Like my topic says. Plenty of people are spending thousands of dollars just for a PC to play Crysis. So my question is this.. Time and time again I hear people on these forums saying "People wont spend $600.00 for one good PS3 title" Well if thats the case, explain why people are paying thousands to play Crysis and people paid $400.00 to play Gears.

What's stopping them from buying a PS3 is that the PS3 doesn't interest them. Take me, for instance. I'm already setting aside money to upgrade to a DX10 system when the second-gen DX10 video cards are released. I'm looking to spend about $400-$500 on a video card alone. Why? Because it's my money, I don't want a PS3, and if someone gave me a PS3, it would probably never get taken out of its box (until I sold it). Same goes for a Wii and 360. They simply don't interest me. And again, it has nothing to do with hardware. I find games on consoles last a week or few at the most, then they're relegated to the dusty corners of the game shelf. Whereas on PC, I've still got games installed and still play games that are a decade old. The games I like have depth. And by depth I mean complicated. Civilization, IL2: Sturmovik, Shogun Total War, Daggerfall, Homeworld, Fallout and so on...even after a decade Consoles haven't matched these games in their respective genres. These are the kinds of game that appeal to me, not Ninjas, not sword-toting rope-surfing anime babes, not cars, not sports, and certainly not cute plumbers and hedgehogs. I like: -War, without fantasy elements (i.e. recharging shields/health, power ups items, etc.) -Mechanized War, without robots. -Flight Combat, with full Sim controls intact -Progressive history games, like Civ -4x in general -Games that are easier to loose than they are to win...and I mean that.; try flying in formation for an hour just to have your screen go black from the AAA gun on the ground you never even saw...do it a few times and you'll be white-knuckled even in the quite moments with anticipation of what 'could' happen. Or maybe after 100 turns on Civilization you find out the economic strategy you started 75 turns ago just lost you the game. THAT'S a good, challenging game. If you take those criteria and filter the games out, you'll find the PC is far and away the system for me. And I don't mind spending money on it because the money I put into it is USEFUL...it makes it BETTER. As opposed to spinning tire rims on my car, or a grill on my teeth, or bling bling...these do nothing, they're just money sinks. I feel good about dropping money on my PC. It makes me giddy.

Why I'm investing up to 2000 US$ into a new gaming PC rather than both an Xbox 360 Elite and a 60 GB PS3: -My current PC can't even run current games worth a crap! (AXP 1800+, 512 MB DDR-266 single-channel, 9600 XT 128 MB, 60 GB 5,400 RPM IDE/PATA HDD, Windows XP Home SP2) -I want Bioshock BADLY. Even more than Crysis, which is also on my must-get list. Also, I need something that can play Armed Assault, Battlefield 2, and TES IV: Oblivion, among other games. -Console games don't have user-created content most of the time. Try playing Garry's Mod on your console version of Half-Life 2...oh, wait, you can't. This can go as far as a PC gamer creating his/her own game! -PCs have a VAST selection of input devices available, ranging from gaming-grade KB+M combos, gamepads(the Xbox 360 and PS3 ones will work without any adapters!), racing wheels(particularly the Logitech DFP and G25), HOTAS setups(especially the Thrustmaster and CH Products offerings), head-tracking devices, and other oddball controllers like my Steel Battalion set and my Spacetec SpaceOrb 360. Oh, and Wiimotes and their attachments aren't out of the question either, if you have a Bluetooth-enabled PC. -PCs have TONS of games that they've accrued over the years, and that's not even counting those that can be played with emulators! -PCs are naturally the best platforms to browse the Internet with. Opera on Wii could come close if USB and/or Bluetooth keyboards were supported. I'd love to have all of the gaming platforms, but it's too expensive to do so. I feel that with the PC, it's justified because of its sheer versatility. The PS3...not so much, since it's supposed to mainly be a gaming console with a Blu-ray player thrown in for good measure. It might be worth the money if I started using the Blu-ray and installed Linux on it, though. Furthermore, since I don't own a PS2, getting a PS3 would open that library up to me provided that Sony doesn't cripple the BC.

