just got my income tax and I want to play backwards compatibility of Red Dead Redemption and Alan Wake which are my two favorite games of last generation. Which/ Where is the cheapest bundle? And do Back wards compatible 360 games get a boost in sharpness or 1080p or anything?

Who wouldn't ?

Can't play Rare Replay or Quantum Break on Playstation 4, so definitely go for an Xbone !

The cheapest bundle I found is one that offers a 1TB console and preferably several games included for 399.

  1. Red Dead Redemption isn't BC for Xbox One until further notice.
  2. Google for Xbox One cheapest bundles.
  3. Xbox One BC doesn't give 360 games a sharpness boost nor 1080p, few 360 games are experiencing framerate issues.

To further answer your question, Alan wake will become available once Alan Wake is out. Red Dead has been (accidentally) released on the Xbox store, but removed, so it's likely still in the works.

That will probably be the best route to go. I would definitely get the 1TB XB1 bundles at this point. You'll need it. I filled my 500GB within the first year on both my XB1 and PS4. Most great games will be out soon and a lot more B/C games.

Best buy has a great deal. You can get a $100 gift card on most Xbox One bundles.

@davillain-: actually I've beaten Alan Wake on PC years ago but thought the Xbox One might give 360 games a sharpness or 1080p upgrade so that's why I considered one. Ok guess I'll get it for sure when Red Dead is confirmed for backwards compatibility

Yeah, I figured at the start of this gen that a 500GB hard drive wouldn't be enough for an entire gen. Blu rays can go upwards of 50GB and I have a habit of filling up my PC hdds with games real quick.

Can I ask: what games do you own for Xbone and PS4 ?

BC games are actually downgraded on Xbox One. Halo Reach for example is unplayable.

@aigis: well red dead was my favorite last gen game and it was best on 360 but if performance has been worse on BC games then maybe I should just grab a 360 then since I'm not interested in any Xbox 1 games

@cv1989:

Games run fine on X1, some games are better some suffer minor FPS dips, games can be improved, sure last gen most multiplat games ran better on X360 so that mean the BC version run better than the PS3 versions

Red Dead will be awesome on X1

There is no upgrade for 360 games on an Xbox One via BC. Some of them they have managed to make worse. Use your windfall to buy a 360 and the two games you want to play. Use the rest to buy a PC.

When I play Rare Replay on day one, I haven't run into any problems playing Rare games on 360 since they are BC but beyond that, it's a hit or miss depending on the games your playing on.

As for RDR, I would rather take a remaster version more so, that game needs a total remastering if you ask me. Now that think about it, if Rockstar isn't on board bringing it to BC list, then there must be a remaster version on the horizon but one could hope.

BC is limited and a mixed bag on X1. Unless something in the future software lineup or ancillary feature set of the X1 interests you, the money is better served buying an X360 Slim (model S, if you can still get one).

Also consider the particular games you want to play and whether you are better served to invest in a gaming PC. There are a number of variables that drastically influence the wisdom of such a move, but a general rule of thumb is the more games you play, the greater the reason to play on PC. If you only play 5-10 games a year (and mainly large-scale releases), you're better off sticking with a console, used or new.

BTW, why is this in SW again and not the Xbox board?

From what I heard there wont be any remaster for the same reason there is no PC version, original code is lacking in comments and a nightmare to work with, making a remaster more costly than it'd be worth.

I'd buy an Xbox One from the Microsoft Store if you have one nearby, I'm really starting to hate retailers like GameStop, Best Buy, Toys R Us, Target, Walmart, and such.

Right now I'd put the money on a Quantum Break bundle for $350, I like the white design myself which was rare and only offered in the Sunset Overdrive bundle. It's $350 for the 500GB design, comes with the game Quantum Break, as well as Alan Wake. If you're gonna penny pinch, I'd go for the following option...

They also have a deal right now at Microsoft Store where you buy a select console bundle and get one free game and a $50 gift card on top of the bundle. So for that, I'd get the $350 "choose your own game bundle", which allows you to pick between getting your console with Gears of War, Forza Horizon 2, Rare Replay, or Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Rise of the Tomb Raider is the most obvious pick to get there. So, on top of that, you can get any game of choice, and by any I pretty much do mean that (unless it's like an over $60 enhanced or special edition or something). On top of that, you have a $50 gift card, so use that to buy even a third game, or a year of XBL Gold, whatever. So, and Xbox One and three games for $350, that's pretty good deal right there, that's the best bang for your buck right now.

You can take advantage of the second offer method I mentioned now, you'd have to wait until April for the Quantum Break bundle. See more here...

Despite what the haters say, being able to seamlessly play backwards compatible 360 games along with your current Xbox One titles is awesome.. Complete with all the perks of the new hardware like video/screenshot capture, twitch streaming, split screen multitasking, cross-platform party chat/multipayer, all the community features, and more..

All without having to drag out your old 360 whenever you have an itch to play an older title and/or without having multiple consoles taking up space under your television..

Alan Wake American Nightmare is already BC and yes the accidental appearance of Red Dead was answered with a statement by MS that many games are being tested for BC in order to smooth out possible issues. I also believe its coming since it was obviously being tested. Shop around with Amazon, ebay, google some bundles as was said. Enjoy your X1 when you get it. Its a fun console with some fun gaming experiences on it and remember the only reason you ever need to buy anything is you want it. It doesn't have to be justified or liked by some of the idiots here. Its your time and money you spend on your gaming so serve yourself.

Buy the cheapest Xbox One you could find and don't worry about the internal hard drive space. Because you're able to simply attach up to two 6TB external hard drive while keeping whatever internal hard drive you have. You could find cheap ass external hard drives easily. I have a 5TB external hard drive that I bought on sale for like $50 bucks and it works great.

Backward compatibility is a work in progress and more and more games continue to get added. If you're subscribed to Xbox Live Gold, you will get free Xbox 360 GwG games which are all playable on the Xbox One from now on. So you won't have to worry about hard drive space for your last gen console too anymore. Also you will get select last gen games for free from buying select current Xbox One games. Backward compatibility is such a beautiful thing. It should always be a standard in these gaming consoles. Games are games, the more you could get for free the better.

@cv1989: RDR isn't BC, there was a glitch that temporarily allowed unofficlal RDR BC, but it's been removed and use of the glitch can result in banning. Also, Rockstar (owner of RDR and GTA) is not supporting Xbone BC at this time. Anything can happen, but until Rockstar announces something, I wouldn't pine away and hope.

The Xbone BC emulation is hit or miss, depending on the game. Sometimes it's near 360 level, other games are borderline unplayable. They BC games are not boosted, they are emulated. It's as if you are playing on 360.

That said, I would recommend buying a 360 if last gen games are really a huge selling point to you. The Xbone BC is extremely limited and it's never going to be 100% ever. Many publishers aren't even supporting Xbone BC.

If you want to play Alan wake and Xbox one ex exclusives, buy a pc.

Then save some more money and buy a PS4 for true exclusives. There is simply no reason to purchase a bone anymore,it has no games.

Master race does it all so ... hmm ! 360 is the way to go and save money for something else if all he wants to play is RDR. Why to spend extra for a single game ?

I would ignore the advice to get a 360. Just get the Xbone and play the games you are interested in when they become backwards compatible. You will also get access to current-gen games that way. The Xbox 360 isn't even that much cheaper than the Xbox One.
