No, the point is...this crap is going to fill the shelves at retailers who will be swamped with this crap that doesnt sell, which is what happened in the '80's ...then crash.

because retailers can't refuse to stock non-selling items...

People seem simple-minded to believe that the quality of games will cause another video game crash. If there is a crash in the future, the cause will be more complicating that most on this forum will believe.
In fact, there are many factors that caused the 1983 video game crash in North America other than the quality of games. One is competition from the emerging PC market. Another is over-saturation of consoles every few years, instead of every four/five years. And other is the number of non-video game companies that created divisions simply to cash-in the video game craze of the early 1980s, those short-lived divisions that produced the poor-quality games most people blamed for the crash. The reasons for the crash are much more complicating that most here think.
As long as there is a strong interest in video games, smart business decisions, and growth in the industry, there will be no second video game crash.
Surely Nintendo will not cause the next video game crash. What it will cause is usher in a new video game age, an age with many promises, one that the "old guard" on System Wars are resisting futilely at this moment.

We won't see a videogame crash, but we won't see this either. I'd bet we'll see a minor crash, where all the new casual gamers get sick of the shovelware and quit, leaving the traditional gamers. Do you really think Carnival Games will sell million plus units five years from now? Nope, but I'm sure Mario and Zelda still will.
This blog I wrote awhile back should sum up my opinion on this.
Just Like Hip-Hop, Video Gaming is dead
Hiphops_Savior is right, what happened to music could eventually happen to gaming.
Music pretty much died after the 90's.
You rarely hear a great song on the radio now a days.
I was born in the 90's, but today's music can't even compare to the previous decades.
Almost every rap/hip hop song today is either about A) Sex B )Drugs C ) Money D) Combonation of the above or E) All of the above.
Most of the "rock" of today is pathetic, with it sounding more and more whiny as the years go by.
Maybe I just have a liking for Grunge, and just like it better than everything else. I can probably count on 2 hands how many decent songs have come out after 2000. Music is almost dead. Its only a plug away.

Careful not to go off-topic, I only used the reference to music as a starting point for my argument of what happend to music could happen to gaming, no matter how big it is.

Ooops, I didn't even realize.
Yeah, let me edit that.
the video game crash was caused by developers putting out faaaar too many copies of a game than will be bought
looks at mario kart wii, wii fit, wii itself. No i don't think Nintendo will cause it. Nintendo limits the amount of stuff sent at a time
Honestly...I have been gaming for years and years....And I feel that this gen has some "ok" games and has some NOT SO GOOD consoles.
Actually...I feel the 360 and PS3 are going to kill gaming if anything. With all the shooters and same ol same coming out as they had last gen. The gaming industry is litered with same ol sames and nothing really new or interesting.
At least NIN did something a little different. Took some chances. Are they making the most AAAA games? NO but I have enjoyed my Wii for what it is...A break in my shootingFEST. Its nice to chill out with some bowling and some tennis and Mario. Its great.
What has this gen taught me?......ONE...Dont ever buy launch consoles anylonger...TWO...Dont buy every single shooter that comes out cause they are all the same with new skins.....THREE...DONT pay for online gaming after this gen as I dont use it often enough anymore.."BORING".....FOUR...Rely on NIN to give us something new and different even if its not HD this and HD that....FIVE...eh...im done.

Its obvious they limit their shippings.
Otherwise, their Wii's would forever be in stock.
At my Target, theres a crowd that takes the Wii's before they put them on the shelf. They did away with the shelf, its always dead empty anyways.
[QUOTE="Willy105"][QUOTE="world69star69"][QUOTE="Willy105"][QUOTE="Zhengi"]I didn't see anyone complaining when the PS1 and PS2 had tons of shovelware lining the shelves.world69star69
Actually, there was plenty. Use the Internet Archives and look up these and the IGN boards. That was the main thing to complain about the PS2, bad graphics and shovelware.
Sound familiar?
Anyway, everybody moved on and remembered the PS2 for it's good games, not the other 80% of bad games. The same will be for the Wii.
Yeah, but the ps2 had 10-1 ratio of good to bad games, the wii has a ratio of 2-20 good to bad games, so there you go. When i go to gamestop and see the ps2 wall, all the games are mostly hardcore. Same with ps3, psp, pc, and 360, but on wii and ds its 90% kid games...maybe its because i am 30, but nintendo is not the nintendo it was when i was a kid, back then they focused on the hardcore.
10-1?
2-20?
Really?
Well that number is just from what i seen on websites, storeshelves etc.. for the ps2, as i never owned a console that generation. I was strictly pc only during the ps2/gc/xbox years...The ps1 had a mega library of killer games, I know that for a fact , as I bought so many of them...man I miss the ps1! Anyway, from what i see on the store shelves the ps2 wall and nintendo walls are stark contrasts to each other.
It seems to me that both the PS3 and the Wii had a ration of 1/3 of good games to bad games. There aren't enough games on both systems to make the ratio of 10-1 or 2-20 a reality.
But now, Nintendo, with its Wii and DS, is just saturating the market with all this crapVideodogg
Excuse me? Did you just try to say that the DS has a bad library?
That brings all your credibility to zero.

they have sold consoles faster than anybody in history... um, yeah. its obvious they are limiting their shippings.
you actually believe that?
