dragon age, not sure about the witcher being turn based but it's good. Never give a rpg player an action rpg. Never give an action rpg player a rpg.

I see turn based RGPs disapearing and I dont like at all. Not that I don't like other RPG styles, its just sometimes I think it is nice to be able to go as slow as I want when fighting a boss or large group of enemies.

Turn based always gave more strategy involved..

Which is making me wonder why do these companies keep making rts's for consoles when with gamepad they are subpar to the pc.. Yet they don't make a single turn based strategy game (aside formt he new civ)?... To me games like FF tactics were superb, and one can only imagine how good they would be in this gen with a new coat of grpahics, more depth, and more mechanics..

I like pause and play RPG's.

Mask Of The Betrayer was a much better game than Oblivion.

Turn based gameplay can't appeal to today's short attention span gamer. They want action, even if it degrades the RPG experience to naught.

I do, too. :( You should check out Valkyria Chronicles, TC. It's a more turnbased SRPG. Very good.

I do to. I don't know where developers got it into there heads that turn based RPGs need to evolve... No they don't, people like them. If there going to make a simplified action RPG go ahead but even it out a little. I don't want all my RPGs to be button mashers. Atleast theres some bloody thinking involved with turn based rather than your typical action rpg that a baby could pick up an play.

Agreed. There's much much more strategy involved in turn based boss fights than any other RPG genre.

The pause and play style used in D@D games works pretty well for both strategy and action. You aren't really forced to use it if you don't want to.

I'd definitely like to see Turnbased RPG's for years to come still. You just don't get the same depth from an action RPG...

For those who are saying "I don't" are you also saying that you don't want variety? That you want all the games to share the same gameplay? Because I DON'T

There needs to be more turn-based combat if you don't like it, you don't have to play it but there needs to be more for people like me.

I might be wrong about this, but from the screenshots ive seen, it looks like there is a map in the top left corner in battle, similar to that of FF XII. Guess that means no turn based or ATB style battle system :(

Im interested to see what Nomura decides to do with vs XIII though.

I don't agree.. Not all action-rpg's are the same. See the difference between Infinite Undiscovery and Tales of Vesperia. Besides, even Square enix themselves said that rpg's are evolving, and more and more people want action-oriented rpg's. Face it, turnbased is dying.

Btw, when a company makes a turnbased game it takes away the chance that it could have been action-oriented and therefor one less game. This may sound stupid but more turnbased games equals less action-oriented and for some that's not a good thing so variety isn't always the best (especially when people might not like turnbased or vice versa)

Well in RPGs you mean. Turn-based strategy is still very popular.

Well there are only two choices: variety or sameness. I don't want sameness and if that's what everyone else wants then maybe gaming isn't for me. ;)

Oh really? But not real-time of course which was around since 1980 predating any turn-based RPG. ;)

Options? D@D is still the Albert Einstein of RPG's compared to other RPG's. It's practically the groundwork for all other rpg's to emulate in some form or another. Even Neverwinter Nights 2, has more options than you can shake a stick at. Even the crafting system is fairly complicated.

I definitely enjoy turned based RPGs. It just gives you more time to think and plot out a strategy in taking out a boss. There should be a market for both types of RPGs, so I hope they don't become a dying breed.

They already have that. The Castlevania games on both the GBA and DS have RPG elements to them like leveling up and money to buy new weapons and such. Those games are indeed very fun and some of my favorites. I can't wait for the new Castlevania.

I just wish they would use the same formula to those games for a console version. It would make Konami so much money.
