If PS4 Pro is $299 next year - does Scorpio stand a chance?

By then Sony will have built a significant lead, and will also have an even bigger library. Whereas Scorpio I find it hard to believe it will be $399 with the specs they are touting. More like $499. A $200 difference is pretty big. Wouldn't you agree, SW? Does the Scorpio really have a chance?

Objectively speaking, if the Scorpio is really $399 (Microsoft certainly can afford operate at a loss) then it will destroy the ps4pro. The os4 will be perceived as the cheap console whereas the Scorpio as the premium. Anything more than $499 than you're better off going for pc. At the end of the day, the general user will be playing multiplatforms in which case Scorpio would be ideal. For the high end user, it is utterly useless since next year Volta cards will be at 12TF.

It's hard to know how people will react when Scorpio is released next year... we haven't had a situation like this before. But I think if it's priced appropriately, it'll do well. People like having the latest and greatest hardware.

No way Sony is dropping the Pro more than $50 next year. The PS4 slim and older models just got to $300 as a permanent price cut. And it makes no sense to take close to a $100 dollar loss on an optional console. That caters to gamers with more cash to spend.

Only way I see this happening is if Pro doesn't sell well at all and they start seeing serious drops in purchases.

The Pro being lowered to $299 when the Scorpio take its throne just shows Sonys desperation. Sony will just release another PS4 Pro model adding new features but retain the price point it is now.

Both Scorpio and PS4 Pro has similar GPUs with the main differences are with clock speed and silicon level refinements.

CPU and memory bus width are also different.

The better question will be if MS will have the stones to have Scorpio price point at anything above $399.

another thing i'm wondering is why cows seem to think the PS4 Pro will dominate the market because of price when the Xbox One S exists.. think about it:

if youre a mainstream casual gamer with a 4K HDTV, why buy a PS4 Pro when you can get an Xbox One S with a Ultra HD Bluray player for $100 cheaper?..

If youre a hardcore gamer who wants the best for your 4K HDTV, why buy a PS4 Pro when you can potentially get Project Scorpio with an Ultra HD Bluray player and native 4K graphics for just $100 more?..

I mean, anything is possible but it looks like the PS4 Pro doesn't have a clear advantage in either case..

Yeah, I joke a lot around here but it really seems to me Sony shat the bed. Looks possible to me that Pro, Slim and PSVR could spell disaster for them pissing of their user base and losing millions of $$$$$ along the way. We shall see.

That would a pretty desperate move by Sony to lower the price that much after only one year. If they can find a way to do it though and still turn some profit after a game purchase or two, then I guess why not do it.

Depending on its specs and 4K and having a 4K Blu ray player. It will warrant the price and have the Xbox Library and BC backing it up. You'll have the plethora of apps available on Xbox as well. Scorpio will sell fine right around $499. If Sony is hurting and worried and pull the $100 price cut for PS4 pro I expect MS to be strategic in the pricing. Hope it happens and the gamers win. I'd love to see a sub $450 Scorpio.

I think it is unlikely the Pro will drop that much in a year. Unless it is really struggling, as others noted. I will also be very surprised if the Scorpio clocks in at under 500. If it does, it will probably sell like hot cakes. But if they honestly want to push forward with their billing of it as a 4k cruncher I don't see it coming in under 5 bills

Of course the Scorpio won't be leading this generation anytime soon nor ever, nor will sales be a deciding factor for me to enjoy consoles (it never has in my 34 years of gaming). If that were the case, I would have easily purchase a PS Flop4. I'm not emotionally insecure or butthurt dramatic when it comes to an electronic plastic device like most Cows are. However, without a doubt in my mind, Scorpio, will be a success and will deliver in the goods. And I'm sure more cowering Cows will likely jump ship because, hey, they've been "power hungry" for a more powerful console since Generation 5 (N64 >> PS1). And that "power hunger" rattled their emotions when the OG Xbox hit Generation 6 (Xbox > GC >>> PS2).

The Pro? People wont be to anxious to jump to the PS4.2 this year. I still think Sony will remain rock solid in its track record and delay the thing but it already is living in the shadow of Scorpio. The most powerful console ever conceived will destroy all. Any price point.
