It is because the games available on the system arent the mainstream games that core gamers typically enjoy; if the Wii was in HD, it would have the same games, just scaled up and smoother. If the software doesnt appeal to your tastes, then that is a fair enough reason to disregard the Wii when considerring a purchase, IMHO. Decrying it as the end of gaming as we know it, as a sell out console and actively hating on it is what is absurd. But I dont think if the machine was HD that this would be any different, either.would it have been more widely accepted by hardcore gamers. It's because its system wars. They think Wii they automatically assume all it has is Petz Horsez -- and the common misconception that Mario/Zelda/Metroid are rehashed over and over, while many could consider the same thing about their favourite franchises, though its obviously not true.Haziqonfireyeah well there are also lots of NEW IPs available on the other systems and the PC :) What do we get on the Wii? Badworld, Not Much Here (NMH). The most I've heard good of a game lately is freaking M3H

Hence the "RE" If you really need to ask, youre not keeping up with your gaming news ;) I didnt state that they were new, but they will be new experiences. The Excite series hasnt seen an installment since the N64, and the current games are very different in content and structure than Excite Bike. Endless Ocean is a new IP, though it has similarities to Everblue, which is why I put it under revivals. Punch-Out!! is new and fresh, though more similar to its predecessors than Excite Bike. Sin and Punishment 2 is a sequel to a Japan-only game, so it is, for all intensive purposes, a new experience. At least for those in the West. Xenoblade and The Last Story are also coming up. There is other stuff on the DS, other, currently unknown projects in the works, like Project Sora and whatever Retro are working on, Disaster, Fling Smash, Reginleiv, Line Attack Heroes.

And you decided to bring up the DS for some reason?
the only thing hd may have brought is a few more multiplat games like gta, bioshock etc. but judging from the gamecubes 3rd party support, it still might have been similar to the position it's in now only with a higher price tag, less exclusive 3rd party games because of development cost, and less sales.
i think nintendo made i really good decision with the wii that's paid off, because it's working well. regardless of whether the 360 and ps3 gets more 3rd party games, the wii still gets great titles like boom blox, zak and wiki, de blob that can't be done on the ps3 or 360. not to mention nintendo games, and therefore make it worthwhile owning.

And you decided to bring up the DS for some reason? You didnt really ask a question, except for "what is the most sold new IP", with which I responded that you really ought to know. If you have been living under a rock for the last four years, Ill let you in on a secret; its Wii Sports. But dont tell anyone, the hardcore community might give itself an aneurysm. You then shouted at me that revivals are not new. I know this, I am not an idiot. I also never said that they were; merely that some of the software Nintendo is releasing on the Wii provides equally fresh experiences, because the IPs are so old, or underused, that they might as well be new. My argument might be right or wrong, whatever, but I dont understand why you are finding it difficult to grasp the concept I am stating. I brought up the DS as an example where Nintendo, as a whole company, have been making an effort to introduce new stuff. In hindsight, that was a bit offtopic, but nevermind.
Ill let you in on a secret; its Wii Sports.eveileb-ekamI :lol: at this. Seriously. A bundled mini-game compilation? The only place it even sold a single copy was in Japan.
Some perspective:
N64 -> 3D
GC -> Graphics => Least successful
Wii -> Motion / IR
DS -> Touch screen
Story is irrelevant, gameplay matters, thus Mario / Metroid / Zelda are not rehashes. GC version of Mario at least, was a rehash, and is the worst game of the series.
SMG is the best thing that has happend in gaming history
Prime Trilogy control scheme is the definitive FPS one.
Zelda TP is sort of a rehash, again because it's a GC title,but Zelda Wii will fix that so np. WW succeeded because of the innovation in graphics, and the overall cartoony style made it fresh.

What? It's completely unremarkable. I mean, a great game, but it has 0 impact. Unless you have some fine nuggets of wisdom concerning SMG that I somehow missed. Also, story is irrelevant? Pshaw. Firstly, your last point. Simply no. The lock-on sidestrafing mechanics > every FPS mechanic => definitive controls.
Story IS irrelevant. Go read books for that. People who play Zelda games for the story, well, lets just say I feel sorry for them.
It's the best game in terms of polish, not in terms of impact.

Alright, the Wii __ series, as a franchise. Even if you want to ignore the fact that people bought the Wii purely because of Wii Sports, and want to disregard Wii Play too, that still leaves Wii Sports Resort on 13.58mil, Wii Fit on 22.56mil, Wii Fit Plus on 10.16mil with Wii Music trailing at 2.65mil. But sure, it isnt successful at all.

