If PCs invade the living they could dominate consoles

Ok so hear me out. I got two PCs one in my study for serious shooters, rts, racing sims and flight sims and the other connected to my HDTV

Just bought flatout ultimate carnage and played it on the TV with a wireless controller and it was great. It was a console experiance on a PC. And microsoft Live is pretty good. Starting to really like it now that its free :)

Anyhow the point I am making is with a PC you now can have any experiance you want. Want mouse keyboard and competetive gaming online you got it, want to laze on your sofa and play games like kane and lynch, flatout, devil may cry 4, Trackmania you can, want sim games using a josytsick and wheel you can.

I have a PS3 and its collecting dust. There are a few exclusives on it so i am glad i did buy it. But my PC gives me the most fun.

Why not just use a console downstairs instead of using a PC. Well the PC lets me view my TV shows from the bbc and channel4 and other naughty sources, watch my dvds which are upscaled, use my PC as a media center for all my music and browse the net with a wireless keyboard and mouse and the list goes on.

With steam playing games is really easy, just double click an icon. no disks needed and steam auto patches my games. No need to get off my sofa for most games.

So what do you think if PCs start been used in the living room will they pose a serious threat to consoles.

Still needs better wireless controller options, better support for gamepads in all games, and possibly something like Wiimote, and they need to be easily configurable and widely supported. KB/M from a sofa just doesn't do it for me.

Also the upgrading scares people, there needs to be an easier solution but I have no idea what that could be.

My PC is in my living room. As are a lot of them.

PC's will overtake Xbox360 this gen, and possibly PS3 (although it will put up a fight) but it will not overtake the Wii.Tony-Harrison

no, and the reason is this...hear me out. most of the titles that interest me (note, my opinion, not fact) are coming out for consoles first (mass effect, GTA4, MGS4, SMG, etc). the PC does not offer those titles (at least, not right away). certainly, PC graphics are superior. does that matter to me? not in the slightest.

It's just your typical console user who finally gets to play online (like pc users have been doing for years) with there cute little control pads for fps and with a program (mplayer did it better and was out years and years ago and we have many different program like this) and thinks there genitalia is bigger than it actually is.

MGS4 can't compete wth graphics and hardware of the pc look at crysis a smaller company on pc could make a bettter MGS4 game. the small company can do a MS$ style game on a cheaper budget too!

look at fallout and farcry they get more attenion on consoles that re:5 which is a hollywood game!

Do you game on your PC on relatively large sized monitor at 1920X1200 or 1680X1050 resolutions sitting 1-2ft away from the screen? I'm not telling you that you do, or do not, only asking. The visual quality, in addition to the seating position, yields itself much better to the attention and appreciation of fine details and subjectively a sense of immersion --- it's in your face, the screen is absorbing so much of your vision.

If a PC gamer is telling you that this is, or would be, the preferred experience for everyone, then they are sadly mistaken.

However, most likely, they are saying it's their preferred way of gaming. I would agree --- it absolutely, indubitably, unmistakably can be a significantly more immersive gaming experience.

Both systems also have different economic value. COnsoles are "currently" viewed only for entertainment purposes while PCs are an all-around object. No one knows if it may or may not change in the future.

Gaming wise: Looking at trends, some genres like FPS, strategies, Wrpgs, Mmos are before inexistent on consoles (and suprisingly, the bulk of consoles - sad to say). Hardware-wise, the Wiimote is currently advancing controls for future gens. TBH, i see a future when Consoles become mini-Pcs + standardization + "perfected" innovative controls + kb/m compatibility + great online. If PC stays at is right now, it is possible for its growth to become stagnant in the future.

The graphical leap wont be as impressive in each succeeding gen.

And Pcs are still far from the user-friendly-ness of consoles. (no standard is really a strenght and a weakness).

Everything seems to be about graphics. Crysis is a horrible buggy game and i don't understand how anyone can say the game was that great. Why do you think they dropped support.

In one year or less the PC will be too far gone for console to compete 360 is old and PS3 is old already. Pc's are getting more and more user friendly. Pc's will be getting more and more cheaper this time next year the 8800 gt will be like $100

In about 6 months to a year Pc's will be running it real smoothed
