Then why are there people whoconsistentlysuck at it? (me)

And why are there people who areconsistentlygood at it? (other people)

EDIT: Sorry about the spacing.. I kept editing it to space it out but when I would post it, then it would still be the same.

I suck at MW1 yet I find MW3 achingly easy. Too easy. Its clear that the series is slowly being dumbed down.

Because you have to know how to play video games, of course. j/k....however the game takes some skill but not a lot. It is very accessible to anyone, like mostly every other console game.

I suck at Every CoD Online except im really good at Black Ops. How is it being dumbed down? Isnt it getting more complex with all the new stuff being added. Idk, Im not trying to defend CoD because I dont like it that much but im just curious.

......the only way of sucking at CoD would be... not actually pressing any button during the match... :P First time I played it ( and it was one my very first times playing FPS games on a console) I got a triple kill just by throwing a random grenade in a random direction... lol Desmonic
That never happens for me and I ALWAYS try when I play lol.

By dumbed down I mean becoming way to easy and "casual". Auto-aim is a huge factor contributing to this.

The formula is changing a little. They definitely developed Modern Warfare 3 as a run and gun game with little choice to change that. While the previous games were much slower. Actually it gets slower ass you go backwards in Call of Duty games. My play style in many of these games is move slow from checkpoint to checkpoint. Slowly clear out a room or whatever and slowly move to another location. I can't do that in MW3. It is not camping btw.

Well damn, how could that be? Have you ever thought that the game has 0 balance in it? It's a brainless shooter that let's, no wait - endorses, camping. Killstreaks? Claymores? Perks? These things are jokes and those 'good' players would get smoked in any real competitive shooter.

....You are confusing skill with chance.

The same people who say CoD takes skill are probably the ones who spin around in circles with sniper rifles and rely on latency and aim assist to get their stupid ballerina shot.

The same people who throw knives into the air and randomly get someone.

It's easy to be unlucky in a game that requires chance to dominate.

Any competitive game takes a certain amount of skill. Even with something as incredibly shallow as say, Mortal Kombat 2. There is still a certain amount of skill to be attained.

Skill ceiling. That is the term people need to familiarize themselves with. Does it take skill to be good at CoD? Of course. Even so, the skill ceiling is very low.

The reason its veryaccessible tp everyone is because everyone plays it.... even non gamers I guess. Plus the newer ones are very unblanced MW2 and MW3 being the mainculprits. Play COD4 on the PC and tust me you wont find the gameaccessible if you meet up with a good player in a TDM match or SND.

Try playing Quake Live or Unreal Tournament 2004.

See how quickly CoD turns to noob friendly jelly IYO.

Are you good at other FPS games but are just bad at CoD? Keep in mind that a lot of people who play CoD, only play CoD. Anyone with any decent experience with FPS games usually can pell decent scores, but if you're not used to the quick deaths, horrible spawns, and watching your radar constantly, then you're probably going to do pretty poorly

Yet all these cheap, or "broken" aspects you guys are listing are available to anyone who plays. There is still a certain amount of skill required. There is a reason why some players consistently do well, while others consistently do poorly.

I know its "cool" to hate on CoD. I don't really care for the games myself. But you guys are just blindly hating at this point.

The skill ceiling may be low, but that is not the same as requiring no skill at all.

You probably play CoD like you would Halo. They require different playstyIes since you have so much less health in CoD. Basically if you want to do well just stay in the same area and point your gun down long corridors. Cover your flanks with claymores and completely disregard the objective. Also note that in CoD your gun actually comes out of your face, so if you stand behind objects that your gun barely peeks over, the enemy will barely be able to see you yet you'll be able to shoot them just fine

CoD does take skill. Same as how Mario Kart takes skill, the difference between those games and say something like Counter Strike is that they are much more accessible. Just about anyone can play them and do relatively well, even with no prior experience.

It does take skill, its just that CoD is easier to get into. A skilled player can consistently maintain a top score throughout each match which I'm sure some of you arent able to do.

Of course there's skill involved, it just sucks that so many kills are had due to total bulll**** that involves little to no skill. I played against a team the other day were all using dual FMG9s. What's the point of playing a game if everyone is going to run around using the most ****ing overpowered, unbalanced, piece of **** combo in the history of video games? **** IW for even putting dual wielding in the game to start with. They couldn't even be bothered to put in a proper spawning system.

I don't understand how people think it's being dumbed down... it's an arena game basically, throw 16 people onto a small map and let them murder eaach other. Throw some different types of gametypes in there for variety... the game was never "smart" to begin with.

This. Andd....the game CAN require a lot of skill; it depends on the player. See, any game you can find the easiest thing and stick with it. COD is one of those games where there are many easy ways to get in and do well, which leads it to have a fairly bad rep. But saying that's the only way to play well is pure BS and one of the reasons I can't stand when reading online. If you try other classes where you're not just camping or taking advantage of some imbalance or "noob" strategy, the game can be quite challenging, and dare I say, fun. It's this difference that sets players apart.

The accessibility is just a characteristic of the series, and one of the main reasons why it has become so popular. But that shouldn't be a reason to hate it.

Here's how I see it. (In simplistic graph form)

Notice how the average skill of an experienced gamer begins higher than CoD's skillcap.

Many people on this forum would probably fit into that "Experienced Gamer" category. They've played FPS games in past such as Counter Strike, or Quake, and CoD just doesn't compare.

Actually, to be perfectly honest, I think, if played a certain way, CoD can take skill.

It's just that there are so many easy ways to exploit the combat, that playing with skill is almost pointless.

Not even. I really go like 3 Kills and 17 Deaths some games. Sometimes I'll get a good amount of kills but still have a bad ratio like 14 Kills and 20+ Deaths

Thank God someone has half a brain. The game is fun which is why many play and enjoy it. And, it does require skill to have the top score five matches in a row, that's common sense but most here lack that.

I dont understand how people say that people who are bad can do well, so it takes no skill. That is true for every game. Just because a guy managed to go 20kills 7deaths this match, it doesnt change the fact that his kdr is 0.65 after 50hrs of playtime
