And started charging for online and turned it profitable, do you think it would be a smart move by Apple?

And would you personally object to that? or it doesn't matter who owns the Playstation brand as long as you still get to play its exclusives IPs?

Edit: And for people saying it'll be expensive, Apple could just simply offer Playstation products subsidized with 2 years contracts.

There are laws in place that prevent a western company from owning more than 50% of a japaneese entity.

I would object to that. I have a feeling they would start making you buy proprietary parts, while overcharging just like they do with everything they make.

Sony usually sells there products for a loss while apple usually sells them for a massive profit. You have no clue what you are talking about. If the PS3 was an apple product it would cost $400 dollars for the base model .

Yea people seem to be confused that there is no such thing as the Playstation division its the Consumer Electronic divsion which houses Playstaiton, TV's , camcorders , laptops and smartphones. The 2.8 billion is not from the actualy playstaiton.

Except the PS3 already cost $500 at launch for the base model.

As a customer, it matters two hoots to me whether the company itself sells its products at profit or loss. It matters how much I'm being asked to pay. They ask me to pay $599 for a console. They ask me to pay $249 for a handheld, plus at least $30 more for the Memory Cards (which are proprietary). They charge $50 for handheld games. They, as far as I am concerned, overprice their products. End of discussion.

If apple owned playstation we'd be up to PS10 in this one gen alone. And there would be minor differences between each model.

If you think the Vita is overpriced then what the hell is the I pad? A $300 vita with a $100 dollar memory card has a retail price of $400. Then go play your $4 I pad apps If you cant see the quality diffrence theres no hope for you and you need to get a new hobby. You should actually look into what you are buying . The vita which is planned to have a 5 year life span that cost less then a tablet that has a 1 year life span seems to be an outstanding value to me. End of discussion.

PS3 Slim 160 GB would cost $400. 320 GB for $500. Each game would cost $1-$10. Low prices means every game would have dirt cheap budgets.

Bascially a casual console worse than wii.

Quite a few of us have thought this for years...are you musicalmac's Alt account? That way you can have some fun without having to worry about your moderator reputation (what's left of it anyways). The anti playstation sentiment in every post and thread, pro 360 and Apple vibe, the pro Netflix, anti Blu-Ray aura, the subtle trolling, the basic and blunt, near-empty posts, the vocaculary...it all fits, and for years.

As far as the topic, I don't care what Apple does. Whatever happens, happens. They would presumably jack the price up on hardware, but also do great in sales....but since I don't care about sales, it would be about the games for me, like always.

Since ps3 has no gaems, and apple can't play games, it sounds like it would work.

Ultimately, I may not like sony, but I do find apple to be a more moneygrabbing company with terrible hardware and software. Apple tends to be extremely douche-y about what they put on their devices, with all their, "we tell you what you want" which makes me hate them even more. That and the exorbitant prices on their hardware, hell you though $599 was expensive? prepare for twice that with crapple selling the ps4. Either way, I think it's in everyone's best interests apart from apple, for apple to not buy playstation.

Depends on what you factor as best. Usability? Content? Form factor and durability? Customer and technical service? Price? Aesthetics? "proof that products that sell the most.." doesn't mean the best or worst since you havn't stated what the criteria is for best. Sorry to get so analytical.

If that were to happen we all know who to really blame for such a thing... Sony themselves for selling out to Apple. It's ok though. There are other consoles out there like the Xbox360 and Wii and all Sony exclusives can be spread across those two platforms and PC. Just like what happened with Sega. It's a win-win.

No, I prefer handheld games when they're $30. At most $40. $50 games I will not tolerate. And why are you comparing the Vita with Apple products? What are you trying to prove? That an iPad isn't as good as a Vita for gaming? I agree. It's not. But a product 2/3rds the price of a Vita is infinitely better for gaming right now. That's my point of comparison. Oh, and as for Sony selling it at a loss: tough beans. Maybe they shouldn't stuff their products with cutting edge technology. It's clear the market doesn't want bleeding edge products. The initial low sales of the PS3 and then the Vita all prove this.

