IMO if one of the big 3 were to fail I think it would be Playstation and there would only be Microsoft and Nintendo. That's purely based on what's happening right now with them.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
sure. in this scenario that'll never happen, it'd be awful if anyone but microsoft was the one to go.
If Microsoft screws up with their Next Console then I can see them leaving. Same thing can be said about Sony though,
but it is going to be pretty hard for any company to lose out; Sony and Microsoft are almost equal in sales and
Playstation, Xbox, and Wii are like HUGE NAMES!
-------
In my opinion, I'll actually like a fourth company to jump in, into the console market. (For very good reasons =D)
Apple would be perfect, even thought I am an Apple Hater but still would be cool.
M$ should fail for the improvement of the industry.kuraimen... Yeah but they won't. The thread title is asking 'would', not should. We already know you're a ps3 fanboy with an innate hatred for MS so we didn't need to know that you think they should fail.
Apple home console. $1500. Instant hit. 10 million sold in first week. Gaming dies a little inside. If Microsoft screws up with their Next Console then I can see them leaving. Same thing can be said about Sony though,

I honestly doubt any of them will go anywhere, but I guess I'd have to put my money on Microsoft. The ONLY reason I say this is that they are too focused on the casual market while still pushing core prices and aren't doing much of anything in terms of first party games. It just seems like they are on a bad path. Sony, on the other hand, has learned some valuable lessons and has been picking up steam for a while. They haves some great exclusives coming out this year, too. It's kind of like the "Tortoise and the Hair." Microsoft is taking a quick nap while Sony is chugging along, almost to the finish line. Like I said, though, I don't think either are leaving the race anytime soon. There's no need to mention Nintendo. Of course, they aren't going anywhere. MrSelf-Destruct
been meaning to ask you, what show is your avatar and sig from?

Dude, threw his back out and can't move. That's why he tries to catch a whole burger in his mouth. :P All I needed to be was drunk to try that.Microsoft as,
1. Kinect is successful, but not the next wii like they hoped (and invested 500+ M in)
2. They have euthanized their 1st party
3. Microsoft is a very big $$$ oriented company, and the xbox brand has been delivering profit as well as the Zune in many of their minds(aka in the red). And now the zune is dead, xbox division may follow if sales drop
4. They don't have as much invested in game industry. Nintendo only does games, and Sony has a much larger developer list, and console + handheld divisions
I don't really see any of them dropping out of the console market. If I had to choose, I'd guess Microsoft.
Sony. They are the smallest of the three in terms of revenue and profit. KC_HokieThat's not true anymore. In the 3rd quarter of last year Sony brought in a $500million+ profit while MS brought in $300million+.

[QUOTE="SAGE_OF_FIRE"]Microsoft or Sony, Nintendo has always been the most profitable. KC_HokieNo they haven't. MS (the entire corporation) profits exceed both. I thought we were talking about video games? The Xbox and PlayStation division has always been less profitable than whatever Nintendo was doing at the time.

No, I'm not joking. I am, however, only referring to the gaming divisions.

Why only gaming divisions? The parent company has as much to do with the future of a gaming division than anything. And the OP was comparing parent companies. They make the ultimate decisions.[QUOTE="MrSelf-Destruct"][QUOTE="KC_Hokie"] You're joking, right? MS makes billions in profit per quarter.KC_Hokie

For Sony and Nintendo yes. For MS...they make so much money they don't have to. Haha. Na, I have no problem with them. I certainly don't want to see them fail. They just don't have anything that appeals to me. I'm really hoping this Project Cafe changes that, though. The more games and systems I can get my hands on, the better.
Id much prefer to see Microsoft go than the other two. I wish I would've bought a PS3 this gen instead.

They make the ultimate decisions. this is a gaming site that talking about gaming? were not talkin as a company whole....haha somone shows proof and now u switch to " why only gaming divisions" lolMS is the only one I can see going out, 360 had hardware issues with will make people hesitant about the next xbox add to that their absolute lack of first party and the whole timed exclusive thing is out of the bag when it comes time to switch to a next gen console MS is going to have to do a lot to get their fanbase back, I mean people are pretty dense but you can only turn your back on and scam people out of money so many times before they catch on

That's just ridiculous. The reason they made the 360 after taking the less-than-impressive sale rates of the original Xbox is because they learned how to expand their product and make a profit.
