I think averaging the top 5 review sources is a good idea. That way, there can be no claims of bias and the score won't change. Just use an average of Gamespot, IGN, 1UP, EGM, and GameInformer.SmashBrosLegend
Hmm, well the idea is still a debate hell hole because people will be in arms about how to elect and who not to. I think IGN would get it for sure...
Anyway, it wouldn't necessarily matter that one source uses higher scores more flimisly or one is a little stingier if we were to use that system because all games would be subject to the same averaging processes which would even things out.

It is an excellent idea to use 5 or so solid publications and I thought of this myself. Those are good choices. IMO, I would replace either Game Informer or EGM with the excellent Eurogamer. Probably GI, since EGM is basically three reviews in one, which is a good thing.
We are on gamespot so we use Gamespot Reviews as law. Trying to change what already iswritten in stone is pointless. The only ones trying to change the rules are the pathetic fanboys that can't accept their flops and move on. So instead they cry about how the rules need to be changed. It never happens and it never will so your "POLL" won't affect anything stop the bellaching and keep it moving.Zero-G_basic
Enough with this nonsense, jesus. Everyone can either reply only with "we're on GS so we use GS reviews, if you don't like it leave" which is just pathetically elitist and close-minded, or "the only ones trying to change things are stupid fanboys who can't accept their flops." What "flops" can't I accept? Any big PC or 360 games flop lately? All of these ad hominems and straw mans. You guys seriously can't debate worth anything.
Gamespot
Pros - it is a constant and there needs to be a constant. Gamespot is one of the best review sites if not the best.
Con - none
Gamerankings
Pros- none
Cons - always changes , different amount of reviews for each game (inconsistent) , different reviews (inconsistent) , more than half of the sources are garbage sites that we would never use.
its better to look at the big picture... look at all the scores around the board (such as gamerankings for example or a list of many scores you collected personally). its better to see what EVERYONE has to say about a game... it just makes more sense. that would then give us a more accurate idea of what WE will think about the game when WE play/beat it.
also it's not like we're ignoring GS scores completely. i'm just saying we have to look at the big picture. yes i know "it is law engraved in stone" that since we're on GS forum, we (for some reason)have to go by their review alone. but i'm sayng that's wrong and we should change that because it doesnt make sense.
yes, that would mean PDZ, WarioWare Wii, zelda:tp, and Resistance scores are too high/low here at GS.
a flop would be a game that not only flopped here at GS but everywhere accross the board (like Lair and BlueDragon, THOSE are genuine/real flops)
i'm glad someone made a thread about this :) (thanks TC) and i hope this view becomes more popular
''Because we're on GS'' isn't a proof
''Because there are biasedreviews in Gamerankings'' isn't important because there are positive and negative biased reviews.Let's see the pros and cons :
Gamespot :
Pros :
-the score doesn't change
Cons :
-It's like a dictature : only one opinion
-It's well know for giving low scores to good games (Zelda TP) and according to them, the best game ever made is Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3.
-The new .5 system is not precise enoughGamerankings :
Pros :
-It's democratic : average of all the opinions
-You can't get a better way of knowing which game is better
-The score is very precise.Cons :
-The score will change over time (but after a week it's pretty stable)Now why are we using GS?
(And no I'm not an angry sheep. I don't plan to buy a Wii anytime soon)
Timesplitter14
this has to be damage control.
this is a gs website, why the heck would we use any other sites reviews
[QUOTE="Timesplitter14"][QUOTE="Ragnarok1051"][QUOTE="Timesplitter14"]Gamerankings takes the lead (poll)
AND STOP USING ''BECAUSE WE ARE ON GS!!!''. I TOLD YOU I DIDN'T WANT TO HEAR IT. I WANT YOU TO TELL ME WHY IT'S BETTER

Dude that should be enough, if you don't like it then go to another forum. If you don't want to leave, then don't complain about how things are run here.
It's funny how NO ONE gave me a real reason why GS is better
It's funny how you ignorned JPOBS post, and also the "this is gamespot so their scrore counts" is a good argument so stop trying to act like just because you said don't say that, that is should become invalid.
No I replied to everything he said in his post. Try to read next time.
Well it looks like GR wins...Timesplitter14Wins a POLL but the Gamespot rules are still intact so nice job winning nothing
This is gamespot. We use gamespot.
(I don't care if you didn't want to hear that answer)
If you want to make purchasing decisions then sure, use gamerankings, but for systemwars.. gamespot is the only way to go.
Not to mention any site that factors things like Play magazine into their averages is.. worse then gamespot.
Heres my arguement against GR.
GR is an unbalanced, broken system. sure, on face value, you can say "but teh collective opinionz!" true, but look deeper, and the system is tragically broken.
for one thing, the score fluctuates. How the hell are we supposed to get a idea of if a game is flop or not? let say halo 3. The game will probably get 100 or so reviews, lets say the first 5 reviews average it at about 88% the hates go crazy and claim ownage. A week later, the next 95 reviews bump the score up to like 94%. result? reverse ownage. Its unreliable. and what would you rather do? wait WEEKS for all of the reviews to trickle in ? No thats also a bad idea.
Further more, all games dont even get put to the same standard. One game getting 60 reviews and another getting over 100 is simply abroken. Its unfair. The game with 60 reviews could have a completely different score if it had the same amount of reviews as the other game.
Gamespot ensures that all the games are reviewed on the same system. and this is a gamespot forum. If you dont like their reviews, leave. Dont bring any trash like "but i like teh forums!" their forums are exactly like every other forum i've ever seen.
what im saying is, GR is not any better of a system to use than gs is. and stop with this whole "gs likes to underate games to look harsh". Its not a conspiracy. they usually give just reason for their reviews. i hate it when people get so worked up because a game missed the score they hope dit would get. the funny thing is, when you people ***** about games like Metroid prime 3, you havent even played it yet, gs has
JPOBS
While your correct about GR, your completely wrong about GS. GS does NOT review all games by the same standard. Like the poster said, apparently OOT and THP3 are the best games ever made to them...Cmon. THPS3 a 10? Obviously Bucky Lasek must have reviewed the game. Anyway to show you how GS DOESNT review games fairly ill give you another score. Why is Wario Ware the best rated game on the Wii? ALso Why is PDzero AAA?
Yeah...I personally go by IGN because they dont have PS3 fanboys review Halo, they dont have Xbox nerds review Zelda, and they shure as heck dont have raving sheep review lair. Its a fairer system than what GS does. The only person who needs to benefit from the score is the consumer. ITS for the consumer. So when you review a game you have to think in terms of the demographic of the actual platform. IGN does this UNLIKE GS. But unfortunately IGN boards suck hard.
Gamerankings obviously makes sense.....anyone that says that it is not the best answer to providing the truest interpretation of scores has no idea what they're talking about.
The overly positive and overly negative reviews cancel themselves out and you end up getting standard normally distributed reviews.
