Poll If Someone Wanted To Buy A Console Now, What Would You Recommend And Why? (84 votes)

PS4 Slim 14%
PS4 Pro 33%
X1S 4%
X1X 26%
Switch 23%

Prior to release, and early in a new gen, there's a lot of arguing based on speculation and waiting for greatness. As well as, slow releases of "next-gen" games and reliance on cross-gen offerings.

Now that the consoles have been out for some time to garner large enough libraries and for the manufacturers to establish the direction they're going, what console would you recommend to someone who wanted to buy a console right now? And this is for someone jumping straight in, not an upgrade or a secondary console, so the mid gen upgrades (Pro, X1X) are treated as separate recommendations from the base model

So what console would you tell someone to get and why?

@foxhound_fox:

Yeah recommending a system with BC is what I was thinking too. If Nintendo would get thier shit together with the VC on Switch it could be a haven for classic games.

So...

  • PS4 Pro
    • Pros
      • Largest library compared to its competitors (it has both western and eastern games).
      • Can play VR games.
    • Cons
      • Not future proof. Games will probably remastered than be playable on the next gen console.
  • XBX
    • Pros
      • Some games bought for the console can be played both on PC and an Xbox.
      • Future proof games. Games bought now could be played on the next gen console.
      • Strongest current console.
      • Most stable online connectivity and probably is the best among the competitors.
    • Cons
      • Lacks eastern games support
      • Can be found redundant by gamers because of its no games exclusivity.
  • Switch
    • Pros
      • Hybrid. Can be possibly played anywhere because it can be played as mobile.
      • First party games are usually great compared to its competitor.
      • Greatly attracts 3rd party indie developers compared to its competitors.
    • Cons
      • Currently has the fewest library.
      • Online sucks and you have to pay for it,
      • Lacks 3rd party AAA support.
      • Joycon sucks. You have to buy the PRO controller to fully enjoy the NS.

As a person that recently built a PC that is just slightly bigger than, but 100x more powerful than an Xbox One, I would suggest doing that.

Save your pennies. It’s worth it. Or just buy a Switch.

PS4 Pro, not even close. Great balance in tech, online, multiplats and exclusives.

Close second PS4 Slim, tech isn't bad and it has the rest of the benefits.

For me the Switch is next, for the unique gaming.

Xbox is last. No exclusives mean I have choices to do without and I won't miss out on anything.
