[QUOTE="lundy86_4"]

[QUOTE="dc337"] Take out warcraft and the sims and pc gaming is looking pretty bleak. Crysis only sold 1.5 million as of June last year, which is low for a pc game that had been hyped for years. In comparison Gears of War 2 sold 2.1 million on day one alone.

I agree with the poster that pc gaming has declined in the past 5 years. The only reason this hasn't shown up in total revenue is because warcraft and casual games have propped up sales. The fact that pc gaming now depends on games like the sims and nancy drew for sales shows how much the bottom has fallen out.

The real evidence for its decline is in the lack of big-budget exclusives. The pc can no longer generate enough sales to support them. This is why so many games coming out for the pc this year are either small-budget or multiplat.

This is the list you might be looking for... I posted it earlier in the thread

Hmm a list of pc games. What is your point?

Did you forget what you were debating?

Just to give you an idea of the sheer amount of both multiplat and exclusive PC games. Stating that the "bottom has fallen out" is just a little odd. I don't know how Nancy Drew came into your post.

The bottom has fallen out as in the big-budget pc developers have either ditched the pc or have gone multiplat. Developers like iD, Lucas Arts, Crytek, Bethesda and Epic.

Nancy Drew came into my post because her and other casual games like The Sims have kept pc game sales afloat. Take out the casual stuff and Warcraft and pc gaming sales would look pretty bad.

Again Crysis only sold 1.5 million as of last June. A combined ps3/360 release can do 1.5 milliion easy. The market for pc games like Crysis has been in decline and developers have taken notice.

It's in decline, yet the industry was up to 11 billion in 2008, it didn't decline to 11 billion. They have numerous exclusives, Crysis is staying exclusive to PC, and there are numerous, numerous PC franchises still out there.

Yeah, yeah... Console exclusive have also seen there share of multiplates. Dead rising 2, anobdy?

Saying only PC are losing exclusive games is a joke.

And BTW....On the latest PC Gamer UK mag, July 2008

PC Gamer Magazine had an exclusive interview with Crytek, where Crytek states Crysis has sold 3 million through retails sales worldwide.

You need 2 consoles to beat pc sales? .Crysis was not as high budjet as GoW nor seen in ads in fact when Crysis went gold just after 3 months of release it already BEAT EA's sales expectations. Crysis was not heavily marketed that you could see it in everyday ads, it just goes to show how pc games can sell well at relatively low budjets and little to no marketing. And for general decline tell that to the 11BILLION$ in PC sales last year.

Development costs arse forceing both PC and Console devs away from exclusives. I wouldn't expect it to change. Infact it will probably be even more common next gen.

As of last June? If you're going to try to use that information as ownage, at the VERY LEAST, use up to date information. The game probably has sold twice that much by now.

I have never seen someone owned so badly in their own thread. What makes it even funnier is the TC keeps popping back in and getting owned lol.

This should be stickied as an example of what *not* to do on a internet forum :P

[QUOTE="imprezawrx500"]your problem is pc is still the single most popular and brings in the most money for any single system. Sure there is piracy but x360 has plenty of that as does ps2. Few console games are exclusive and through this gen more and more console only games have come to pc while few pc games have to to console by comparison. dc337

So hold on a minute, considering Wii/DS brought 90% of the increase last year, and its filled with casual trash, how is this any different? Why is Crysis the "end all" aswell? Plenty of games have outsold it in a much shorter time, hell 2 this year already, Empire and DoW2...

Zomg, 360 is dying C&C RA 3 sold 3 times more on PC!, Zomg Orange Box sold more than both 360/PS3 combined by twice as much, and L4D ... I guess 360 is dying

don't kid yourself. RA3 will obviously sell better on PC b/c its an RTS. And also there are more players on 360 playing COD4 than PC with piraters.

*looks at sales figures* Yeh of course it's dead, and the PC has quite a few exclusives it's just that they're not as heavily marketed as console exclusives as the console manufacturer dosn't support them and so console gamers don't tend to know about them

Does common sense include ignoring facts? People with "common sense" have been predicting PC gaming dying off since the 80's lol. Funny thing is, it's now stronger then it has ever been. I remember reading posts on newsgroups stating PC Gaming wouldn't make it out of the 90's

does it ring a bell that pc is the single largest gaming platform in terms of revenue in 2008? ( even if you only count retail pc makes 4.8 billion is still bigger than any single console)

does it also ring a bell that pc gaming has the most AAA and AA titles?

does it ring a bell that games like fallout 3 ,mirrors edge, mass effect, call of duty, grid and actually most of the multiplats look and play better on pc?

does it ring a bell that the biggest online community amd the biggest revenues from online is pc?

Finally does it ring a bell that pc has more exclusives in the forseable future from wii 360 and ps3?
