I know I've been saying this a lot, but anyone who truly believed Sony would win January (Febuary as well) is really naive. In March the sales might pick up, but honestly it wouldn't surprise me for them to stay the same or even dip to the lower 200k's during the summer. This fall/winter, the sales will be in Sony's favor, boasting 500-800K monthly. That's my analysis.ihatebugers
people swore to God that the only reason the PS3 wasn't selling like food sells to Ethopians was because of supply.

[QUOTE="TekkenMaster606"]I love it how people are going overboard about a subject (overall hardware sales) that really only matters towards the end of a platforms life cycle. The TurboGrafx 16 failed in America because about 2 years after it's launch, it just wasn't selling all that well. But from 1989-1991, you could get great games to play and the machine was readily available on the shelves during it's entire lifespan. I was even there at the NYC launch as a kid and it seemed pretty lackluster during that exclusive launch day weeks before the full US launch. Same thing with the 3DO, after the first 2 years, you just knew it was dead...

But 4 months in? You people have got to be kidding me.

The 3D0 was dead because... bum-bum-bum.. IT WAS TOO EXPENSIVE!

To say it was expensive is mild. When adjusted for inflation it would almost be $1,100 in today's dollars. It also had no established following. The mindset then wasn't like it was today and video games were still seen by many as toys for kids.

Yeah, really? For who? Because my friends had them, I had one. We'd sit around and compare the FZ1 to the FZ10 and the Sanyo unit...So the price argument only applies to specific sectors of the market. Not mine.

there is no doubt the 3D0 failed because of price. None.

I remember when Nintendo said that this was no market for online gaming!!!!

But they added online..........LMAO

Ericvon71
o_o That's sort of stupid, no offense. They meant AT THE TIME. Nintendo said there is no market for HD right now but they have announced that they will include HD capabilities in their next system. o_o I dunno. I don't think it's something like.. worthy of being a joke. You just don't understand the marketing, I think.

While the $699 was steep, it died because at that price, it didn't do anything extra. VCDs? Ha...Playstation 3 does high def movies, networking, and is an open source platform with all kinds of non-official possibilities...And not to mention you can get it $200 cheaper than the MSRP of the 3DO at launch.

Technically it's a $500 difference when you account for inflation. To compare the 3D0's price to the PS3 is sheer lunacy. But it's always good for a laugh when someone tries to.

Nintendo Wii is a toy. 360/PS3 is a multi-HD multimedia device.

by sexually attracted to yourself i mean you think you're hot and want to **** yourself in the ass. that's what being narcissist (sp?) entails, don't you know. i dont know why you used that word, but yeah.

You're confusing Narcissus (a figure from greek mythology who was literally sexually attracted to himself) with clinical narcissistic behavior which entails conceipt, vanity, over inflated view of one's opinion, egotism, and elitism.

I'm willing to bet the price argument applies to the majority of the gaming market, even a system with great first party support and hardware like the Neo-Geo couldn't sell to most sectors of the market at that price.

No. Most consumers never even looked past the pricetag to find out what it did or did not do. it didn't matter. all people saw was $700 for a game system, while all the others were $199 or thereabouts. it was doomed from the outset. I remember it all quite clearly. the graphical uptick of the games looked nice, but the price was outrageous for a game console then (and now).

"the reason you can find PS3s on shelves and not Wiis is because Sony is supplying more week-to-week than Nintendo. Sony is damed if they do (supply enough) and damned if they don't. Blah blah blah".

Then we get the January sales numbers and find out that Wii outsold PS3 almost 2:1 in January. That shows that Nintendo was supplying more, but STILL couldn't even come close to meeting demand. I've been trying to buy a Wii since launch and still haven't been able to get one because they still sell out immediately. On the weekend a guy at Futureshop told me that when they get a new shipment they're all gone within half an hour. As recently as a few weeks ago there were still instances of people lined up waiting for the store to open when new Wii shipments came in.

Yet with Sony and the PS3, they're selling FAR fewer consoles, and you can still walk into a store at 8pm and buy consoles that were shipped that morning. This is when Wiis are gone by noon.

There is no positive way to spin this cows. Stop trying to put some PR rhetoric on this. It's all bad for Sony and their fans.

Happy 14th b-day! Did you get any new games?

No! Im sure he got 'mature challenge experiences' or some stuffed shirt alternative name. I wonder what lemmings will think of to replace the word 'games'.

Actually, I turned 30 two days ago. At this age gaming is considered more of a hobby. Something to do when you don't have to mow the yard, bring work home, or listen to my wife rant and rave about things I dont' care about. I want the best experience possible. That means a 56" 1080p set, decent home theater setup, etc. If I want to make the best use of those things then a Wii simply doesn't do it justice. It's expensive but at this stage in my life I really don't care anymore.

I'll believe it when I see some pics of this nice 56' 1080p set up. Till then happy 14 b-day kiddo! Getting a 360 is an awesome b-day gift. I hope you get the most of it.

I've said it a million times, i'll say it again, just for you people who keep making 'shelf' threads. The PS3 is NOT worth getting right now.
