I don`t understand how you guys are comparing them, when Nintendo themselves said they`re not competing directly with the 360 and PS3.Rubedo

[QUOTE="AvinashTyagi"][QUOTE="jsd360"]I think it's a combination of things. 1. If you take it for what it is the Wii is actually a pretty fun little system. 2. Price 3. Marketing to a different audience 4. The Wii seems to be the "In" thing right now. But there is no possible way it will sell this well forever.jsd360Are you sure? there is a snowball/bandwagon effect with consoles I guess not. I mean look at how well the DS is still selling. I should change that to I would be shocked if it was still selling as well this time next year. Actually it will probably be selling better at this time next year.
1. It's software library will improve leaps and bounds with its real heavy hitters out
2. It's third party support will be much stronger as its only weak right now because the consoles success has taken everybody by surpirseÂ
3. New Wii colors proposed for next holiday season.
4. It could be selling much more right now, but its heavily supply contrained and shipments will increas 2X over the next little while.
5. price drop iminent next xmas

Maybe in Japan. Still doesn't change the fact that Wii Sports is a tech demo for the system and that, Zelda, and Mario are it as far as good games.

What about games like My Sims, Animal Crossing and the like? And Japan is 1/3 of the market, and a very influential part of the market, what they like will effect the WW marketPeople are buying it for games like Wii Sports[QUOTE="AvinashTyagi"][QUOTE="shsonline"]It's not bad. Actually there are quite a few promising titles, it just comes down to what style or type of game you like. I wanted a Wii for Resident Evil: UC, Metroid Prime 3, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, No More Heroes, and many others.Common responses to your question:
'The price is the reason the Wii is selling so well'
The Gamecube disagrees with that statement.
'The Wii is a fad, the hype will die out soon'
Juxtapose this with claims of a 'game drought' espoused by the same mouths that would call the Wii a fad. Also is the DS a fad? Yes the DS is a handheld but the two are intrinsically linked by philosophy, the Wii is an elaboration on the DS.
'The Wii is for casuals not hardcore gamers like us'
Despite the glaring flaws in the demarcation of gamers into 'hardcore', 'casual' or otherwise the key to the success of the Wii is diversity. Just like the PS2 it has a wide range of games for different demographics, abilities and interest levels.

[QUOTE="MikeE21286"]People are buying the Wii because....IT IS CHEAP! It sure isn't for the games that are out for it.Franklinstein
Just like they bought the gamecube because it was cheap? I can see maybe buying it because it's easy to play, but the price theory holds no water, it has been seen several times in the past that the more expensive system sells more.
normally, no money didnt play much of a part but people see the wii and then they see the $350 difference betweeen it and the ps3 and say whoa that is a huge difference. plus, the casual gamer is definetely scared off by the 400-600 dollar price points of 360 and ps3.Â
To gamers the wii isn't as good as the 360,it's selling well because it's going after a different audience who aren't usblacktorn
Wait, wii is selling only because of the price and not it's games? :o Well then, i guess we can all agree that Gamecube won last gen seeing as how it was the cheapest console. :) Seriously, do not think of the other option? That it is selling because of games?!Sonick54
What the GC was a whopping 100 bucks cheaper?
Why are sheep bringing up gamecube when trying to debunk CHEAP = the reason its selling.
GC was $100 less than PS2 and Xbox....thats not a big discrepancy. however...$250 with a game vs $400 with no game and $600 with no game...now that my friends is a difference.
The Wii is the fastest selling console of all time, a console adored by all facets of the media, a console that has struck a nerve with the masses and become a phenom... are youre saying that its just because... its cheap :roll:ÂWhy are sheep bringing up gamecube when trying to debunk CHEAP = the reason its selling.

lmao get real
If I had a nickel for every failed product out there that was comparitively cheap, then I'd have more money than Microsoft right now.
PS. If releasing a cheap console is the best way to win a console war, why did Sony and MS opt for more expensive consoles? What are they gaining from this... they're taking losses on their hardware anyway.
better yet... why doesnt Sega just re-release the Gensis, sell it for 10 bucks and mass produce it again...
See what Im getting at?
You phail.
but if we are looking at casuals it's only $300 for the 360Why are sheep bringing up gamecube when trying to debunk CHEAP = the reason its selling.

As stated earlier...its surely not the games selling the Wii. Phenom? lol Sheep are getting such big heads over sales when they have such crappy games thus far. Its been 5 months and its already the second coming of jesus.....just as you use your example of the Genesis...theres equally as many examples of things that sell like hotcakes when they first release then taper off drastically.Â
