Although I agree, this gen Nintendo has a few gems, and a few gold in the ocean of poop, I honestly doubt they would cause the next video game crash.
All the consoles were doing bad, and there was nothing really that wowed people.
At least we still have games now a days that still surprise people.
Although another videogame crash is inevitable, I doubt it will be any time soon.
Its Teh end of gaming!!!! Damn Nintendo!!!!!!!11!!!!!:cry::cry:
And for the first time ever, a video game crash will occur because a video game system is selling great !!

There are two things that must occur in order for there to really be any crash.
1. Massive amounts of shovelware and bad games are actually being bought (Check)
2.Retailers carry far too much supply than demand (Maybe (dotted line))
3.The Industry must soly rely on one console company (Underline, do not have)
So no.
At my local Wal Mart I'm seeing the games really pile up in the cabinet, all of them especially PS3 games. They are pilling up high now and I'm wondering what the retailers plan on doing with all of them? There are two things that must occur in order for there to really be any crash.

Except that's not a check. Shovleware (with the exception of maybe 2-3 titles) is NOT selling. On any platform.

Same at the Wal-Mart Supercenter near where I live. Still, no problem with the video stores, game stores, or Superstore. I think the only problem in sight is perhaps Wal-Mart crashing.
The thing is, Atari made bad games to the point of view of the gamers at the time. And since there was no other market at the time, it failed.
But third-party Wii developers are making games aimed at people that love these games BECAUSE they aren't deep and complicated, so they will buy more of it.
It won't be a crash at all. It will be a huge boom for the industry.

Nintendo must die!!!1one
It IS different. The PS3 and 360 have their customers made up primarily of gamers. Nintendo has a VERY large portion of its customers the "new casual" segment they've reached out to. Many of these people are the very ones who didn't stick with gaming back after 83. While I don't tihnk Nintendo could cause a market wide crash, I do think there is a good chance of much of their own customers simply walking away from the console. You'll have a machine that sells 75 million with almost nobody actually using it. It's not a dire situation for them though, since they sell the machine at a profit they won't have lost money, and retailers will still have machines that actually sell software and a continuing growing gamer userbase. Things may sour for the Wii, but the industry will be just fine this time around, as all that will happen is those that weren't gamers who Nintendo attempted to make gamers will just go back to not being gamers.I didn't see anyone complaining when the PS1 and PS2 had tons of shovelware lining the shelves.Zhengi
Actually, there was plenty. Use the Internet Archives and look up these and the IGN boards. That was the main thing to complain about the PS2, bad graphics and shovelware.
Sound familiar?
Anyway, everybody moved on and remembered the PS2 for it's good games, not the other 80% of bad games. The same will be for the Wii.

Well, I kind of meant right now since everyone does remember the PS2 fondly for its good games :)
If Nintendo did went bankrupt and it's just PS3 and 360, they're just going to keep focusing on making better graphics and AI, and that will drive production costs way over the roof, further limiting innoavtion and killing off genres that aren't selling. Creativity will die off because the only games that will be approved are shooters, racing, and RPGs, and chances are, they'll all be the same old game last gen, only prettier and smarter AI.
In short, it's not shovelware that's going to kill video gaming, it's lack of innovation and creativity that will kill any industry, not instantly, but gradually and subtly.

Oh yeah, the PS2 still has games coming out.
Just take a look at the EBGames upcomming list for Wii games for the rest of the year. Its basically dozens of shovel ware titles, one after the other. It made me cry. I remember, back in the day, a similar situation with the videogame systems of that time; Atari 2600, Colecovision, etc. There was so many crap games on store shelfs that they could not sell them, not even at super discount prices. The shelves were over-flowing with all these horrible games. The game market crashed completely. It was a few years later when Nintendo intruduced the NES and the game market began to slowly come alive again. But now, Nintendo, with its Wii and DS, is just saturating the market with all this crap, and i fear history could repeat itself again. What do you think? Is Nintendo leading the way to a second video game crash?Videodogg
I seen this coming since last year. I picked up the wii 3 months before my ps3 and I played it for a month, it hasn't really been touched by me since. While my pc and ps3 get played everyday. I remeber going into the store and seeing all these crap kiddie games, and wondering where was the nintendo from my youth, When i was a kid, and games were targeted at kids back then we had games like Double Dragon, Contra, MArio bros, Mega Man, Wizards and Warriors, Ikari Warriors, Crystalis, Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, MT Punch out, Castlevania, etc. etc.. etc.. now they have hula wii, and nintendogs. All with cutsie kid baby faces. This crap wouldn't of sold back in 1985, why is it selling now? Parents have gotten really picky about the games they give there kids or something, as i remeber all those hardcore games nintendo put out on the nes. I remember the crash of 84' too and et and the land fill. I am 30 so I was around for that.
Nintendo used to have a seal of qauilty. Yes they abused it and didn't let publishers put out for other systems and get the seal, they also limited them to 5 games a year, they were forced to make a good game. Now these devs can put out crap, with little to no development costs and stupid parents will buy it for their 7 year olds. I can totally see the crash happening again, and it would be ironic considering nintendo saved gaming in the 80's.

Sadly, it's already declared dead.
The last video game crash was only in America, all other parts of the world remained mostly unchanged gaming wise during that time.
Besides, the shovelware is not selling well unless it had massive hype (Red Steel) or advertisments (Carnival Games).

How many of those new people gained were young people who've now grown up in a society where video games were a perfectly viable passtime? Contrast that to the Wii where you're getting tons of older people who haven't touched a video game in years getting the Wii(like my 65 year old parents....who will probably NEVER buy another game for the thing).[QUOTE="Zhengi"]I didn't see anyone complaining when the PS1 and PS2 had tons of shovelware lining the shelves.Willy105

Yeah, but the ps2 had 10-1 ratio of good to bad games, the wii has a ratio of 2-20 good to bad games, so there you go. When i go to gamestop and see the ps2 wall, all the games are mostly hardcore. Same with ps3, psp, pc, and 360, but on wii and ds its 90% kid games...maybe its because i am 30, but nintendo is not the nintendo it was when i was a kid, back then they focused on the hardcore.

I dont think thats true at all. PS1 came in on the coat tales of the great 16 bit era, Genesis and SNES. It was a huge leap going from 16 bit cartridges to a 32 bit cd based system, and it had great games right off the bat; fighters, shooters, action games, racing games..you name it. Not the kind of crap the Wii is getting; cheerleading games, Petz and Babiez games and a load of other awful crap...not to mention a step backwards in technology.

Well that number is just from what i seen on websites, storeshelves etc.. for the ps2, as i never owned a console that generation. I was strictly pc only during the ps2/gc/xbox years...The ps1 had a mega library of killer games, I know that for a fact , as I bought so many of them...man I miss the ps1! Anyway, from what i see on the store shelves the ps2 wall and nintendo walls are stark contrasts to each other.

Alot of that junk came out later in the ps1 life cycle and was just riding the popularity for a quick buck. But its way different with the Wii and you know it. Shovel ware is its primary source of games, its what the system is about...the good games are the rare expection and only seem a accident when it does happen. No, the point is...this crap is going to fill the shelves at retailers who will be swamped with this crap that doesnt sell, which is what happened in the '80's ...then crash.
I'm sorry but this is too ridiculous for me to not put in a serious comment.
The video game market is already booming, even before the Wii.
If anything, the Wii is helping and won't cause a video game crash.
