Poor young SMG. It promised so much yet delivered so little. It seems everybody was expecting a Gigantor - Mover of Consoles, much similar to the way Halo moved X-Box's a number of years ago. But alas Nintendo could not find anything along those lines.
Which indeed raises the question: If SMG did not move consoles, then what will? The answer will be discovered in a few minutes. But first let's get our facts straight.
When the Wii burst out onto the scene, I was nothing more than a disgruntled adult, disillusioned with life looking for an escape. Wii does not deliver too much in the way of an adult escape for me in the way other consoles do. But enough about me, what will move Wii consoles if SMG did not?
The answer is simple: nothing. Nintendo seem to be using the same formula everytime that their games just seem to be the same thing each time. They take a turn for trying to be as innovative with the wiimote as possible rather than focus on gameplay. The reason why they won't move consoles is because every child who has bought a Wii already bought it for the innovation of the wii mote. If none of the games previously on the Wii appealed to gamers, then what chance does SMG have of appealing to gamers as it just sticks to the same formula as most games available on the Wii.
What this means for other consoles like the PS3 is that the Wii console will not sell too many more units in the upcoming years. PS3 is set to release new innovations with their console and are also yet to release their console moving games like God of War, Final Fantasy and GTA.
Does the Wii have any of these trump cards up their sleeve? No. They've shown their hand. Too early it seems. And that has been its downfall.
In summary: what game will move more Wii's? Answer: nothing.
