All 1st party games are flag bearers for their respective consoles, some even become mascots. But all are designed to raise the profile of the console and boost sales.

That brings me on to KZ2.We all know that sales of the game have been slightly disappointing, but cows seem to be ignoring or denying another obvious truth here: that KZ2 was supposed to be the killer-app for teh PS3.

Consider the following:

-Tens of millions of dollars were spent developing the game along with its engine.

-It took around a half-decade to complete.

-It was Sony's showpiece at numerous events and conferences.

Now when you consider those things, there is no doubt in my mind what Sony was intending here. They saw the enormous success of Halo 3 and GeoW,and said "hey,we want I slice of that".

With all the resources devoted to the game there is no way Sony didn't expect KZ2 to move hardware, heck even MGS4 did for a little while. That's why, whether cows like it or not,KZ2 will not have done the job Sony wanted it to do if the PS3 doesn't beat out the 360 for at least one month.

PS3 already outsells the 360 most months in total revenue.

$400 per console versus $200 per console. Do the math.

If this arguement is what SW is all about, then SALES are now more important than ever before to us, the gamers.

I guess the Wii is the ULTIMATE MACHINE THEN.

From what I can see, KZ2 is selling quite well, and it's only one month old (Imagine...KZ2 has ALL YEAR to sell, and then next year, etc.).

----------------------------

BTW : KZ2 took 3 + years - 4 Years to make.

Revenue does not = profit though. That is why Sony posts huge money loses and Microsofts posts huge gains.

Wow this is getting old so fast. Both Cows and Lemmings need to get off the killzone 2 train.

Really, have we resorted to it failing because it isn't pushing hardware now? It's a AAAe game, which I chalk up as a win to the PS3.

What game has given a 8 million console sale increase? i dont think even MGS4 could do this.So if MGS4 The AAAAE of the PS3 didnt give it a large 8 million console sale increase in the short amount of time that it was released then HOW THE HELL IS KILLZONE 2 SUPPOSED TO DO IT?!Come on it's common sense is it realy that hard?

I think that's unfair to say, the 360 is $100 cheaper. That can make as much of a difference as a hyped, good quality, but not that well known game.

SolidTy

Yup. If this is the message the TC wishes to convey, then the TC cannot deny this fact:

Wii >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 360 >>> PS3

Wii is the best console this gen, and 360 and PS3 fail, according to teh sales game the TC wishes to play.

Anyways, I'm going to go play my games, since I can't play with sales. :)

Robbie Bach, President of M$' EDD, which includes the Xbox Division: May 2007

http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/features/bach-xbox-business-profitable-next-year/70371/?biz=1

"Right now we're doing a pretty good job," he said. "We're humming pretty well in the business. Our costs are a little higher than we'd like, [but] we're pushing those down; there are good initiatives underway to drive that. Game attach rate [is at the] highest level in history for a game console at this stage in the life cycle. The same with our peripheral attach rate. Xbox Live has over 6 million members.

"The pieces are in place to drive the proverbial billion dollars. Specific date—oh, that's going to depend on what happens in pricing, which partly we control, partly we don't. You know what happens in component costs—mostly we have pretty good influence over that, but there are places where we don't. Pricing on memory goes up and down seemingly like a yo-yo, so [we have to manage] through that. So, it's a business that will be profitable next year—we'll make money next year and that will be the first time, which is pretty exciting. And then the next two or three years are the place where you need to make tracks, and the next two or three years are where you have to make money."

Revenue is an irrelevant magnitude if not supported by profit. You wanna talk about revenue, you have to talk about profit. It's as simple as that.

It's no more meaningless than units sold without factoring in the price differential. In fact, revenue is more important than units sold.

Like with most people, I think you simply don't like KZ2 multiplayer because you can't turn you gun on a dime like with COD4 or Counter strike. Just because it's different doesn't mean it's sloppy.

That's half true, cows care about sales, they would definitely care if the PS3 outsells both 360 and Wii, well, to be realistic, the 360 at least, right? And why do I see threads of cows making "PS3 outsells 360 in Japan" last week?

Not necessary. We judge sales to see which console is more popular . That makes them a lot more important.

I think the gun play is the one of the only good parts. I mean sloppy by it still has alot of balance issues. Some classes are over/under powered. Server search, and other broken things that affect the online experience.

Revenue/Sales aside.

Bottom line: More profit= More money for the company. And money is the ultimate goal.

Case Closed.

Sure thing even though I already posted it.

Jill sells 100 glasses of lemonade at $2 per glass.

Jack sells 70 glasses of lemonade at $4 per glass.

Looking purely at units sold, Jill "outsold" Jack. But wait! Jill's lemonade costs 1/2 as much as Jack's lemonade, and, thus, Jill's total revenue is $200 while Jack's total revenue is $280.

How does this have anything to do with kz2 being bad?

Jill's lemonade stand sells 100 glasses of lemonade at $2 each.

Jack's lemonade stand sells 70 glasses of lemonade at $4 each.

Who outsold who?

lolfaqs

If Jack's lemonade costs him $3 a glass to make while Jill's lemonade costs him $1 a glass to make, what difference did Jack's higher revenue make?

And now we're getting into profit, which isn't what this topic is about. This topic is about who outsold who.

This man has a point.

No it wont but this thread fails for sure. KZ2 has already sold better than expected according to GG and Sony.

To outsell

• verb (past and past part. outsold) be sold in greater quantities than.

The 360 was sold in grater quantities than the PS3 = the 360 outsold the PS3.

Revenue has nothing to do with the verb "to outsell".

IronBass

So you'd rather be Jill with $200 in your pocket instead of Jack with $280 in your pocket? Ok.
