if Gears is overrated what should've won GOTY 2006 ?

I see so many people saying Gears is the most overatted game this gen , I guess because of the 9.6 score it got

So if Gears is so overrated what deserved GOTY last year cause I have to hear this

Get real , on a technical level Nothing last year could even come close to Gears of War .

not to mention even on a objective level almost everyone should agree if it wasnt the best it was one of the best in Voice acting, Sound, Music, Weapons and Multiplayer .

Gears warrants is score last year easily , if it came out now a 9.0 in this scale , but it didnt . Get over you Prime 3 and Bioshock Woes and trying to pass this transgression onto a masterpiece. Standards go up after time

every character had a voice. Like it or not it had a voice acting.

It just didn't have English voice acting, which I am completely fine with.

Most of the time, English voice acting is what ruins the game.

I don't think it's overrated. many fanboys and haters say most of the Microsoft console exclusives games are overrated (i.e. halo). It'll happen to Mass Effect and Halo 3 when they score well.

They're the only ones that actually hate the game. The rest of the world thought it was a great game. And I agree with them.

Since when does rapidly pressing the attack button blindly to kill everything make good gameplay ? Cause the battles in Okami are so easy they're laughable

Since it doesn't affect gameplay which is the deciding factor which makes or breaks a game. Voice acting has been around since the Playstation era and yet Metroid Prime won GOTY without Voice Acting as did Wind Waker.

Resistance is much better than Gears. IMHO. So, Resistance should've won GOTY. Or maybe Oblivion. Lots of hours of fun to be had with both of those games.

im going to disagree with u on resistance. i agree with the score gamespot gave it. to me it was a AA game.

other 3 games were good candidates for goty, but i think gears deserved it. had amazing graphics and gameplay was fun. it was fresh from other shooter games at the time. i know game was based off 4 other games but they made it work.

I'd say Okami, or Oblivion.....just because it was overrated doesn't mean it still can't be the best game also. I probably would have voted for Oblivion.

EDIT: I'm surprised that people are saying Resistance. I don't think it's even in the same league as Gears.

I'd say Gears deserved GOTY for 2006.Back then it was the most graphically impressive game released and there wasnt one single game which could match it.For the time period it was released in, it got the correct score, imo.

And there is no way Zelda deserved GOTY over Gears, that game is borderline boring(and thats coming from a Zelda fan).Cant comment on Okami , since I've never played it.Oblivion comes a close second for GOTY.

Frankly, I thought Zelda was the best game I played last year.

Gears of War's was a beautiful and incredibly fun game, but to be frank, the story and dialogue were absolute garbage.

Oblivion could have been GOTY but it's main quest was ****ing awful. The DB makes it a close contender, but Zelda had too much going for it.

Zelda TP, was, to me, the ultiamte cumination of all of the previous Zeldas. It was a sharpened, honed, and highly polished realization of the Zelda formula.

In other words, it was badass.

And the graphics are pretty much the best on GC, with RE4 being the only thing that really challenges it; and Zelda's art blows it out of the water.

It had the epic scale of Ocarina of Time, with the darker storytelling of Majora's Mask.

It was pure genius.

It's possible to be GOTY and still be overrated. In 2006, the game market had one of the weakest lineups ever released. Sure there were a few gems, but for the most part, it was a very depressing time. GeOW might have been the best of the bunch, but that wasn't saying much. TBH, I believe the game droubt had continued up till this month. Things are looking up for the first time in a long time.

X3....It was one of the best RTSs to come out in recent past.

Zelda:TP was so epic that it was not just a game but an experience. It perfected the style created by OOTto such a degree that they will have to completly change the entire series because no further improvementscan be made to the current formula.It was a game that deserved to be GOTY for 2006. However, if Zelda had lost to a game like Okami then I guess that would have been ok considering that Okami is an amazing experience as well.

Zelda and Okami both remind me of why I play games. Gears was ok as a FPS but one year later I find myself playing R6:LV way more.
