We don't care if the graphics get downgraded when we switch over to splitscreen mode. My friend comes over and sees that I have a PS3, so he says, "Ah, cool, you have a PS3. Let's play." Well, I load up Uncharted and I let him play first and watch. We switch after a couple minutes. Then we both realize that it's boring so we turn it off and do something else. Hmm, no wonder I can't convince him to buy a PS3. A month later, he mentions that he might buy the 360, saying that he wants to play stuff like Halo 3 (the closest that the PS3 has is Haze and Resistance 1) and Gears of War since they've got split-screen. If all I cared about was single player gaming or online gaming, I would have been a PC gamer. I first got into console gaming precisely because of the PS1 and a certain 64 bit console and flagship games like Twisted Metal and a certain James Bond game, and a certain kart game, and a certain four player fighter game featuring cartoony characters that showed me how much fun playing with friends beside you is. Those were the games that drew me into console gaming. I'm sure many became console gamers from those same games. And I'm sure many others became console gamers because of a certain local multiplayer space marine game that came out in 2001 and became played at pretty much every single party through out the country. Naughy Dog is missing the fact that most casual gamers buy games after playing them at a friends house and most people get into console gaming by playing local multiplayer games at parties when they're at a friends house. That's how practically everyone gets introduced to console gaming and gets hooking. Taking away the local multiplayer is a bad long term strategy. The gamers that don't care about local multiplayer at all become PC gamers. If all you care about is singleplayer and online, there is no reason not to simply game on the PC exclusively. I mean look at the smash hit success of a certain console featuring motion controls. Does anyone here think it would have succeed if it wasn't for it's flagship local multiplayer pack in game. Or it's smash hit local multiplayer kart racing game. Or it's local multiplayer four player fighing game. If those three games were single player and online only affairs, the console would have been such a smash hit. Does anyone think that console's upcoming local multiplayer four player platformer won't be the biggest selling game of this holiday season? Local multiplayer does matter, a lot. About an year and a half ago, I got rid of a competing console for the PS3 and I'm happy with everything else, except that the PS3 doesn't have many flagship games that feature splitscreen multiplayer or local multiplayer. The competing console had several flagship games that are built around local multiplayer and in my opinion, that one aspect was far better for it. It's always a blast to play with your friends when they're over at your house, and they're sitting next to you. I have friends over all the time, and we love to game. Back when I had the competing console, there were a number of local multiplayer games to choose from. Now it seems like there's only a scant few. The PS3 is the most single-player oriented console this generation. No wonder my brother wanted to sell it. He might as well play on the PC. Well, actually, he wants to buy the 360, saying that the fee for Live doesn't matter, but I've convinced him otherwise for now. In fact, my dad had bought the PS3 for us a year ago, and we thought that the social gaming that occured with our PS2 (before it broke) might continue with the PS3, but he spends most of his gaming time on the PC, and I play the PS3 once every two weeks or so. Now when I have friends over, we're stuck playing my consoles from last generation or even two generations ago. Classic games like Twisted Metal, or a certain shooter featuring James Bond or Joanna Dark, or Karts, or a certain fighting game that featured 4 player combat on screen at once, Timesplitters, or a game featuring a certain space marine and so many other games from both Sony and it's competitors are still a blast to play today because they feature local multiplayer. The sheer joy of shooting down your friends and talking smack to them when they're sitting right next to you at a party simply can't be substituted by online, I'm sorry. I mean when I first heard that Uncharted 2 features co-op and multiplayer and might feature split screen I was ecstatic, because I really wanted to enjoy the game at parties with friends. Then it was revealed that it's multiplayer modes are online only which feels like a great missed oppurtunity. It's such a massive shame that Uncharted 2 doesn't have split screen. I so so so badly want to play it co-op with my GF. 3 Kudos! Thanks!

I keep trying to edit the original message to add paragraphs in, but every time I do, it goes back to its original form. I'm sorry about that.

Personal request. Can you edit that to actually have paragraphs. o_o, it kinda gets hard to follow the more lines I get into it. What I've read so far, I agree. For example, we all know games like KZ3 and U2 will have so much better graphics, and I personally wouldn't mind that those graphics were turned down even slightly below their prequel to allow multiplayer. Though, I'm not sure exactly how much resources go where, so I can't gauge the practicality of running something split screen even with "dumbed down" graphics.