So whats to stop people paying $600.00 when that one "Must Have" killer app PS3 title hits store shelves.  As the old saying goes.. "A sucker is born every second" People will pay ANYTHING to get their hands on the next hottest item or game. Hence why 360 and PS3 sold for over $1000.00 after they where released. Believe me, $600.00 is not a high price tag... Its just a high price when there is no killer app games for it.. Believe me, when PS3 gets that "Gears" type of game, you will see people stepping over each other to drop $600.00 for a PS3

I know Jack Tretton is full of it sometimes. But I recall a recent interview with him discussing the price point of the PS3 and he simply said "Our object is not the price of the PS3 but getting out great software and great killer apps to justify the high price point"and he hit the nail on the head.

A PC that can handle Crysis decently > PS3Mikerules868

Yeah im with yah buddy. There is nothing that interests me on the PS3 right now. And to think that i was going to sell my 360 on ebay just so i could get the money to buy a PS3. I would have gotten a lot for it since i got it at launch.

Firstly, not even the biggest PC fanboy would be enough a moron to pay thousands just to play ONE game that looks pretty.

Secondly, I wouldnt pay 10 pence for Crysis, its not my kind of game, and I dont give a sh*t how good it looks,

Thirdly, I wouldnt pay 10 pence for a PS3 unless it actually had good games for it, and dont say it has MGS4, cos im not interested in that either.....

(To those who will probably take me seriously = im obviously exaggerating on the third point - but you get what I mean)

If you knew anything about crysis you would know that the devs have spent more time on gameplay than anything else. They said the graphics are just an added bonus. Not saying you have to like it. But do some research.

This topic is seriously just nothing but opinion.  "Plenty" of people...........that is quite vague and has no backing.  And it's not like people are just paying that amount of money for Crysis as well.

A pc can do so much more than just play games. :|

True ...Facebook is the best !

A pc is a lot more useful than a PS3. :|

??? I guess i spend more time on a PC than consoles .

PC gets more AAAs than consoles. :|

Yeah but they aren't that great like wtf ???Dinner Dash . Anyway PCs are the home of RTS
so if you like them by all means go with them

PC graphics are leaps ahead of any console to date. :|
If you mean textures , resolutions and stuff yeah expensive PCs can do that better but not many games on the PC look better than Gears of War although everynow and then really good games come out like Half Life 2 , Far cry , Crysis etc.

Well it didn't stop me.  Also, I wouldn't buy my PC for just one game - that is hardly smart.  They're too different in their functions for you to compare.

A PC can do a lot more than a PS3. Sure, the PS3 has more multimedia than a Gamecube, but it's not comparable to a PC.

There are tons of great DX10 PC games coming out that people will get. Crysis is a good point for people to upgrade and part of the reason they're doing it. If I didn't want Bioshock and the best shooter multiplats I wouldn't be upgrading just for 1 game.

And people aren't buying PS3 because of the negativity surrounding it, the high price, and waiting for games. I bought one as soon as I could. No hardware faults, Resistance is great, and even if it doesn't win I know that Sony will be producing tons and tons of 1st party exclusives along with MGS4 and FFXIII regardless. The main problem is most hardcore PS fanbase are just not rich zealots who'll buy whatever is new like Xbox fans....

With a PC i can make my own game, modify a game engine or make a website. i can also save video,Songs. PC is a long term investment and no you don't need to spend thousands of dollars for a Gaming PC. i bet if you buy a dell with a dual core and 1gb of ram for 599 when it come to your house go buy a geforce 8800 for 250 and your be able to play PC games for the next 4 years(and meet mininmum requirments for the next 6). Whats stoping people from buying a PS3 is there not impatient and they wanna purchase it when they can get a few AAA titles on the same day and not wait 6 month at a time between titles. People are noit gonna upgrade there PC just for Crysis thats a huge misconception they will wait till they have a PC can run it , PC games are not like Console games there are not a Fad and die out after a year in popularity , it's a trend people will eventually buy it maybe 2 years after release. go to Walmart they have Diablo and Starcraft new, no go and try to find any PSone game , it's not gonna happen.(both those game released 10 years ago when PS was still hot)
