The xbox floped because it had started last and sony locked up all the exclusives plus ms didn't own the hardware. That said the xbox was a very good console and halo helped sell that console. While I am not a halo head (I am a hermit) it introduced console gamers to fps that missed unreal on the dreamcast.

You know, at least in my case you are right. Halo was the game that made me like FPSs, and now i'm a big fan of the series, regardless of the system. I even got used to keyboard and mouse (wich i hated) and for some time now i play PC FPSs too, all thanks to Halo.

xbox wasn't the best selling console of its generation, but that doesn't make it a failure

dreamcast was a failure, 3DO was a failure, atari jaguar was a failure, xbox was definitely not a failure

it allowed microsoft to carve out a place for itself in the console market and introduce Live, both of which provided a solid base on which MS could build to do even better with the 360mwa

the xbox created over 20 million customers from NOTHING.... no name recognition, no legendary franchises (until halo), and lauunched the most comprehensive online service ever known for gaming....

my question is why do alot of cows see the xbox as a failure..since when did a console need to sell 100 million plus consoles to be called successful? the xbox sold millions of consoles not only after the ps2 released,but without already having a fanbase..calling that a faillure is just BS

Fanboys hate competition so they will call xbox a failure and everything a failure really. Especially now with the PS3 doing bad you will see Cows bashing the xbox and ofcourse Halo cause they seem to hate that they can't have Halo on their console so much for some reason. Lucky for me I had a PS2 and Xbox so I didn't care I played Halo and MGS3 :)

Not if only MGS4 could come to the 360 I don't have to get a PS3 for god knows how long

I mean KOTOR and Halo alone are enough reasons to own an xbox back then. KOTOR is one of the best games of all time IMO and easily in the top 3 for best storyline of all time in gaming history IMO

Strange since lemmings and cows seemed to think the GameCube failed as well cause it sold the same amount of consoles as the Xbox. I dunno about you folks but the GC had a far better lineup of games then the Xbox, there were some great games on it but not as many as the Cube. Both consoles had their fair share of great games, the Xbox had Ninja Gaiden, MechAssault and Halo: CE while the Cube had great titles like Paper Mario, Baiten Kaitos, Tales of Symphonia, Mario Kart, F-Zero GX, Star Fox Adventures and the Metroid Prime games, I think earlier on the GC had a more consistant run of good games and started losing support by the 4th year whereas the Xbox started picking up after its second year with more titles and had some better games after the GC started to die.

The Gamecube actually sold a few million less than the Xbox, this is a known fact. The GC didn't "fail", it wasn't discontinued (until the Wii came out). It did fail to outsell the newcomer MS though.
