[QUOTE="DaddyDC650"][QUOTE="metalmonkey268"]How could VG Charts get that info so quickly? It literally launched hours ago.Squall_Griver

500,000 sold and it's still launch day in the Uk!

Don't be so stupid there weren't even 500,000 available in the uk

200,000 in UK and its already sold out still launch day 300,000 were sold some where else in europe still launch day

It's not sold out. Go to GAME, play.com, amazon, gameplay.com, gamestation.com (all the major online retailers) and they still have stock.

[QUOTE="Zerostatic0"]When discussing the success of a product, the results come first not the various aspects that contributed to that result.metalmonkey268

Maybe for you. But when I look at sales, I look at that circumstances surrounding the sales. I don't look at them in a vacuum.

Ok, so if Sega decides to take a dump in a box and they call it the new Sega Jupiter system and they make about 1 million of them, and they stock it in major stores. I'm sure it'll get at least a couple of hundred sales from die-hard Sega fans who don't know what's really in the box and the curious. So could I then write threads titled "I think 800 Sega Jupiters sold is a very good launch" and use the argument that that for being a pile of human feces Sega's new system launch was a success.

Websites have different stocks of units than physical stores. You cannot compare the two.

I'm calling TOTAL BS on this. There is no fracking way that you could get any kind of accurate sales numbers from across Europe in one day. Just stop it.

Why not? Xbox360 and Wii were sold out from online stores for the longest time during launch too.

technology is a wonderful thing. I'm not saying the numbers are true but every time you buy something from a retail store information gets sent to their headquarters about what was just sold.

 I see you want all out for this analogy.

If that were to happen, I'd then claim that "Seeing as the consumers didn't know what was in the box, it isn't surprising they sold that many"

The single fact that it's crap in a box doesn't matter if the consumers didn't know. That's the entire circumstances, and that's what I'd take into account.

That really doesn't have anything to do with what I am saying.

The dude said he could buy a PS3 from all those sites, and used that as evidence to prove that the physical stores were not sold out.

But seeing as the online retailers and the actual stores on the street don't have the same suppy, you can't use it as evidence.

Even with advances in technology, it would still take more than a day to collect the info on all PS3s sold in Europe. They didn't have info on the Wii and 360 launch this quick...

It's not like every store in europe is connected to one database. I'm sticking to calling this BS until something offical comes along.

Again, that doesn't any anything to do with that I was saying. I never said it sold out, I don't know if it has. I was simply saying that you can't use online availability as evidence against claims that PS3's sold out in stores.

they didn't sell anywhere close to that -- by all accounts the Euro launch was a failure. just give it a few days until the real analysis pops up.

personally I find it incredibly hard to believe EU sold 500,000 when only 100 people lined up at the largest retailer in the UK, and less than 200 at the Paris event, and even if you add in Australia apparently only 40-50 showed and only 10,000 were preordered.

dunno, i think its pretty pathetic personally.

"After a delay of more than four months, one million PlayStation 3 consoles went on sale from midnight across Europe, with over 200,000 available in the UK."http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/a44314/ps3-selling-faster-than-xbox-360-in-us.html

VG charts before the euro sale http://www.vgcharts.org/ngwars.php(note they did not update the sales for PS3 in there sig links) which was 2.08 million

now its at 2.67 million i think its a good launch,at least they acknowledged the PS3
unlike japan and Xbox360

EDIT:
http://www.vgcharts.org/euroyearly.php?year=2000 PS2 sold about 0.17 million in europe launch ,PS3 is doing better than PS2 did in Europe
PS3 doing better than PS2 in Europe
PS3=not a flop
or else you would be calling the PS2 a bigger flop

Until sony releases sales figures nothing is correct. I only follow official numbers and vg and all those other make believe sites don't count.

Well obviously we have to await even more news stories but I think its a pretty good prediction by vgcharts.  They took all the news stories from every country and then estimated how much were sold during the launch.

Sony said they would "ship" 6 million by the end of March, but that only means that PS3s are leaving their factories and going to their distribution centers. It does not mean "sold to retailers" which is how Microsoft defines it.

Actually only 50 people came to the Paris event. The other 150 people were just there to see the Blu-ray movie that was projected. 50 sold out of a 1000 available for the launch event isn't even slighty better than pathetic...

There is absolutely no way that the PS3 sold 500,000 units in Europe in a day.

wow the ps2 had supply problems when it 1st came out in europe thats why it could not sell more but the ps3's supply issues are solved now thats why there was 1milllion units for the launch. ( man they had 1million units for launch and only sold half? thats kinda sad.
