If Someone Wanted To Buy A Console Now, What Would You Recommend And Why?

So this is one of those stupid which console should I buy threads, just from a SW regular lol.

I voted PS4 Pro. Personally, my reasons would be exclusives+PSVR (+PSVR exclusives). VR looks better on the Pro, so I'd choose that over the Slim, though if you already have an OG PS4 (like me), that's fine. Of course, there is also the chance that you don't like Sony exclusives, in which case maybe the high userbase for multiplayer is your thing.

Like everything, it depends what their needs are. In a vacuum, I would say a PS4 Pro. It has a nice mix of exclusives, graphics and price point. It's the most balanced console on the market. You don't miss out on much by having it.

There is no correct answer, it depends on what the user already has and what he wants.

I would recommend they invest in a gaming PC first and foremost because it is the best for games and does so much more than a console. If it must be a console recommendation, then the X1X is my recommendation. It is the most powerful, has the best multiplats among consoles, best controller, and some good exclusives (shared with PC). PS4 Pro would be next recommendation because it is the second most powerful and has the best overall exclusive lineup. I would not recommend the Switch unless they are buying it specifically for the Nintendo exclusives and are fine with that.

Anybody that would just recommend a console to somebody without first understanding what they value in video games is not being helpful. Different people value different things in a video game console and those values determine which console is the best one for them. There is no one console that is the best for everybody.

It would depend on what that person wanted out of a console. The ps4 has the largest library, but the Switch is a portable but still an early platform. I'd really only suggest a Pro if someone were interested in VR or a complete graphics whore.

The one with the games they want to play.

@Shewgenja: Are you serious? The library on the Ps4 is tiny. If you want to go for library, go with Pc. xOne also has more games iirc. The only system with less titles is the Switch which isn't even a year old.

The ones that can play Forza Horizon 3 of course. I am semi-kidding, but basically I would have to ask them what kind of games they prefer and if portability is important.

You want Brodude games/online multiplayer? X-Box

You want cinematic AAA games/lots of muliti-platform games? Ps4 Pro

You want legendary exclusives/indies and hybrid console/handheld? Switch

There is no right answer.

Certainly not a question with a single "buy that" answer that fits everyone. Ultimately it would come down to what type of games they want to play and how much they want to pay. If I had to choose a single console (and PC is completely out of the question) I probably recommend a PS4 you get all the AAA multi-plats plus a handful of good exclusives.

I don't often play on a console though (my PS4 had one outing last year) so my first gut instinct would be a PC, if it was affordable for the person I was making the recommendation to.

I would tell them to do some research and make up their own goddamn mind!!! 0_o

I picked xbox one x just so I could help the lems win a poll for once. They really need a win.

Any average person? Anything but the Pro or the X. Those arent really for the average public.

I'd recommend the Xbox One X because it's strong as hell, it's line-up includes blockbusters like Halo and Forza Motorsport, has a genius design for a controller and plays your dvd/blu-rays.

Obvious answer is the one with games they want to buy.

If you have a PC, switch. If not PS4...I guess...but get a PC.

There are more Playstation fanboys on this board than any other group so therefore we all know that Playstation is going to win nearly every poll.

A Wii, PS2 or Xbox 360. Widest variety of quality games. The Wii gets GC games through BC, PS2 gets PS games through BC and the Xbox 360 just had a fantastic library.

@storm_of_swords: I will vote for Xbox one x on every poll from now on. We need to get these lems a win. I know these past few years have been tough for them.

Numerous times I've been recommending the Switch to people in this situation and they've come away happy and enjoying it. I'd probably lean that way.

It all depends in the end though. I'm hard pressed to not recommend The Master Chief Collection and the Xbox One's backwards compatibility, or the PS4 and it's great library of exclusives including some of my favorites like The Last of Us, Uncharted Trilogy, Bloodborne, and soon Shadow of the Colossus and more. Regardless of either of those they can also get a bunch of multiplats.

It all depends on the preferences of who you are recommending the system to however on a general basis I would recommend the Xbox One X first. I think that it has a better controller, online infrastructure, has much better backwards compatibility to the Xbox’s previous platforms, is a more powerful system that gives a better bang for its buck, and has the ability to play 4K UHD Blu-ray Discs.

Damn, I like Gears and Halo, so far my PS4 is a COD/Overwatch machine which can also be found in X1, why didn’t I get them for X1 ? Because I have purchased COD for PS since PS2. So what would I recommend ? None because it doesn’t depend on what I want.

Nintendo is NOT even an option. The simple fact switch won’t be getting 99% games that PS/Xbox/PC get is reason enough.

PlayStation has the most and best games. So Get that over Xbox.

A. Yet Pc is the only real option, when the amount of games is the argument. Also this is System Wars, not Console Wars.

B. No, even without the 360 games the xOne has 100s more than the Ps4. So using the amount of games on the system is a really poor argument, when the Ps4 can only beat a system that's less than a year old.

why? 180-199 price point with game included is just too cheap.

One s also is a 4k hdr disk player if you own a 4k hdr tv.

One s is so cheap that anyone can get one :p

What would I recommend to the mythical creature that wants to game but doesn't know any game let alone have one that caught his/her eye in a era where people are streaming 1080p game footage to a device that is in your pocket that is sold by the millions...

I accidentally voted PS4 Slim but I'd recommend the Pro. It has the best balance of exclusives and 3rd party and the best bang for your buck performance.

The reasons ?

An already massive library, both exclusives and multis, with great variety for all kind of experiences. JRPGs, Platformers, Shooters, Action/Adventures, Cinematic, Story driven, Horror ... you name it.

And last but not least the apparel support Sonys consoles getting. PS4 is already 4 years old and exclusives and NEW AAA IPs keep coming something noone else can quarantee at this point ~( see Nintendo ). This means PS4 owner will get games till the very last day when for competition ... QQ.

Add the VR, add the fact that PS4 can easily stand as a primary system, the console exclusives ( not that matter to me but its something i guess games like Street Fighter 5 for example ), the price to value ratio of the console ( when value = amount of games you getting over and over ) compared to competition ... Easy job, easy choice for this generation.

So you cant go wrong with PS4 whatever the case. Its for a reason most of lems and sheep, owns a PS4 most likely. How not to.

for someone who just says "recommend me a console. no specific games. no friends play on a console. just want a general gaming console" then a PS4 slim. i dont think the extra 100 bucks would be worth it for the pro and they are unlikely to care about the benefits of it or the X1X anyway. games wise they will be covered. online services wise and access to stuff like netflix they are also covered. cant really go wrong with the recommendation. the X1S isn't an awful idea either as it will also have them pretty much covered but the PS4 is the better console and costs the same as (or maybe a little bit more now) the PS4.

I dont think the slight upgrade in graphics the Pro offers justifies $100 more tbh. For $100 less one can play the same games and have more or less the same experience. Mid-gen upgrades are waste of money and a terrible idea imo

The switch. It at least has plural exclusives worth playing. The PS4 and Xbox one have been out since 2013, and still only one exclusive worth a **** each. Trashy machines for substandard sewer scum.

If they are a new gamer either a BC PS3 or an X1X if the money isn't a problem.