Realism is another term I dislike. I hate realistic gameplay.
Anyway I'm not being dead serious about our discussion, because it's preference based. I just wanted to give you perspective as to why the Wii is MY personal favourite :P
Mirrors edge and The conduit are 2 games that are awesome in concept, but were poorly excecuted; they lack polish. SMG is the contrary of that.
I hope Mirror's Edge 2 can be like Assassin's Creed 2 :) I wasn't really being serious either. I'm well aware of the perspective and really do think Wii Sports is awesome. Wii Sports has more impact than SMG by far, even though it lacks polish.Mirrors edge and The conduit are 2 games that are awesome in concept, but were poorly excecuted; they lack polish. If it was similar to the 360 and PS3 in terms of graphics then it would have a lot more multiplats but then it might not have as many of the cool "niche" (as in, games people ignore) titles so I'm glad it's the way it is.bobbetybob
Ditto
I hope next gen Sony and Microsoft ditch their traditional controllers and start doing more mainstream games too. Good riddance self-proclaimed "hardcore gamer"! You became a joke, an ugly intergity-eating cancer and i will not miss your idiotic antics and superiority complexes... ...that is, until motion controllers become a standard and history repeats itself; future manbabies and pimple-faced brats will yet again use the anonimacy of the internets to channel their dilusions of grandeur over anything new thats not completely aimed at their anti-social and close-minded preferences.Thunderdronewhy would you want more mainstream games? Nintendo and EA/Activision/Ubisoft/Sony/MS/SE/capcom/etc. are doing a great job with mainstream I want more Atlus and independent PC developers, not more of the same (which is definitely what Nintendo is excelling at this gen, just using a different controller to sell you the same thing in a slightly different way)
I hope Mirror's Edge 2 can be like Assassin's Creed 2 :) Jandurin
Yeah I liked the first game too. But I would prefer if they went towards a more Matrix-ish direction were you feel like being chased and not this straight forward platformer. A few stealth missions would be cool too, as those in between levels, like how the platforming part in UC2 is to the main game which is 3rd person shooter. But please get rid of the "you have all the time in the world" platform parts, that's just lazy. This game I'm describing could become one of my favourite games on the PS3, please make this game!!
why would you want more mainstream games? Jandurin
Is this a serious question? Why do i want more games that appeal to more people?
not more of the same (which is definitely what Nintendo is excelling at this gen, just using a different controller to sell you the same thing in a slightly different way)Jandurin
Switch "Nintendo" with "Microsoft" or "Sony", and "diferent controller" with "new chipsets and processors" and you described almost every single hyped-to-hell-and-back HD title out there.
And sometimes "slightly diferent way" doesnt even apply.
Bring on Move and Natal.
wouldn't you just want games that appeal to YOU? why concern yourself with others? And well, yes. That's what I said, everyone is already making mainstream games. ALL OF THEM, pretty much. So why'd you try to make the HD consoles seem worse when I'd already lumped them together?Is this a serious question? Why do i want more games that appeal to more people?

Quite simply YES.would it have been more widely accepted by hardcore gamers. Because as of right not it has the games, so why do the majority of hardcore gamers still think its a joke.

I fully agree with this statement. It's not about me or you. What pleases the majority = for the best. Gamers are against Nintendo because they feel like someone is invading their space. They are afraid that their games as they know and love them will be lost forever.
Take one example: FPS.
We've gone through Goldeneye / Perfect dark era to Halo / CoD. The biggest difference is in the multiplayer department, it's no longer split screen but online. The last console FPS game I loved to death was Timesplitters 2 and I was extremly excited when they announced that the 4th is coming to the Wii. I'm more into the older types, but as long as people are happy with Halo I'm totally fine with the situation. The next step is to kill off dual analogue controls and move on, this is what todays gamers are afraid of.
wouldn't you just want games that appeal to YOU? why concern yourself with others?Jandurin
Because "others" are alot more than "me". More content that appeals to these "other" folks creates awareness of this hobby. A hobby many here supposedly enjoy.
For example, nowadays i get home and see my older sister completely addicted to Mario Kart, Professor Layton, Brain Training and Bust'a'Move on her precious DS when 3 years ago she wouldnt even bother with videogames in general.
You know what that is? Thats progress, we are finally getting somewhere and these individuals who vocaly fight against this growing awareness of their beloved hobby are nothing but dead weight. Stupidly fighting against something that will do nothing but help grow the industry that provides them with this kind of entertainment.
The funny part is that creating more Wii Sports and Wii Fits will have very little impact on your RPG's, God of Wars and Halos. These will still sell because there are still people interested in these products.
In fact, the Gears of Halo market has no right to complain, they have their brown shootahs and blood'n'boobs slashers delivered by the buckets.
Meanwhile, the NSMB and Professor Layton market are 1000X bigger and what do we see? People angry that these companies want to offer these poeple more variety.
To those i say; GROW UP!

Screw progress. All I care about is having fun gaming. If you want to be a crusader for vidya game acceptance, that's your deal, but that's a pretty boring game imo.It would still have the same lame controller channelling the games into one direction.
It wouldn't necessarily get the multiplats for the same reason Gamecube didn't.

Hm?
It has its fair share of new IPs as well. Off the top of my head:
I mean all those games are 'good' games -- none of them are 'AAA' -- if thats what you want. I mean I don't like some of those like MadWorld, and I know you don't lol but I liked No More Heroes. I mean the Wii definitely gets way too much hate here, when it actually has a good library of titles - Its just a 'different' kind of library then the PS3/360 libraries.
All I care about is having fun gaming. JandurinMe too. I probably didnt mention it but i DO enjoy these "terrible" games. Thing is, i enjoy seeing people who are close to me having fun with them just as much.
