"The war between the GDF and Strogg will soon be igniting on next-generation consoles as id Software and Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) today confirmed that Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars™, the team-based first person action title, and already one of the most anticipated new properties of 2007 is coming to next-gen platforms. In this epic multiplayer-focused game, players can choose to defend humanity as a part of the Global Defense Force (GDF) or destroy it as a merciless Strogg alien invader. Under the executive production of id Software, Nerve Software is developing Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, while Z-Axis is the developer for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.

“We're pleased to be working with Nerve and Z-Axis to bring the highly-anticipated gameplay from Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars to the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 system,” said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software.

Winner of more than 15 awards in 2006 and already selected as one of the most anticipated new titles in 2007 by more than eight publications, Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars is being developed for the Windows PC by Splash Damage – the Nerve Software and Z-Axis console versions will also feature strategic team play, persistent character promotions and online stats tracking. Players choose to battle as one of five unique forbidden the futuristic Strogg invasion force, each outfitted with specialist weapons and combat hardware. In this adrenaline pumping fight for survival, warring forces utilize a variety of different vehicles, deployable structures, and defense systems including quad-bikes, tanks, and alien walkers for epic ground assaults; or helicopters and anti-gravity ships to unleash airborne attacks. Throughout each battle, teams establish bases, deploy defense structures, artillery, radar, and advanced forward-command systems into enemy territory while constructing and demolishing obstacles to speed progress and gain a tactical advantage over the opponent. Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars features 16-player battles on the console systems, delivering the ultimate team-and objective-based multiplayer experience.

Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars has not yet been rated by the ESRB."

Fantastic news! I've been looking forward to this game and have been hoping for a Live 360 version, maybe even PC vs. 360 play a la Shadow Run and Team Fortress 2. This means I may not even need to bother upgrading my PC...

Good news for console owners! I'll still be playing this on PC, but I hope this one becomes a candidate for cross-platform gaming.

I thought I was posting this in the PS3 forum and that I added the ...... to piss them off. Oh well, still very good news I hope i can use a Mouse and KB for this on the PS3 without modding it to get it to work.

Edit: will it be as bad as Quake 4 on the 360 or was that done by a diffrent team?

Good news for gamers. I'm still gonna run with the PC version for mods, m/kb, and the superior power and all. I'd grab it for another system though if I didn't have a PC but this is a good game most likely. To bad when I say PC I mean moms PC. My laptop is pretty weak.

I hope it's jus as good as Doom 3, rather than some watered-down port. Nice news, for now. :D

This sucks, I was really hoping for this game to be PC only (I own a 360). I'll still be playing it on the PC, its just another one of those games, along with UT2007, that don't belong on consoles. Luckily the PC version will be the best, with better game play and mod support (which is a big deal in Enemy Territory RTCW).

If there's a mode that allows PC vs 360 players the PC players will win every time.

Perhaps, but aim assist or KB+M control (very probably in a future 360 update) is a good compensation.

If you're going to play it on the PC anyway, then why do you care if it's going to be on consoles?

Not necessarily. They have been doing beta tests with Shadowrun on PC and 360, and the console players we're owning the PC players. The devs have to put a handicap for people who use controllers, so they compensate by making the aim reticule larger, throw in a bit of autoaim as well probably. If it was a 1:1 ratio between KB/M and controllers, it would be no fun.

This is the same game that is supposed to be making use of that MegaTexture technology, isn't it?

I'd like to see how they can fit such huge textures into such a tiny space as the consoles...if they use the technique at all on the consoles.

So what happens if something like what MS is doing with Shadowrun actually works and controllers are able to play competitively against KB/M users?

Anyone using a controller will probably be banned for using an aimbot...that's all that autoaim is.

If they are supporting Live Anywhere, people will have no choice but use a controller on the consoles, so what you're saying makes no sense.

Not if it's coded into the game itself--so as to level the playing field.

Wrong aim assist simply makes it easier to aim and hold the reticle over the target. an aimbot makes the reticle stay on target no matter what.

Dammit. One less reason to upgrade. Seems everything except possibly Crysis and Spore ends up on the 360. And Stalker, The Crossing and Left 4 Dead. My current PC can handle Source games fairly well though, as well as the originally DX8 game Stalker I'd assume. Also Left 4 Dead will be released for 360 later. Guess I should be happy. Upgrade postponed till Q4.

Cows should be wary though, their version is ported by a team previously focused on extreme sports games of varying quality, up until they developed X-Men: The Official Game. Which is also their most recent game.

That was with both sides playing the game for the first time, and with the controller users having advantages such as aim-assist.

Most FPS players know every game feels different with a mouse and takes a good amount of play time to get used to. Controllers are a lot more forgiving with sensitivity and moving between games generally..since you don't need to be dead-on accurate with most games because of aim-assist. Even with such advantages given to the controller players, the majority of KB/M users will surpass the controller players by far. You simply can't beat the speed and precision of a mouse in the right hands unless you're using full auto-aim on a controller, which removes all degree of skill in the game. Even with full auto-aim you still can't turn as fast as you can with a mouse.

I really want to see a cross-platform multiplayer game in the future with a large amount of handicaps given to controller users so you can see how true the above is. The best KB/M users will still dominate the best controller users.

Haha I didn't even see that..

Quake Wars will support 32 players at launch for PC..but the engine itself supports 64+ players, so you'll see larger maps created by users after launch.

I guess that means some larger maps will be missing in the console version?

good news, I expected that. I'm actually surprised about The PS3 annoucement. Carmack never seemed to thrilled with the PS3, but I guess since someone else is developing it, it really doesn't matter.

16 player battles?
No mods?
Xbox Live community?
Controller?
Dumbed down gameplay?
Dumbed down graphics?

No. Thanks. I will be enjoying this game the way it was meant to be enjoyed, on the PC.

Indeed. I'd rather play the game at low settings and without surround sound. Only 16 players is a dealbreaker.

Most PC gamers could care less, actually. This will just be yet another watered down console port. It's not like they're missing out on anything.

You will find out, that the majority of PC gamers doesn't care about exclusives. But for the record, every id software game to date was released on consoles, so it's no news, even if it isn't developed in-house.
