What should of been PC exclusives: UNREAL TOURNAMENT, Quake Wars.
Multiplatform explained:

Source: http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/46079

Across two separate lectures at this week's Game Developers Conference, id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead and Epic Games president Michael Capps both admitted that piracy of PC games caused their companies to pursue developing beyond the PC platform. "Piracy has pushed id as being multiplatform," stated Hollenshead, whose company contracted Z-Axis to handle the PlayStation 3 version and Nerve Software the Xbox 360 edition of Splash Damage's forthcoming Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (PC).

Comments made by Epic's Capps carried a similar tone. "PC gaming is really falling apart," he revealed. "It killed us to make Unreal Tournament 3 cross-platform, but Epic had to do it," adding "the market that would buy a $600 video card knows how Bittorrent works." Epic is currently developing Unreal Tournament 3 for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in-house.

Meanwhile, Firaxis designer and programmer Soren Johnson remained confident in PC development. He suggested that "game design on the PC is going to bend toward persistence," noting Blizzard's World of Warcraft is "successful because you can't pirate WoW. You cannot pirate an MMO. Period."

Who/what did they blaim? High video card price, Bittorrent users!

They are extremely overexaggerating. Besides, their games are the LEAST pirated because they use freaking Starforce and CDKEYS that require activation. Even a pro like me would find it not worth while.

Funny, since Quake and UT are gmaes people ONLY play online. Epic/id, stop with the BS, you want more sales, make an innovative idea. Also, is the quote where Id/Epic say that they are PC companies that were forced to throw something on consoles to get money?

Its better than ****ing about piracy that isn't even happening to your games because of CD Keys requiring activation, and they are primarily online only games in the first place, so its redundant to even pirate them.

Those things mess up your PC so why do legal consumers have to pay for what pirates do.

Sorry for the typo, I meant if you didnt get the chance to play UT:04 because of the CDKey activation or something like that then your really missing out on one of the best PC shooters IMO.

Well I agree 100% I would suggest these guys to wake up and understand how easy its to pirate on consoles...
Piracy on PC:
1. Venture in warez vira ridden sites.
2. Get a virus/Format PC
3. Venture in warez vira ridden sites with a bit of luck not getting infected
4. Download game risking ending up in jail.
5. Again repeat steps 1-3 to find a no cd crack
6. A patch releases so wait for a No CD crack to be released
7. In case of starforce risk breaking down your entire machine
8. Finally able to run a buggy non patched game.
9. NO Multiplayer because that requires an original game

Piracy on consoles:
1. Flash your DVD drive at your Xbox360 or have it flshed for €50
2. Rent a game
3. Copy the game
4. Take the rented game back
5. Enjoy your €5 game.

from what I hear its difficult as hell, since they use authorization for most games, and PB goes crazy when something is wrong.

I use Airopeek and NetStumbler. I'm pretty safe. But I digress. It is extermely easy to pirate console games. I think I'll pirate U3 console just to smite them.

Starforce would make it worse. Have you read all the controversy about Starforce? There have been numerous reports of it completely rendering optical drives useless and causing the user to format his or her computer. This is the reason why Ubisoft ditched it in favor of SecuROM.

You gotta take hardline measures against hackers. Otherwise they'll just use Daemon. Its not worth disconecting your harddrive and all this for a pirated game.

I think that they are just complaining about this to cover up their main motive for making their games on consoles... money.

Actually its the best defense against hackers because it requires physical labor to get past. Most hackers don't like physical labor.

This article is old and more than a little bit ridiculous.  They just don't want to upset the PC community that's given them unending support for the past 10 years by telling them "yeah, we know you guys have stuck with us and bought all our games and created amazing online and mod communities, but we're gonna go ahead and start focusing more on consoles where we can make more money by charging for Horse Armor".

Seriously, piracy never was and never will be a problem for them.  You can't pirate if you wanna play online, and most people don't know how to do it anyway.  I mean seriously, they say "anyone who owns a $600 video card knows how to use BitTorrent" but what percentage of their customers actually owns a  $600 video card?  1%?  2%?  It's ridiculous.

They just wanna make more money, end of story.  And I don't have a problem with that, I just wish they didn't come up with BS excuses like this.

No, no its not. I could do it in five minutes. Besides, I could always just social engineer me a copy of any console game I wanted. Social engineering is another form of hacking after all.

No but you try pirating a game to play online.

from what I hear its difficult as hell, since they use authorization for most games, and PB goes crazy when something is wrong.

PB goes crazy if your not an admin on your pc , but yea its near impossible for games that require steam, and games like WC3, BF2, and pretty much every PC game that checks your cd key. Only game i can think of that doesnt do that is the NFS games.

Epic and id use Starforce?

They are about to adopt it so I heard.

Eveyone knows Starforce is the worst program protection,in the world.

Actually its the best defense against hackers because it requires physical labor to get past. Most hackers don't like physical labor.

Lmao,if thats what you really think then you are as blind as a bat.Starforce is really hackers heaven.

well, if they made better fresher games they wouldn't have that problem. Somehow Valve is doing wonderfuly, the same with BF2AdrianWerner
because Valve is smart, and uses steam to authenticate single player. which makes Valve games virtually impossible to Pirate. BF2, is online focused, so a pirated version will always suck.

The only time that I will have a problem with this is if they start making more of their games for consoles only.

People need to realize, pirates dont pirate games that are worth money and they want to play. Ill be honest, I pirated games, none of those games i pirated, did I play longer then 5 hours, and i would have NEVER bought them.

That would not be a good idea.

Its better than ****ing about piracy that isn't even happening to your games because of CD Keys requiring activation, and they are primarily online only games in the first place, so its redundant to even pirate them.

And its also not right to inflict that kind of garbage on people who pay 50 bucks for their game, and don't even know what copy-protection is.  I would never buy anything that has the kind of invasive crap that StarFORCE uses, it's the equivalent of them sending some goon over to my house to sit in my room and make sure I don't pirate anything.  Except the goon sometimes accidentally smashes up your optical drive.

Steam is really hard to pirate it, and not worth it to play a 20$ game. People that pirate Half life, are doing it just to do it.

Dude it's far easier to pirate on the PC than on a console.

No, no its not. I could do it in five minutes. Besides, I could always just social engineer me a copy of any console game I wanted. Social engineering is another form of hacking after all.

it's more like this for pirating pc games. 1. go to torrent website. 2. search for game 3. download it using torrent program. simple as can be and it's not the 360 where you could render it completely useless because you screwed up wiring in the chip.

No its go to turrent site, hope the turrent your dling is ligit, spend 3 days dling it, try instailing it with daemon tools, hope it works, then get a cd key/crack, hope they work, and then not be able to play it online. For the PS2, put a mod chip in there, which is pretty simple, and someone can do it for you for cheap, dl the game, hope its legit, burn it to a dvd, and play.

PB deffinetly hasnt died out... its still in all the major PC games out. its not bad though, its very efficient, much more so then it used to be. They figured out a way, for admins to take screenshots of every players screen, and then check them for visible hacks.
