I want you to PROVE me that using only GS scores is more logical. NOW (and POLL)

Let's see the pros and cons :

Gamespot :

Pros :
-the score doesn't change

Cons :
-It's like a dictature : only one opinion
-It's well know for giving low scores to good games (Zelda TP) and according to them, the best game ever made is Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3.
-The new .5 system is not precise enough

Gamerankings :

Pros :
-It's democratic : average of all the opinions
-You can't get a better way of knowing which game is better
-The score is very precise.

Cons :
-The score will change over time (but after a week it's pretty stable)

Now why are we using GS?

(And no I'm not an angry sheep. I don't plan to buy a Wii anytime soon)

Heres my arguement against GR.

GR is an unbalanced, broken system. sure, on face value, you can say "but teh collective opinionz!" true, but look deeper, and the system is tragically broken.

for one thing, the score fluctuates. How the hell are we supposed to get a idea of if a game is flop or not? let say halo 3. The game will probably get 100 or so reviews, lets say the first 5 reviews average it at about 88% the hates go crazy and claim ownage. A week later, the next 95 reviews bump the score up to like 94%. result? reverse ownage. Its unreliable. and what would you rather do? wait WEEKS for all of the reviews to trickle in ? No thats also a bad idea.

Further more, all games dont even get put to the same standard. One game getting 60 reviews and another getting over 100 is simply abroken. Its unfair. The game with 60 reviews could have a completely different score if it had the same amount of reviews as the other game.

Gamespot ensures that all the games are reviewed on the same system. and this is a gamespot forum. If you dont like their reviews, leave. Dont bring any trash like "but i like teh forums!" their forums are exactly like every other forum i've ever seen.

Fine, I like them because they are tough on games. The game must be really good if it gets AAA.

I agree completely. People here act like a game is terrible crap and would suck for everyone who might want to play it just because this single website rated it lower than 9.0. Gamerankings isn't perfect though because too many games just get averaged out with generic %80 range scores. But at least it's better than a single opinion.

And these are better forums. Who cares if it's on GS. This is system wars. We argue about world wide sales and crap. Why would the opinion on the games be limited to the single GS reviewer? I mean we might as well say "It only matters which systems the editors own" to determine which system is the sales "winner".

Unstable scores : I know. That's what I wrote in first post. But I don't really see anything bad with it, it just adds to the suspense.

99% of the hyped are big games that will get lots of reviews. As long as they get more than 20 reviews, it's alright

I don't know any other forums that has as much activity as this one. Not even close.I like teh forums. And yes GR kinda has the same system for all games, since they'll always get all reviews. And look at the top 10 or top 100 games. It makes WAY more sense than GS.

Other sites played MP3 too. And they all gave a higher score. MP3 shouldn't be considered a flop.

I've read every post.

I just think at the very least people would acknowledge that other sites might have given a better review the GS, i have caught GS so many times making mistakes in their reviews...remember Metroid Prime hunters anyone? They aren't perfect, GR isn't perfect either, but we should at least be able to say "hey, so and so game seems to have been really over rated here on GS, just look at the average on GR" BUT you'll get flamed to death for even mentioning anything outside of GS..pretty close-minded.

Ok. Let me explain. I understand reviews. I know, personally, that if I hype a game, I'm aiming at the GS score. But unfortunately, most people here don't realise this and they hype it without thinking about how GS will rate it. That's the problem.

I doubt anyone could persude TC that using GS is the way to go. JPOBS wrote a solid post with the issue of time and (at the time of this post) was ignored.

Another reason, is the issue of objectivity. There are some publications (I'm lookin at you Play magazine) that review early builds and let designers promises influence their reviews. Just look at Lair getting 9 out of 10 in Play. Others are just plain crazy, in my last copy of Maxim they rated Bioshock a3 outta 5. Early this year they gave Bullet Witch a 4 outta 5. There are some publications out there that just should not be trusted.

Let's say we start judging flops by Game Rankings. Well, the next time a game goes flop and the fanboys want to save face they say "Well, Game Rankings doesn't include THESE sites that rank my game better. It's all a conspiracy!"Before we know it we're having to factor in the rankings on games from Sony Defense Force, Xbox Fanboy, Big Bill's Big Game Hype-a-com.

We use Gamespot because it keeps it simple. The way we judge flops here is by Gamespot's ranking. It is a "line" that does not move and therefore can not be open to interpretation.

What's ironis here is that GS themselves USE GR! Go to nay review here and look at the other reviews section, they have listed the GR scores! Gamerankings is alos a CNet site...So if Gamespot uses GR why can't we?VideoGameGuy

Ok. Let me explain. I understand reviews. I know, personally, that if I hype a game, I'm aiming at the GS score. But unfortunately, most people here don't realise this and they hype it without thinking about how GS will rate it. That's the problem.

Game ratings, even IN ONE SITE doesn't mean that according to that site one game is better than the other. I'll give the examples I give out all the time, but people just dismiss me when I mention them. TM:B scored lower than TM:BO, and MC3DE scored lower than MC3DE:R. You tell me why, and the answer I'm looking for is not "different reviewer".
