If Gamers are spending THOUSANDS for Crysis..Whats stopping them from buying PS3

Like my topic says. Plenty of people are spending thousands of dollars just for a PC to play Crysis. So my question is this.. Time and time again I hear people on these forums saying "People wont spend $600.00 for one good PS3 title" Well if thats the case, explain why people are paying thousands to play Crysis and people paid $400.00 to play Gears. You might say "But bu but 360 has other good games besides Gears" True, But speaking as someone that bought the 360 just for Gears of war, not as many people would have bought the 360 if it wasnt for Gears, me being one of them.

So whats to stop people paying $600.00 when that one "Must Have" killer app PS3 title hits store shelves.  As the old saying goes.. "A sucker is born every second" People will pay ANYTHING to get their hands on the next hottest item or game. Hence why 360 and PS3 sold for over $1000.00 after they where released. Believe me, $600.00 is not a high price tag... Its just a high price when there is no killer app games for it.. Believe me, when PS3 gets that "Gears" type of game, you will see people stepping over each other to drop $600.00 for a PS3

I know Jack Tretton is full of it sometimes. But I recall a recent interview with him discussing the price point of the PS3 and he simply said "Our object is not the price of the PS3 but getting out great software and great killer apps to justify the high price point"and he hit the nail on the head.

A pc can do so much more than just play games. :|

There ISN'T a killer app for the PS3, so people don't want one.

That is subject to change of course, but for the moment, no.

I know of people spending maybe $2000 for a slew of games that include Crysis, I don't know of anyone who buy an "uber"

computer worth thousands of dollars is going to be having it for more then simply crysis 

The majority of people that will buy Crysis are already PC gamers so a simple upgrade is all that's needed. I spent £450 (a whole £50!!! more then a PS3) on a new CPU/Mobo/GPU/PSU to play Crysis along with 20+ other games that I want on PC this year. I am only interested in two games out of the whole PS3 line-up (GT5/FF13/MGS4), two of which probably won't even be available till late next year.

I would have to be out of my mind to spend £400 on that paper weight when I could spend and extra £50 and get such a better selection of games.

No mods, no large scale games, no completely private teamspeak lines, not free great matchmaking, alot smaller community, will never upgrade, Watch a Movie and play a game at the same time, play music in the backround, no MMORPGS (lorl Huxley and Age of conan :roll:) terrible FPS controller (standard) barely any RTS games....

No way. A console kid that actually knows how much it cost to build a decent rig. You get bonus points for that. Your A OK in my books.

You're talking about an existing group of people (hardcore PC gamers) who will upgrade their hardware to get the most out of a PC game - those same people aren't interested in buying a prebuilt console for a PS3 game. Why? They enjoy the hardware, the enjoy the upgrading, and for them it's about tinkering with the hardware.

A PC gamer will not spend $600 on a piece of hardware with 18 month old parts inside, one that's completely non-upgradeable, doesn't support keyboard / mouse for gaming, and won't let them run software other than PS3 games.

As far as the market is concerned, those people are useless to PS3 sales.

Plus, to fully disparage your point - the PS3 doesn't produce better graphics than an Xbox 360 ($400) and is completely oblitterated by what $600 worth of upgrades to the GPU of a computer will do for you. Put $600 towards Windows Vista and a Radeon HD 2900xt, and you'll get graphics the likes of Crysis, put it into the PS3 and you get...uh... err.... 

The PS3 doesn't even have *one* game yet - a further problem, especially when MGS4 goes to the 360 (and maybe even PC). 

Easy everything on PS3 is crap. At least with PC you can surf the web or order a spouse off Ebay.

People are more willing to upgrade a PC because they're not just getting Crysis. They're getting access to dozens of computer applications as well. The PC has the most of everything, and the PC market is different from the console market.

How many broad, "why" or "how" or "what" topics does he write every day? I think he just likes to get a lot of attention and replies, and it usually works.

Anyway, most people already have a PC, all they need is a DX10 card and (UUUUUUGH ANGER ANGER ANGER) Vista (ugh). I don't think anyone is spending thousands of dollars just for Crysis. We know more games are on the way. The same people spending thousands on a PC would spend $600 on a PS3. It's the whiners who can't afford a second 360 controller because they bought a recharge pack (:lol: ) that complain about PS3 and PC's being too costly. Me, I'll take em all, thanks. No game is going to pass me by this gen.

These "other things" people speak of are not just Hotmail, Empornium, MS Office and Sudoku. Some of us are into professional audio or video production, and you need a big beefy computer for that as well. Gaming is not the only reason to build a rig.

Photoshop / Sony Vegas / 3D Studio Max / (well most adobes) .

u forgot one thing..... PC has more ppl developing for it then all the consoles combined, and PS3 wont have a AAA title till '08 at the EARLIEST
