any money for this service."

That would be my approach.

Silver is free. You dont have to pay money to use it. Thus, it is free. It comes with the console at no additional cost. It's free. I dont know what you're on about there.

And once again, i dont know how many times this needs to be said, but what functionality has been taken away? Like i said; three weeks after the console launched microsoft changed the download system to give gold users priority after complaints that download took too long.

You still get to download it. You just have to wait until the traffic has died down. It's not even a fixed amount of time. So what, again, is the problem? If you couldn't download demos at all i'd understand. But having to wait to let the Gold members download it first when you aren't paying any money is something you simply cannot complain about.

Nothing was taken away from you. Popular demos have had this restriction for way over a year.

Of course I do, and I refuse to spend it on things other platforms offer for free.

if you hate XBL gold so much don't buy it. most of the people whining about it are cows who just want a piece of far fetched ownage.

I don't buy it, for the reason listed above.

Ok, so you could afford XBL, but you don't want it. So you spend your time arguing about it online?

I agree taking away free demos from silver account memebers is pretty cheap on MS part. There only reasoning was "to make gold membership more appealling to upgrade to" so essentially your "paying" to get demos earlier.

PSN just gives em out free of charge i dont see why MS cant do the same

Silver members had to wait for demos since about three weeks after launch. Where have you been?

Ninja-Vox

Umm, no. This was a rather recent change. Most of the people I hang with and play 360 with don't pay for LIVE, hence I'm pretty well aware of the sudden change that happened in December of 2007.

Of course you might ask for a link, and I'm happy to provide one:

Ah, so you're the person who decides what people can and can't complain about. I'll have to write that down somewhere for future reference.

You completely missed his point, which is that the the whole situation is screwed up because MS took away a feature from Silver users in order to make Gold users feel better about themselves. This is like buying a car, and then one day Toyota comes down to your garage and takes out the Air Conditioning so they can give it to people who bought the higher model.

Then much like the woman on Fox, you're arguing about something you dont know anything about. This was the case from no more than a month after the console shipped. Popular demos were open to be downloaded first by Gold members after complaints that it took too long to download due to high traffic.

Splinter Cell Double Agent was open to gold members first, before silver members. Thats the only example i'm aware of as it's the only demo i've tried to download without a gold account. That was at least a year ago. More, in fact.

EDIT: your own link even says this was a practice already in place last year. :| Clearly it has simply applied to more demos recently.

I already explained quite clearly how I have paid money for said service.

Let's try a simple excercise here: how many Xbox 360 demos can someone download if they never bought an Xbox 360?

You're not paying to get demos. I'm fairly sure it's a perk to give gold users more value for their money, otherwise, gold and silver are pretty much one in the same. The only thing your money gets you is the ability to play online. Thus, allowing gold users to download demos early, ahead of the masses.

I made a thread a while back actually, asking why bother paying for xbox live when you dont seem to get anything for your $50 over silver members for free. Priority downloads at least adds to the list, and you have no right to complain about it if you're not a member because you still get to download it and you aren't paying for anything.

I find the *facepalm* offensive from the man who wants to "SAVE SW IN 08!!!!"!"!"!"!"!"Z"!"

Why should a cow be whining about a demo that is on XBL, that is free for all PSN users? I mean doesn't it seem kinda silly that you whine about a service you don't even get.

I understand arguing about if silver users should have the content but what everyone is casually ignoring is that it is going to be availible to them in a matter of days. I mean if you own a silver membership, chances are online gaming and downloading demos is not a priority. I mean how many silver members do you know personally that are crying thier eyes out over this?

You have not paid money for said service. You paid for an xbox 360. They aren't obligated to provide a free version of their service. They have simply chosen to do so.

And keep your patronising "simple exercises" to yourself, thanks. It seems to me like you just want something for nothing. And despite the fact that you're still getting demo downloads, that isn't enough. You're still going to complain because you have to allow the paid members to download them first.

Life is so unfair.

Nope, your just paying for another thing that should be free. First P2P and now demos. Who ever heard of paying for demos.

Let's get something straight here: I don't care about other Silver members. You couldn't be further from the point with a comment like the one you just made. I care about myself, and about what I do and don't get as a Silver member.

man thats really funny.

by the time your done arguing about this, and whining about a silver membership you aren't using, the DMC4 demo will be availible to everyone. God forbid a company promote a service.

And as a silver member you get to download demos for free albeit, after the paid members, which is fair enough seeing as your service comes free of charge whereas theirs comes with a $50 price tag.

You cannot logically see that as an unjust situation. You still get all the free stuff, you just have to let the members download it first.

would not be suprised to see it cost money eventually. there is simply too big a market there, and XBL has proven people en masse will pay for it.

I'm not a gold member cause I don't care about multiplayer at all. So why I can't download demos again?

You can download demos... but you apparently can't read. You'll just have to wait a week.

so xbl silver is playing the waiting game now?

yet they still get more demos than psn... :|

and i wonder why. it couldnt be that 360 has been out a year before the ps3, which the wii took the leading crown from the 360 this gen. nah that couldnt be the reason. :)

um, i don't see the Wii getting any demos.
