M$ in my opinion seems to want to appeal more the hardcore gamer, with their services and games, than casuals. I've talked to a lot of casuals, and they feel like buying a 360 is a difficult task, because it just doesn't seem that inviting to them. Sony is in lala land, so they can be excused.

Wii indeed focuses a lot on the casual players, but then again where were the hardcore players when nintendo needed them (i was playung my PC)

HINT A fair number of PS2 sales were what you would define as "casual".

But my favorite Hardcore Developer Treasure is only making games for the 360, DS, and Wii. If you don't know who Treasure is play Ikaruga, Gunstar Heroes, Gaurdian Heroes, and Sin and Punishment. They also made Dynamite Headdy for SEGA.

All of the companies have been seeking to go mainstream since they began, Nintendo got going because it's sucess with the NES was relatively mainstream for the time.

The market for "hardcore games" (a highly dubious term) has gotten about as big as it's going to get, there aren't many ways to expand now outside of going for non-hardcore gamers.

In fact all of those series started on nintendo consoles. and if you want to talk about grand theft auto. which console didIII, VC, and SAall sell over 10 million on (I'll give you a hint, it wasnt the xbox). None of those are Sony games.

And PS3 owners aren't "hardcore" at all. They don't buy games! Look at the October NPDs. They only bought 74,500 copies of Ratchet and Clank, a game which cost millions of dollars to make, and is getting more advertising than any other game. I see ads for that game every day, and I can't remember the last time I saw a Wii ad. Yet STILL, no one is buying it.

PS3 owners just bought the system to watch Spiderman 3 in high-def. Real "hardcore gamers" there, lol.

Last generation there were 100 million hardcore gamers that all bought the PS2, and the casuals were greatly outnumbered as only about 45 million existed last gen with the Xbox and Gamecube.

But some sort of plague killed off nearly 90 million which is why PS3 sales are where they are this generation, or perhaps some sort of "T-Virus" has converted them to casuals?

Because its a proven fact that hardcore gamers ONLY buy the consoles with the least AAAE's and least AAE's and knowing that fact there must be something wrong because PS3 clearly fills that critera and has only sold seven million consoles.

Hardcore gaming was already taken by casuals thanks to the PS1 and PS2. :lol:
