Poll If Scorpio fails, is Xbox done this gen? (109 votes)

Yes, they're done. 39%
No, people will still be loyal 34%
Another n64dd poll? wtf? 17%
other. 10%

What say you system wars? If Scorpio is too much money, or isn't that impactful, do you think microsoft will start falling apart at the seams?

First we would need to define what failure is to you. Because failure in Xbox eyes is often different than that of gaming fans. It seems the threshold is much lower to gamers. Next you would need to understand the goals set forth for this upcoming product to determine if they meet those goals or not. For example, many on this forum said the elite controller would fail in retrospect I would say it was a success even though it targeted a sub set of gamers.

Yeah, exactly.

But I'd say no matter how well Scorpio sells, Sony fanboys (and some in the media) will still say it "flopped" or "failed" or whatever rubbish they'll spew out & that this must mean that this will be "the end of Xbox", even though Phil has said they're already planning for the next console.

@ronvalencia:

I saw that. So, Zhuge is the source. Fine then. If you draw the line, you'll see that Xbone is under 30 mil SHIPPED and PS4 is now +60 mil. SHIPPED. And as i said, MS would scream out lout how Xbone is oupacing X360 like they said almost year and a half ago and which isn't the case now. MS really need a good news about Xbone sales, not about MAU's. Logic sense. So, they're under X360 globally. And X360 surpassed 30 mil. SHIPPED in May 2009.

Much less success than 3DS and Wii U sales combined.

Doubt it, Switch isnt gimmicky like them. Parents wont fear it like they did Wii U and 3D.

They will fear that $360 minimum price tag. At that price a Parent is better off buying their kid a full featured tablet.

They need a cheaper Switch Mini for the little kids.

@emgesp: They wont find a cheap tablet that can play Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Minecraft, etc. Plus most kids will get both anyways. And they will get a Switch Mini, like ive been saying since day one. Youll swing around once again like always mate, you always do.

They have Minecraft for both Android and iOS devices. There is also Super Mario Run and Pokemon Go available as well. I'm also pretty sure Nintendo has some new mobile games in the works.

The benefit alone for 1080p gaming and forward thinking of hdmi 2.1 and game vrr mode and when jumping to 4k later on, Scorpio is win/success in my book.

Also, im surprised that Scorpio is reaching a wide audience at markets i wasnt expecting. Most likely to younger kids keeping parents informed of scorpio coming this winter. Amazed at how many parents have been asking me about scorpio at work, not surpassing nintendo switch as thats the go to system in elementary k-5. But surprised to hear chatter about scorpio from some of the students and parents.

They will easily run on most $100 - $150 tablets on the market today. They playing different is irrelevant to kids who have no prior history with other Nintendo products. For a lot of them Super Mario Run will be their introduction to the Mario franchise.

Scorpio is not going to sell huge numbers. It is a premium product that is not targeting the average consumer. For people that want better quality and performance and don't mind spending extra, they will get a Scorpio. Otherwise, people will continue to buy XB1 S. It is up to MS to generate enough interest in the Xbox/MS brand with exclusives on both Xbox consoles and PC. MS is making the right moves. Now, they just have to deliver on content. We will see how that pans out going forward.

From Daniel Ahmad's chart, XBO is slightly better than Xbox 360.

2005, 2 months

2006, 12 months

2007, 12 months

2008, 12 months

2009, 5 months

~43 months for Xbox 360 and https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-360-sales-top-30-million-microsoft/1100-6210405/

Daniel Ahmad's XBO chart stops at ~37th month.

From 1st to 37th month, XBO is tracking Xbox 360 shipment.

You are desperately changing the story. LOL

Not for the price it isn't. Its no IPAD, but it works great for general use and most games. The point was those games don't require powerful tablets. That tablet has a 4.5/5 star rating out of 32,000 reviews.

I dont think price is a contributor to failure so I believe this poll is flawed. I own every console out there and I will continue to buy them no matter the price. I'm sure there is quite a few people like me. There is also the point where MS says that all of scorpio's games will be playable on the xb1 so it's not a new console launch as it is an upgrade to those diehard fans like me who want one. If sony comes out with a true 4k console I'll buy that too.

They're already done. There's no way to catch up unless the fill E3 with new ips that don't suck and release Scorpio for about or less than a pro. They've got three years tops. I don't see it happening.

It won't sink them. They will just try again on the next Xbox, however, their long term goals are for a unified gaming platform that will run the games on any of their hardware options, being regular console, super console, or Windows PC platforms. The only problem with this is that they need games to draw in the peeps. I mean they get all these multiplatform games, but they need exclusives that people can't get elsewhere. That's what will kill them in the gaming industry, not the hardware platforms.

Xbox Scorpio is effectively "Windows 10 S" Surface Gaming.

Windows 10 S = Windows Store only software distribution installation.

@ronvalencia: Windows 10 S is a joke. They're trying to sell you on security, but they could just as easily provide a setting in vanilla Windows to restrict installs that aren't signed from the store. Just like Mac does (or do they already have it?... in which case, what's the point?)

It's a plot to drive engagement with the Windows Store. Either developers have to list their items in the store, or people will be driven to Microsoft's competing services (Groove Music, for example).

Well I think the major issue Microsoft focusing on the Scorpio instead of focusing on games and pushing the Xbox 1S. It's the same problem with the Pro. Both are not needed. If anything, this should be a longer gen.

These mid-cycle, half-next gen machines are a waste imo. It's one thing to do a slim redesign, it's an entirely other issue to do a Scorpio or Pro machine.

But you don't have to upgrade if you don't want too... I think it's a good thing that they are available for those that want them. That's the good thing about them doing it this way, all are backwards/forwards compatible.

I dunno but Microsoft seems more interested in getting rid of it since XBO games can be had on the PC through Xbox app... so I guess it is a matter of time before they give up and make their 4 years old idea of only digital will finally come true... on PC.

I haven't made "30 million shipped" assertion in this topic.

My argument is XBO has slightly better than X360's sales pace and XBO didn't exploit Wii U's failure.

And as i said, MS would scream out lout how Xbone is oupacing X360, which isn't the case. Logic sense.

That's your narrative.

Lisa Su: record semi custom sales

For AMD's POV

PS4 displaced Wii.

XBO slightly better than Xbox 360 sales pace.

Result: record semi-custom sales.

Dude, Xbone is under X360. You showed the Zhuge's charts, now you desperately changing the story. LOL

You haven't properly countered Daniel Ahmad's chart.

From Daniel Ahmad's chart, XBO is slightly better than Xbox 360.

2005, 2 months

2006, 12 months

2007, 12 months

2008, 12 months

2009, 5 months

~43 months for Xbox 360 and https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-360-sales-top-30-million-microsoft/1100-6210405/

Daniel Ahmad's XBO chart stops at ~37th month.

From 1st to 37th month, XBO is tracking Xbox 360 shipment.

You are desperately changing the story. LOL

Nice try.

X360 launch November 25th 2005.

Xbone launch November 22nd 2013.

And your calculation is 43 months but same-time frame but they didn't say that at all in gamespot's link. LOL!

Gaming is a multi billion dollar industry and growing. Microsoft will always want a piece of that pie. No way in hell they get out of the business.

They have already doubled their money on Minecraft alone. They are not even close to being done.
