But guess what, they dont have something like this on the PS3. You know meeting someone on the PC wont guarantee that they will have a PS3. But meeting someone in Home will no doubt means they have one or a friend's PS3.
IDK, Virtual lives can get pretty addicting. HA.. look at this place.Shomb22
Yea that is true. GameFaqs or any message board is a good example of seeing people. But Home is WAY better because this is not virtual, Home is.

No, but I'im talking about the whole HOME network, it's the same as second life... However there are organizations within SecondLife that are dedicated for PS3 users. Not only that, you build a house, have an actual business, own an island, build whatever you want and customize your character 100%. Gauranteed it's userbase is larger then PS3's and has way more features.
Whats the point? it just seems like such a waste of time, why add all these steps to view, and meet up with friends? They just need to simplify it...Who cares about setting up your pad, and dressng up your character? I mean it sounds like a lame version of Sims...If I want to meet up with a friend on XBL I send him a chat, or message, or just invite him to the game...If I want to see what new content there is, I go to the media tab, and choose if I want to see tv shows, movies, games, or games content...Its very simple....I dont have to walk around my little Sim to the area, or wait at my pad to meet up with friends...
Plain and simple, its just a waste of time....Unless your playing it as a game...in which case its an Inferior version of the Sims online....
Im just kinda irked, as I won a PS3, and was pleasently suprised at the look, and feel of the system...So I was checking out some of the upcoming titles etc, and this and Metal gear is basically all I see people talking about...I dont like Metal gear, and I definitley wont like this...Little big planet sounds cool though...I do think that Killzone 2 looks awesome, although I never played the first...
Anyways, HOME appears to be lame.

i wouldn't put too much worry into it buddy. if you dont like it, dont worry about it. leave it alone. its not somethin you have to do. so play your game and stop whining publically.
You got a free PS3.
Suuurrrreee.
This is like complaining about Mii's or your XBOX live points.
Don't like it. Don't use it. Move on with your life.
Its FREE. Therefore nullifies it from being a terrible idea.Cedmln
 That is sig worthy. I could give several examples of stuff being free that are terrible ideas, and I think if you try you could as well. ;)
On topic, I will wait and hold judgment until it is released.
IMO second life was neither asked for nor is it needed. if it works how it says it will it will justy be an incumerance to thise users who don't want to use it at all. its yet another example of sonys half-assed attempt to rip of a popular concept and try and drag in some of those sims 'casuals' or the social rejects on second life. its the sixaxis all over again, "i know leys rip something off but do a bad job of it" mentality brought broken motion sensing im not sure it will work this time. thegoldenpooZing!!!! nailed it!! Back in April :P
People need to stop complaining about Home, the thing is free and Sony isn't forcing you to pay for the extra things they offer. You don't even have to play Home. How about we complain about the avatars and the Miis too because they don't offer anything significant either. Home is just a free perk that comes with your PS3, if you don't like it you don't have to reserve the storage on your hard drive for it.GeoffZakWe are not complaining about it being free, its about what it was supposed to be. It clearly did not live up to the hype...

I actually cant wait for it.
Your waiting is essentially over. Enjoy, bro.Hmmm....So I guess I was right about Home....Though I believe everyone would agree that it is lamer then orignally intended. Little Big Planet is pretty sweet though.
Yeah, I actually hoped on Gamespot to check out a review for Madden, and then noticed some more info on home and remebered this thread.
well most of the psn users dont use home at all, but i guess it is popular enough to generate some revenue for sony
HOME is an interactive advertisement that sells virtual clothing for real money, it's quite scary people actually use it quite frankly, says something about the user culture.
ya actually, it's usually pretty crowded..... it seems to have gotten a lot of people that only use their ps3 for blu-ray to become more cash cows for sony. which is fine by me lol, i'm not one of the ones being cheated and i'm getting better games cause of them lol.well most of the psn users dont use home at all, but i guess it is popular enough to generate some revenue for sony

