Because it's his opinion. Might not match yours, but sadly, that's how it is. Deal with it.

I realize it's an opinion. but if we all went around just accepting each other's opinions this would be a very dull forum. fact is, Uncharted is not an awful game. Superman 64 is an awful game. ET is an awful game. To put UC in the same bracket is just an insult to the efforts of Naughty Dog. Sorry to offend the Opinion Police, but it's true.

Uncharted 1&2 are far from awful games...but at the same time...I wasnt blown away by them either.

I prefer the Ps1 Tomb Raider games when I want my Indiana Jones type Fix.

Sorry for coming off a bit harsh, some users here keep me on a short fuse :P Anyway, the point is, it often happens that a person ends up enjoying a game that is deemed 'awful' more than the majority- like I liked Too Human- or ends up hating a game that is supposed to be wonderful- like I didn't like Shadow of the Colossus. However, in both these cases, one does not give undue credit to or downplay the achievments of the developers. Like in spite of liking Too Human, I relaize it's me having peculiar tastes that enabled me to enjoy the game. Similarly, the TC might not have enjoyed UC, but that doesn't mean he means any insult to ND, he just doesn;t feel the game is for him.

that's fair. admittedly I'm a cheerleader for the Uncharted games. of course it comes down to tastes in the end. I'm not a big fan of MGS4, but I could never call it a terrible game. It's the same deal with UC for me.

I know. That's my point. Like I never got into Gears of War 2. Still can't call it a terrible game, not by any means. It's just that I never liked it. Speaking of Uncharted, I found the first one to be a well made and fun but unremarkable game. The second one, now that's a whole different story, the second one was awesome. I found its plot to be more contrived than the first one's though.

how anyone can call Uncharted awful or terrible is beyond me. Yes the sequel is the better in pretty much every respect, but the first is still an incredibly well-made game. Both are essentials of this gen, and I think the second one's a lot more enjoyable if you've played the original.

because it's repetitive linear garbage with poor controls, enemies that are bullet sponges and charcters that make the heavy rain uncanny valley chick look realistic

Uncharted was made way before Heavy Rain :| I think its safe to say you don't like the PS3.

He isn't saying UC copied Heavy Rain though. He's saying it makes Heavy Rain look good :P

Disagree the first one seemed un finished and boring IMO. Gamespot only gave it a 7.5 while U2 got a 9.5 big difference.

I also didn't enjoy Uncharted 1 as much as I thought I would but believe me, you should still give Uncharted 2 a try. I gaurantee you that it is 10x better.

I personally found UC1 better, but a lot of people like UC2 better, so maybe you should just rent it and try it.

people like the first uncharted for a few reasons:

the graphics - some would say the best looking shooter on consoles until gears 2the color - different from a lot of the other shooters coming out in 2007/2008 in that it actually had colorpersonality - it was pretty much the only shooter on the ps3 with personality, even if it was sort of a rip-off of tomb raider and indiana jones - that was still more original than if it had been another post-apocalyptic shooter

i actually bought the game day 1 back in 2007, but honestly only played it a couple times before i went back to COD4, Uncharted 2 is pretty much improved on the first one in every way although if you didn't like the concept of the story from the first game you probably won't like the concept for the story in the second game

88mphSlayer
These are actually some valid points. But It seems to ignore the entire PS2/Xbox/GC generation. What's in uncharted was done better in RE4 and even the Ratchet Games. The Platforming is trumped by the Prince of Persia games - it's nothing unique, and it doesn't even do what it's mimicking very well...

that's fair. admittedly I'm a cheerleader for the Uncharted games. of course it comes down to tastes in the end. I'm not a big fan of MGS4, but I could never call it a terrible game. It's the same deal with UC for me.

TheDrunkenLord
See, if someone called MGS4 an awful game, I could understand where they're coming from. It's definitely a niche title - I just happen to be in that niche. UC on the other hand... I wonder if the people that love it have really gamed before this generation.

You mean you can't love a game if it takes what others have done well and rolls it into a nice package? That's just ignorance. I love it and have games for the since the PS1 days, and have played games going back well before.

You're using the word Ignorance wrong, just like a lot of the ignorant people on the internet. I disagree that Uncharted rolled it into a nice package - the older games definitely did what Uncharted tries to do better. Now if you played older games, I wonder if you've played the right older games...

How is the word ignorant being used incorrectly? Ignorance can mean lacking awareness, knowledge or education. You're basically saying that if people love Uncharted, you wonder if they even played before this generation. That's showing a lack of understanding that people will prefer, play and enjoy what they want.

I'm not trying to dissuade the fact that games didn't do it better, and whilst Uncharted has its flaws, it took mechanics and made them into an enjoyable and fun game.

