Your kidding right?
Fair enough, but even if you work at Mcdonalds... $50 a year is really not that much.instantdeath999

So don't. Just have somebody get you a 1 year Xbox Live Gold card for your birthday or Christmas every year. Then you won't have to pay for anything.
Actually, that's a great idea. w00t to you, sir. :DIt doesn't cost much and is worth getting, but it's still a rip off because it's free everywhere else.
But seriously XBL costs alone make PS3 is a way better value as a console. $350+$50 XBL = $400. Same price from the beginning, but PS3 comes with Blu-ray and Wifi. And then there's more XBL fees over time...

"Value" is all relative. It really depends on what games the consumer desires. I think the Xbox 360, for my own personal needs, is a much better value than the PS3 because it has games on it that I really want to play. If I had a PS3 right now I would be pretty bored with its software library at the moment.
[QUOTE="sexy_chimp"]I refuse to pay it off of principles (If I owned a 360) It's just a rip off in every way possible.thinicer
So is cable TV and gasoline. Do you pay for those?
Yeah, because people don't give it away for free.
Is 50 too much? No. But is the 50 justifiable for what you're getting in return? HELL NOblitzinger123FTW. I've played the XBL trials and it's a total pain to find a good game with good players that you can stay connected to. Definitely not worth $50. I'll stick to playing with real people (that I can punch:)) on split screen.

You take the bad with the good I guess! The Playstation 3 doesn't offer the same games as the Xbox 360 does, unfortunately.
I would buy a PS3 if it had an online that worked. I don't want a game that runs half the frame rates as the 360 counterpart that doesn't have online included like the 360 does. How many titles already out there had online for the 360 version, but not the PS3 version. That alone, makes the $50 worth every penny, nevermind the vastly superior online service called XBL.
I would buy a Wii if it was the year 2001, when the hardware of the Wii would be only slightlybetter than the original Xbox or PS2.