To be fair though, most of the PS3 crowd considers the service to be a flop and, frankly, an embarrassment.HOME is an interactive advertisement that sells virtual clothing for real money, it's quite scary people actually use it quite frankly, says something about the user culture.
AnnoyedDragon
It is definitley worse then I had imagined it, though I knew it was going to be an area to charge people for ridiculous things. I would like to know if there is anyone here who uses it regularly, and hear there thoughts on it.(As I have not used it much, as their is no need for it.)
[QUOTE="rrjim1"]Home doesn't interest me in the slightest, but I'm sure little kids will love it.

wow that was mature:roll:.
haha he was serioussss :o......im 19 and i use home. i made quite alot of friends that i play games with. imo its very helpful.
i will say that i hope they actually do bring streaming movies and shows into home via the newly remodled movie theater which atm deff has the potentional to draw more people into the service, but it just needs more stuff to do in general

Right, and so is Xbox Live.
The whole 'Home vs. LIVE' is among the worst comparisons made on this board. Anyone who has played both for even a few minutes would know they they are nothing alike and they weren't meant to be anything alike.[QUOTE="asylumni"][QUOTE="AnnoyedDragon"]

Anyone who has played both for even a few minutes would know they they are nothing alike and they weren't meant to be anything alike. But in this instance, I thought it appropriate. It's rather absurd that AnnoyedDragon chose two aspects of home (advertisement and buying avatar clothing) and put it forth as the entirety of the service, something that could also be done with Live (since it does have ads and avatar dress-up options), hence the . Both offer much more.
(quote cut thanks to the flawless and amazing GS forum engine and its complete lack of 'HTML errors' )
But those aspects are much more prevalent in Home. Sony relies almost entirely on those advertisements and clothing/theme purchases to keep the service up (although I doubt they're really paying that much attention to it after its embarassingly underwhelming launch). I get what you are saying, believe me, but even in that sense of comparison the two are quite different.

But that is pretty much what HOME is about, getting consumers to interact with advertising, it's a corporate play ground where users are along for the ride.

Not true at all. Sure, there are some companies that view it as such, but from a user standpoint it offers much more. You can meet new people, listen to music, play several mini-games; it even allows a new company like nDreams to have a platform for an excellent ARG. There are also companies making spaces for their games to allow game launching, expand the game experience and test out new ideas. So what if Sony gains a revenue from people that want to play house or companies that want to put a poster up? That's not all there is to it.

I'm not sure why you consider all that a counter argument, because it's all in line with what I have said about it.
Junk food websites let you meet new people, listen to music, play mini flash games, watch videos etc. in order to attract and get people to interact in a brand sponsored environment. To immerse them in a positive experience associated with the product in hopes it stays in the back of their mind long enough to make a sale.
HOME let's people socialize and and have fun in an area surrounded by advertising, it lets people explore game themed areas in hopes that it encourages a purchase. When a friend showed me HOME I saw large screens looping game trailers, game themed microtransations, interactive game themed areas and game trailer theaters.
It's one giant advertisement with socializing tacked on to keep people in the game world.
Back in December(where this thread should've stayed) Home pretty much sucked from looking at what little it had to offer. Now at this point(where this thread shouldn't be) it's ok. It's still got a loooong way to go before it can become the thing PS3 users visit frequently but Sony is putting a lot of effort into Home with constant updates and adding new stuff to it. Still Home is not for everyone(me included) so it will appeal to some and it won't appeal to some so to say Home still sucks would be somewhat of an understatement from what it once was back in December. IMO Home went from suck to average, not good but not completely bad either.game_masta14
Thats like saying a turd that comes out of your Rear, sucks. Yet once you polish it, its ok. Home still sucks, to be honest I do not see it evolving much more at all. I think it is going to stay roughly the same, though it may offer exclusives for certain subscribers, though it will be chargning for its services...Damn blackberry keeps popping the wrong letters, so I am going to post this as is, and edit it later.
