I think 500,000 PS3's sold is a very good launch (PS2 did worse)

"After a delay of more than four months, one million PlayStation 3 consoles went on sale from midnight across Europe, with over 200,000 available in the UK."http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/a44314/ps3-selling-faster-than-xbox-360-in-us.html

VG charts before the euro sale http://www.vgcharts.org/ngwars.php(note they did not update the sales for PS3 in there sig links) which was 2.08 million

now its at 2.67 million i think its a good launch,at least they acknowledged the PS3
unlike japan and Xbox360

EDIT:
http://www.vgcharts.org/euroyearly.php?year=2000 PS2 sold about 0.17 million in europe launch ,PS3 is doing better than PS2 did in Europe
PS3 doing better than PS2 in Europe
PS3=not a flop
or else you would be calling the PS2 a bigger flop

LOL, you think sony sold all their shipment? IF France is mirror imagine of what Europe is going to be like, YOU failed miserably since it only sold 5% of the shipment...that's right, ONLY 5% http://tech.monstersandcritics.com/news/article_1282028.php/PS3%92s_French_debut_a_flop_95__of_units_stay_on_shelves_

If true (which I;m suspicious of), a console that's like what... triple the cost of it's biggest competitor? Selling that many in one day is an achievement

No, selling only half of your stock on launch day in a region which Sony usually dominates is not a very good launch. In fact, given the circumstances, it's a mildly disappointing launch. Please stop trying to spin it. The quicker the die-hard Sony Fans start complaining, the quicker Sony realizes they have no body in their corner and they need to get their act together.

most launches dont even have a million units alloted in any region anymore so to sell that many units in a single day since they were WIDELY avaialble unlike both the Euro X360 and Wii launch is EXCELLENT....it looks bad only because it wasn't sold out. Consider the price and the availability at the moment and it seems PERFECTLY fine.

I thought cows were saying VG charts was unreliable especially after 360 was found to be selling more units when using VG charts. Now its ok to switch back to VG charts when cows stated the info was inaccurate?

I think you're letting the past skew your opinion. Yeah yeah, we all know that Sony was a monster last gen but that doesn't apply to the current situation. The PS3 is extremely expensive in Euroland, selling that many at all in one day ANYWHERE is surprisng.

When your supply exceeds demand on launch day with less then 1million units... then there is a problem... the sales of the PS3 in teh US are not good either, but at least they were able to sell more 1 million and before the supply out paced the demand.

well have you ever wondered why they NEVER have many units on launch? it's called marketing-if they can release few systems but make it look like many and then sell those few fast-you create the appearance of momentum. When was the last console that was this widely available at launch? I can tell you it has been along while...

you know how expensive it cost over there..and to be able to sell half of the ps3s..if the price was cheaper it will sell out in seconds.. i know sony is gettin tired of the media bein so negative towards them..it will motivate sony to work harder...Sony need the price drop..the 360 its goin to cost what 500 dollars now...when they release the new version of 360 next month..sony should really consider doin a price drop soon..and everyone will know the ps3 is the better deal to get even though it is from the start..

I think you're putting the carriage before the horse. The number of PS3s sold in Europe given the amount of units available and given their past success in Europe is disappointing. Among the major reasons for this disappointing turnout, is the absurd price of the system. When discussing the success of a product, the results come first not the various aspects that contributed to that result.

Yes it was, it launched with as many or more units then the PS3, the fact that it sold out doesn't mean that it there wasn't as large a supply at launch.

Every co.uk site that I go to still has PS3s in stock. If I wanted to I could get one right now, different story with the Wii though, which is still sold out here.

What happend to "We can sell 5 million with out any games?" There has got to be at least 1 million people in europe that would be willing to play the PS3 at any price... if there arn't then the future is grim for sony.

I've seen pictures from Germany, France, UK. Heard stories from Sweden so I think I can make a pretty good judgement.

Also those pictures where of the major distributors, not some random store.
