If my calculatons are correct.. PS3 will take over 360 WW by Dec this year

Well ive been doing some reasearch. The last Media Create hardware sales for the first week in Jan has PS3 selling 68,000 consoles and the 360 only selling 4,000 consoles. So the PS3 is outselling the 360 by 240,000 consoles in Japan... In EU and PAL the PS3 is outselling the 360 by approx 300k consoles a month and here in the US a average of 65,000 consoles.

So to add that up you get 556,000 the PS3 is outselling the 360 by Worldwide on a monthly basis. So 556,000 X 11 months is 6,116,000 units over the 360, right now the 360 has a 5.6 million lead, so by Dec 2010 if my calculations are correct the PS3 will have oficially overtaken the 360 and be ahead by 516,000 consoles..

Again keep in mind im using hard numbers to back up my case. Now ofcourse i realize some months maybe higher or lower than others, but keep in mind this is a average i calculated.

Also, can Sony really afford another price drop in 2010? If not, they won't come within 1 million units of the 360 in US sales.

You know what, I have no link, I work in a games shop, and we probably sold about 50 / 50 over december.

But when places like argos are selling arcades with forza 3, lips and scene it for 100 quid.

and when game were doing an elite with forza 3 and modern warfare 2 for free.its no suprise

Sony had no bundles or deals, the most I seen was with one free game. I had to plead with people to buy the uncharted 2 bundle, as they didnt know what it was,ps3 owners in the uk only buy cod and fifa.

I think TC is on to something here. I mean MAG comes out in only a few days, and everyone and their mother will be getting a PS3 for that game, so in actuality the PS3 could catch up to the 360 this month **crosses fingers**

This entire theory is based off of one GIANT assumption: That Microsoft is going to sit back and do NOTHING. I can 100% GUARANTEE that the PS3 will not have caught up by Dec 2010. To think that Microsoft is going to see it's lead deplete continually by half a MILLION per month and sit back and allow it to happen is completely asinine. Microsoft has Halo Reach and Natal this year and saying as they really didn't do a price cut to counter the PS3's big drop (only offering bigger HDD's for the same price) I'm sure Microsoft could at any time do a price drop if they needed to. I'm not saying the PS3 NEVER catches up to the 360, but in no way will it surpass the 360 by Dec 2010 like you're saying. I will take ANY bet on this issue.mythrol

I would counter by saying your defense of MS is based on one giant assumption: That there is anything more that MS can do.

Keep in mind that they launched a year earlier than the PS3, and $200 cheaper. Despite having a larger game library right now, and a sku even cheaper than the Wii...they STILL have not been able to increase their total lead beyond what they sold during that first year with ZERO competition. Price drops and exclusives have kept them ahead, but it has never helped them catch up. Hell, even when PS3 had their first official price drop last year, they were STILL more money than the 360 and managed to outsell it for roughly half the year.

Meanwhile, Sony has caught up in basic price, has released some great exclusive titles, and is supposedly outselling the 360 in Japan, EU (not just UK which 360 wins). Further, this December, the biggest month for consoles, the PS3 beat the 360 for the first time. the PS3 had its best month yet while the 360 saw a sharp decline...even INCLUDING the basic sku that is like $199. This seems to say that interest in the 360 is holding steady at best, and possibly starting to decilne at worst. Meanwhile, interest in the PS3 seems to be increasing as Sony's saleshave risen world wide this past year.

So what does that say? What more can MS possibly do other than more of the same, which hasn't really HELPED them do anything other than tread water?

Worldwide it's possible but who really cares at this point. It's pretty sad that Sony has to be hoping that by the end of the current gen they can take the 2nd spot lol. A far cry from what they were last gen. To me MS did one hell of a job stealing Sony's thunder this gen. Before any of you Wii fanboys jump in here claiming how wonderful Nintendo did.....yeah they have done well, but not for anyone wanting them to improve from last gen. Nintendo has increased their bank accout but has done NOTHING to increase their software library. Tell me what the difference is between this gen and last for Nintendo? Nintendo has the same 1st party title releases and HORRID 3rd party releases......what has changed aside from them selling consoles to more kids and Grandpa/Grandma.......the software they offer remains basically the same. On the other hand MS has increased it's hardware sales while increasing it's software library when compared to last gen. It has stolen all those exclusives and made them multiplats. Well going by Chart track and GFK, the PS3 is about even or past the 360 in Europe. And since the 360 came out nearly a year and a half before the PS3, it's pretty easy to see who has been outselling who.

Iagree with this poster, all theconsoles are winners in their own right but microsoft gain a lot of momentum this gen compare to their original console.

I think your going by sony's PAL region figures which also included Austrialia/New Zealand and large parts of Asia, whereas Microsofts PALfigures are pretty much based on western Europe
