If Super Mario Galaxy 2....

If Super Mario Galaxy 2 didn't have the word "Mario" in the title and there was a different main character, I guarantee it would not have gotten such high reviews. Im not trying to hate on Nintendo, I used to be a huge Nintendo fan but I have realized that they just rehash the same game over and over again. The worst example of this is Zelda. Zelda ocarina of time is my favorite game of all time but since it came out, nintendo has seriously completely rehashed the game over and over (except Majoras mask). But anyway, it seems like alot of people who are saying Super Mario Galaxy 2 deserves a 10 are blinded by nostalgia. Im not saying SMG2 is a bad game but it really is not as great as everyone makes it out to be and without Mario in it, it would have got lower scores.

...except that SMG2 was and is totally awesome. And I know I'm not blinded by love for Mario or nostalgia cause I hated NSMBWii. SMG2, like the first SMG is just straight up epic. Accept and move on.

I disagree. Unless you have gotten all of the stars you CAN'T say that. SMG2 is easily much harder than a lot of games these days taking that into account.

i personally couldnt get into the game very much, it was a lil boring but nevertheless still good. just doesnt receive the ratings it got

Galaxy is brilliant because of incredible variety and level design Mario may have helped the sales, but not the review scores.

Well if it was a different character people would probably be bashing it as a blatant rip off of Super Mario Galaxy.

im not toatally agreein with these guys, but the point is that they got high scores. IMO, NSMBW could have eaily gotten something like 8 as i found it old and unrefreshing, still a blast tho with coop. I also believe SMG2 should have gotten 9-9.5 as i dont think it deserved a 10. But hey i dont go arguin it, just my opinion. I like halo when alot of other ppl hate it, so it just is wat it is.

It's better to play the game, than to play scores. And level design, art-style, challenge, and fun are completely separate from characters. Would Halo be as good without the Master Chief? Yes. Would God of War be as good as the God of Love? Yes. :P

I can't exactly say that the SMG games would have gotten the scores they did with any character at the helm (they wouldn't work with Master Chief :P) but if they were a new IP, they would have gotten the exact same score, since they acheived such high praise thanks to the gameplay.

The worst case of this is zelda?....

If SMG didn't have Mario and had a different character but it was the same game then it would have scored the same and people here wouldn't be talking about Nintendo Rehashing the Same Game.

Whats really irritating about these threads is most of the creators confirm in their first post a) they haven't played it and b) they have no plan to because all Nintendo do is rehash. Somebody needs to dig out the Super Paper Mario pic about complaining on forums me thinks :P.

all you people complaining about these threads LOVE them, dont even pretend otherwise. you know this to be true

exhibit a: you continually post in them, when just ignoring them completely would be far more effective as they would sink off the first page in like 10 minutes

exhibit b: it gives you a chance to pc+1 (this should probably be exhibit a, most important)

exhibit c: it provides another opportunity to defend the game, which is easy because its a popular position, and you can usually be a little bit brazen about it with nothing on the line--even more so than usual on the internet

The problem with you logic is that Nintendo games don't get their review scores based on nostalgia or the name that's on the box. Twilight Princess got a 8.8, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption got a 8.5, New Super Mario Brothers got a 8.5, and Super Mario Sunshine got a 8.0. All of those fell below AAA levels in score, which mean Nintendo games are judged by the same standards that other games follow.

Super Mario Galaxy got an 9.5 which means its not impossible that its sequel could have gotten a 10 if it refined the formula.

TC, you say that SMG2 is rehashed, and it's score is based on nostalgia. However, if the game was a new IP, then critics would have more of a reason to give a 10/10 because of it's originality.

Of course, if it were a new IP, it might be seen as a rip-off of SMG. But that's besides the point I'm trying to make :P.

Since then Nintendo has released 3 Zelda's. Majora's Mask(which is nothing like OOT), Windwaker(which was different than OOT) and Twilight Princess(which was suppose to be a "clone" of OOT because thats what people wanted!!!). So I say you're logic fails pretty hard. I think GS said that when Galaxy 1 came out that it would have score just as high if it wasn't mario. A good game is a good game no matter who's on the box.

And you wanna talk about rehashes...lets get GoW3, GeoW2, Bioshock 2, GT5, Forza 3, Halo...most sequels rehashes it's predecessors. They keep what people like change some other things and add new features. Don't get me wrong Nintendo does it too, but so does every other damn company these days. Games get refaced every now and them, RE4, but that doesn't always make it for the greater good.

So I'll say you played one 3D mario you played them all, played one CoD played them all, played one GoW you played them all...I could go on and on but I think you get the point. Core gameplay always stays the same just gets tweeked a little. But you're whole Zelda thing is BS.

Galaxy 1 deserved a 10, Galaxy 2 didn't, and neither did GTA4 or MGS4. The reviewers were just fanboy blinded by nostalgia...
