If 360 were to die...

You ever notice that PC gets all the best games that come out on 360 anyway, if the 360 were to die(which I can't see happening in the near future) Microsoft would just continue to develop games for the PC. They still make enough money from that and windows anyway.Mr-nameless

Yeah i guess, although some of them quite a lot later. Its just that the 360 brought some of the best games to masses - poeple who cant be bothered for pc gaming and just wanna 'plug and play'.

Yeah thats true, just look at how long it took for gears to be ported(and even then it was badly optimised. I can play crysis on high-ish settings but not gears?) anyhow I gotta agree with you there it's easier on consoles. still there are some plug and play games for PC(not many though)

agreed, ive been gaming for over 20 years and ive had more fun with my 360 over the last couple of years than with any other platform.... and ive own pretty much all of them, pc included.

I said IF it dies...i hope it doesnt. I believe its easily won the first half of this gen hands down with its great line up. We'll have to see what 2009 brings us. The ps3 may well be the more dominant console by then in terms of sales. For me though, sales have never mattered - a console could have the most sales and still in my eyes not be the best (wii).

If the 360 was backed by SEGA it would have been killed by name-plate fanboys already, happily, MS has a bit more money and organization to be in this fight for a long, long time.

Personally, as a console I never felt anything too special about the Xbox 360 from the time I opened the box up and held it in my hands it just didnt feel/look it's pricetag - it has some great exclusives but those can be played on the PC if must be although I tend to not buy games that are short term - I bought Forza 2 and Halo 3 and spent many hours on those and borrowed many other games and clocked them without buying them. As for the other games you've mention... Gears of War - I attempted to play but far out I couldnt stand the gameplay/style. Bioshock was great playing at a mate's place but as it only had single play it wasnt worthwhile purchasing. Mass Effect I never got into didnt interest me.

The Playstation 3 on the other hand from the time I opened the box up and held it up it definitely looked it's pricetag and features. Quality second to none. It may not have as many exclusives as the Xbox 360 but what exclusives it did/will have is worth it for me. I bought it purely for GT5P as I did for Forza 2 and the Xbox 360. Well worth the purchase I must say and with Metal Gear Solid 4's release just around the corner I'm ready to rock! Final Fantasy XIII will be magnificant. Any other games will be a bonus for me... Resistance 2 etc.

The Wii... its nice - with it's low price it didnt seem as much of a punch to the guts like the above consoles. Quality is up there. Plenty of fun games to keep me entertained for those quick casual fun and is great to play with the missus and when bunch of mates drop round. But as a stand alone console its not enough to fulfil my hardcore gaming needs...

Personally, I love all 3 consoles... they all have their good points and bad points. Competition is great - it keeps each of the consoles competitive and constanly improving to bring a better gaming experience to the consumers. Although, I like the Playstation 3 as a console better - quality, looks and gaming it just feels so much more 'awesome'? lol

360 is my fav so far this gen, I just got a chance to play the ps3

some good looking games but lacking textures, and the system itself is cumbersome to use

Agreed. Anyway, this generation has been terrible for games imo. Overly long production times, shorter games and more expensive games. And emphasis on visuals over excellent and unique gameplay quite often.

Hey now, the Dreamcast was the first with online, had the best memory storage system, innovative hardware, and the hardware was extremely stable, comparing the 360 to the DC just doesn't work.

The 360, hardware wise, is useless, software wise, it's fantastic, but god machines are made that way because they changed the game somehow, and the 360 has not done that.

A handful of great titles (Gears, Bioshock, and Mass Effect), a ton of RRoD, and (if this thread turns out to be true) a console that lasted only 4 years. Yeah, it deserves praise :roll:

And let me guess, you'd jump right on to the next MS console. Although they haven't been able to show that they can even support a console for more than 4-5 years.

Wii library has some real gems in it too, and virtual console is the best download service. Never understood why there is so much hate towards the wii.

You're somewhat right with your witty remark. Quanity =/= Quality, but You tend to get more Quality with a bigger selection.

The 360 is hitting the limits of what it can do as for games, the technology in the 360 is fairly old. The PS3 is loaded with very new technology that hasn't been used in main stream PC's and some technology that is begining to show-up in main stream PC's.jimm895

What super-cool futuristic BS is Sony making the fanboys believe today? To say the PS3 is doing things a PC hasn't done is completely ridiculous. The Cell design had been tried way before the PS3 came around and was deemed a waste of time to code for and given up in it's infancy. The GPU is even worse off since it's basically the exact same as the GeForce 7900 GTX which is really dated now. It also has an extreme lack of memory. The only thing I can think that it has is the Sixaxis, which really, I wouldn't ever dream of using on a PC when I have the option of a mouse and keyboard. I would add Blu-Ray to the list, but the PC has had it longer than the PS3 has been around.

As far as the 360 dying in 09, I doubt it. MS has been known to beat dead horses to dust before giving the competition any space, don't see that changing with the XboX brand. And with nearly bottomless funds, MS will probably keep it going as long as they possibly can. If it did go down, I wouldn't regret buying mine, it was the first console I'd purchased in over a decade for a reason.

As long as microsoft has zero economic profit in the long run in their gaming department, they are happy. And even suggesting that Microsoft will die is a pretty ignorant statement with 18 or so million consoles in consumers hands. Yes they have suffered losses from hardware failure, but even with that they are reducing costs of repairing consoles. In the long run, they will end up with a solid annual profit of over 1.5 billion dollars a year. As of right now, they are making 500 millionannuallyfrom xbox live subscriptions alone, with another 400 million from xbox live arcade/DLC/Movie&TV show Rentals. With theadditionalprofit from being a major publisher for the Xbox 360 and PC gaming markets, it's fair to say xbox is not going anywhere. The world will have 3 gaming consoles for a very long time. And if you really want microsoft to die, and have one console for all graphically impressive games, your idiotic. This would pretty much kill the gaming industry.(remember what happened before the NES when gaming became a fad, and it praticly died?) I own an xbox 360 and no other systems. If the 360 was to die in 2009 theres no way i would regret buying one. Ive played some seriously awesome games in the last couple of years that i would never have been able to play on another console (PC doesnt matter to me). Gears, bioshock, mass effect, halo3, just to mention a few. I was always planning to get a ps3 probably in 2009 when it goes down in price and picks up its stide (hopefully it'll have some decent games by then). But surley most poeple can agree that the 360 has been a king for games since its release..? In my eyes, its the best GAMES console...not multimededia system or blu ray player. tifaz

When it can surpass what the PS2 has already done and still going fairly strong then it might become a good system but until then it's just a plain low end game console.