How about you stop wondering things? Peopleare gonna have different opinions from yourself, what people enjoy isn't easily quantifiable.

I agree with you TC, however I still went ahead and bought UC 2. It's better but still AA quality imo.

Midnightshade29

sure... you and tc write this in sys wars without an agenda? sure..... btw... the 300 AAA+ reviews for UC series disagrees with you.

Wow its an opinion not a complicated concept...seriously do we need to explain to you what an opinion is? UC2 is a great game imo, but a lot of the reason for such high reviews was the impressive graphics without them you would be looking at a game with an average score in the 84-91 area rather than the 90-96 area.

Misunderstanding and wonder is not quantified by the word "ignorant". Ignorance denotes a lack of knowledge, particularly regarding education. You're using it to describe feelings that someone cannot learn or gain a knowledge of. You said so yourself - What people enjoy isn't easily quantifiable.

Yeah, I enjoyed UC a bit more than UC2. The ice stages just didn't feel that atmospheric to me, and the transitions between areas were a bit too fast and too drastic at points.

I thought Uncharted 1 was only decent also... didn't really want to finish it. But Uncharted 2 was fantastic. I'd give it a 9 for sure.

I don't think it sucked, I thought it was a good but unremarkable game. But I can see what ninjahippo means: it had quite a few rough edges, and the gameplay never really did draw me in.

[QUOTE="edo-tensei"][QUOTE="Ninja-Hippo"]Uncharted 1 sucked if you ask me. Uncharted 2 is amazing though. Better in every way. charizard1605
expalin how it sucked.

I don't think it sucked, I thought it was a good but unremarkable game. But I can see what ninjahippo means: it had quite a few rough edges, and the gameplay never really did draw me in.

it did for me, again, how does it suck?

It doesn't. But you must understand, it's all very subjective. That it was a good game is indisputable. That it was not perfect and lacked layers of polish is also indisputable. This is fact. However, how a person reacts to said game is completely personal. Quite a few people seem to have disliked Uncharted. Then there are people like you who loved it. Me, personally, I found it to be a nice fun game, but nothing really extraordinary. In fact, and this is only my opinion, the only reason I think it got the attention it did was because it was the first decent game coming to the PS3 after a drought. But again, this is all opinion. In this situation, I'd say we're all right. :)

[QUOTE="edo-tensei"]

am I the only one on earth that actually enjoyed uc1 more than uc2?

Yeah, I enjoyed UC a bit more than UC2. The ice stages just didn't feel that atmospheric to me, and the transitions between areas were a bit too fast and too drastic at points.

yeah like one minute your in a train at a jungle then you sudently in a snowy mountain. The setting and pacing of the first game was vastly superiorand maybe because of the fact that it took place in one location(tropical island) while uc2 was all over the place. Uc2 wants you to have nonstop action that sometimes is hard to appreciate the enviroments.

And that's all there is to say about it. It's not that it's a bad game. Reviewers never pointed out any major flaw to it other that the lack of miltiplayer(which shouldn't really be that much of a consideration). The problem as you said was because it came after a drought and hype was high. It's the sw effect. Same thing is happening to splinter cell conviction and alan wake, it's not that they're bad games it's just people's rediculous expectations.

To me this game was there in originality, gameplay, graphics, sound, animations, presentation, length(for the type of game it is),characte, and charisma. What more do people want for a game not to suck?

I also quoted him especifically becausehe overhypes games like lost oddyssey and crackdown which both scored lower than uc1 and now proceeds to say it sucks, makes no sense to me.

I thought Uncharted 1 was only decent also... didn't really want to finish it. But Uncharted 2 was fantastic. I'd give it a 9 for sure.DragonfireXZ95
HAHAHA, This game is merely decent. How dare thou present it before me... Complete it? I refute it thus! XD Sorry but that's the impression I got from what you typed.

I hated Uncharted 1. I gave it a 7.5 and was being generous. I wouldn't play the game again. Uncharted 2 is muuuch better but still has flaws from the original that can make the SP frustrating.

Awful? No way, it was a great game. A lot of folks try to make it more than that, but the 8/10 suited it rather well. Anything more than an 8 and then there's an issue.

Okay, fair enough. :) It's something I've very often observed. Like look at Twilight Princess: by no means a bad game, but the backlash is icredible. MGS4? Same. GTA4? Same. There are some games that are victims of their own expectations. As for me, I wasn't expecting much from UC much anyway (since I didn't exactly dig any of ND's previous works), so I was pleasantly surprised. And then, of course, there was UC2... now THAT is a game I'd gladly pay $60+ to play.