Concept of Microeconomics: the price that the market is willing to buy something at indicates their desire for that product, or the value they place on it. Since the market isn't even willing to buy fairly priced high technology, it's clear that it doesn't care for it much.

LOL.

Sony is losing ground with the PS Vita and the PSP is pretty much aging is the only one holding the mantle for their handheld games.

How many lossess are Sony going through in their other divisions and I don't recall Apple suffering a $4 billion loss recently, in fact it was the opposite they have like what $90 billion in cash?!?!?

Hey, I don't mind arrogance if you have the skills, products or merits to back them up but Sony are eating humble pie and it's fanboys are still acting as though it's 2001 and not 2012.

Sony had heaps of Shoddy PS2s with DREs

Apple had problems with their antennae on the iPhone 4.

The Xbox360 had RRO'd.

It's fair game to criticize faulty hardware, why should Sony be an exception?

whatever dude,

This desperate excuse reminds of Ken Kutaragi mentioning along the lines "It's good not many people buy the PS3 as it is expensive for us to make..."

so if it's price people care about could you explain why a lot of Apple's products sell so well? Or do people prefer to just pay out of the butt when it comes to Apple, but not Sony?

and still sell in the millions. Better Hardware, slicker design, better content delivery, aesthetics, ease of use..

Sony can't do this, doesn't matter how many Giant crabs they show.

Sony usually sells there products for a loss while apple usually sells them for a massive profit. You have no clue what you are talking about. If the PS3 was an apple product it would cost $400 dollars for the base model .

You mean expensive, overpriced imply sony is making tons of profit on each unit like nintendo did with 3ds when it launched at $250 for less tech. Most vita games are $40 same price as psp last gen and same as 3ds this gen.

IF This happened:

If Apple gained access to factories/employees, they would probably shut them down along with the workforce, before giving Foxconn a call about extra labor.

Foxconn manufacturers, says the BOM(with transportation fees included) comes out to around 200 ish, Apple will charge something around 400 for it. There are VERY few things in the Apple system that are free, so I'm sure most people won't blink an eye when they get another bill for another service, or hell even have a problem with paying for it if it's mandatory.

Most thins I buy hardware wise are Samsung, Apple, Sony, or Nintendo. Yes I like Apple deal with it. If all they did was charge a little more I would be fine with it, but If they tried to app-store it up and casualize it then noooo. But otherwise they have very nice hardware just as sony does Btw strongdeadlift, could be wrong but doesn't playststion make up less then 50% of sony at the moment?

Yet it cost them $850 to produce each model at launch . If apple were to sell the Ps3 at launch it would have had a price tag of over $1000 . If you think the Vita is overpriced then what the hell is the I pad? A $300 vita with a $100 dollar memory card has a retail price of $400. A 32gig New I pad goes for about $730 and still isnt as capable of playing the quality of games you get ont he vita. $50 dollar game is overpriced? Then go play your $4 I pad apps If you cant see the quality diffrence theres no hope for you and you need to get a new hobby. You should actually look into what you are buying . The vita which is planned to have a 5 year life span that cost less then a tablet that has a 1 year life span seems to be an outstanding value to me. End of discussion.

I gotta agree with this. The Vita is a far better deal even if you do pay more for the games. And really, there are a lot of PSP and PSN games for Vita that dont cost more than $10, if that. Even they blow away what is on iPad. Vita is surprisingly good at web browsing as well.

If Apple bought the Playstation Brand, there is no Playstation Division, they should do like Activision does Blizzard. They should just let them continue to function without interference. As for profitability, Playstation is not the reason Sony is having money troubles. They did take a big hit early on PS3, and its still too early for Vita to be a profit for them. Other than that, Sony's gaming division is doing fine.

but they make pricecuts of the same model without the need of having a newer one, apple doesnt.

There products are overpriced and full blown proof that products that sell the most are not always the best.