1. Use different browser for paragraphs. It's helped me.

2. Blog it.

3. Buy Uncharted for it's single player, not multiplayer. If you are going for the multiplayer, look elsewhere. It's just a bonus.

Why single out Uncharted 2? It has basically everything apart from that. Talk about nitpicky, maybe you should go and make a thread about the lack of split screen in ODST, Batman, Demon's Souls and many others.

Exactly, leave co-op to sports games and music games. Split-screen is fugly.

Local Multiplayer = LAN games as well.

We PC gamers care about Local multiplayer...but on a larger scale. Not just 1 or 2 people there with you...far far more.

I do agree with the split screen thing though. UC2 should have split screen. There's really no excuse.

I LOVE splitscreen on R2, it's a huge plus IMO, but the draw distance becomes HORRIBLE not to mention it chugs at times o_o.

you have to understand though that Uncharted 2 is really an immensely story driven game. It isn't like other FPSs where the story isn't as focused and co-op wouldn't be out of place at all. I do agree that split-screen multiplayer is one of the best things you can get. Then again, this game is going to be incredible single player and deep online mode. RPG mode = ****ing hillarious

Do what you want but know this, Uncharted 2 was never meant to have a multiplayer splitscreen or online. It was added but it was never really planed thouroghly. I wanted splitscreen too but it does not work that way. If your friends cant recognize these games then let him be. This game will be great and you will miss out. I wish there was more split screen as well but if you want splitscreen then get Borderlands and LBP.

This is not the game for multiplayer. If you haven't already, get Resistance 1 and 2. R1 allows you to play co-op through campaign and 4-player offline split-screen, and R2 lets you play split-screen online. There's also LBP, which lets you play with 3 others offline/online. And Motorstorm/Motorstorm: Pacific Rift with 4-player offline split-screen. If you don't like single-player games, don't get this one.

But apparently, you haven't done your research to know what games play with split-screen. I suggest you do that, because there ARE games on PS3 that do have that. Still, it's a dying breed. Hardly any games have it anymore. Oh yeah, I forgot there's also Wipeout HD with 2-player split-screen against 6 other CPUs, which is a blast to play. And if you're willing to wait for it, I think Modnation Racers will have split-screen as well.

Do you realize how badly the graphics would have do be downgraded right? I think that's one of the reasons split-screen is slowly leaving us, developers spend tons of time making the games look good and pushing the consoles, but then they don't have any more juice to process the game more than once.

So would I, but if the gamers don't ask for it, then the developers won't care for it.

I would gladly take split-screen even with a loss of graphics quality. That said, i wasn't expecting any form of multiplayer from Uncharted 2. I'm even surprised(okay not really, everyone's not crooks like capcom) that they're not charging extra for it. You should be mad at a game like Killzone for not offering that as it is more the type to offer that sort of gameplay. So yes, i'll still buy Uncharted 2 and i'm still excited for it, and No i didn't read your wall of text.

Yes, Gears of War 2 truly looks horrible in splitscreen. Oh wait, it doesn't. It's still awesome. So that excuse is nonsense. The lack of splitscreen in Uncharted 2 won't stop me from buying it of course. Loved the first part and I'm sure I will love the sequel even more. Can hardly wait. Still I would have enjoyed splitscreen co-op. Playing with somebody next to you is fun, plain and simple. I don't get why somebody would deny that. Unless that somebody has no soul or no real life friends. For me online will never be as enjoyable as local multiplayer. Come back, splitscreen! The world needs you.

Don't worry TC, I am firmly behind everything you said, except the title!

I wont miss Uncharted 2, but I refused to shell $60 for a 10 hour game. Split Screen Multiplayer is huge for me, and the greatest game this gen to have that is Halo. The sheer amount of content in that game is outstanding, and I'd do anything to play it.

Uncharted 2 was never supposed to have multiplayer. The fact that they put it in warrants a full price purchase for me.

As for split screen gaming, I don't like Resistance or Haze... the only split screen I play is COD4 or Wipeout HD unfortunately, none of those can go online like Halo 3.

Anyways, I hope you come around because Uncharted 2 is beastly. Sure, it doesn't have split screen online, but at least is has online to begin with.
