So there are many fans specific to a console, so I have to ask... for those that enjoy a console exclusivly...

What would happen if Nintendo stopped making consoles?
What would happen if Microsoft stopped making consoles?
What would happen if Sony stopped making consoles?

Would you go to one of the competitor's? Would you stop playing games? Would you go to PC gaming? What would you do? What would happen to the industry?

I ask these questions kind of in retrospect to what happend to Sega. This is the first generation in nearly 20 years where there hasn't been a Sega system. God only knows what innovation we're missing out on because Sega no longer creates systems. Sega was the first to release a CD system (granted it failed). They were the first to make a memory card ability. They were the first to have a color backlit handheld. They were the first to have an online console. The VMU was one of the most innovative memory card systems I can think of. Sega will be missed.

For me, given that I'm a Playstation fan, if Sony stopped making the Playstation, I think I would probably go to Xbox. Not because Nintendo is bad or anything, but because 360 has 80% of the games that PS3 has and vice verse. I honestly think that if Playstation stopped production that it would hurt the industry because they have been in it for so long and have contributed so much.

Your thoughts?

I'd never stop being a gamer. Right now if Nintendo stopped making games, I'd stock up on all the Wii games out right now and buy myself a 360.

i think you answered your own question. if, for examples sake, sony and nintendo stopped making consoles then microsoft would have no competition and so people who wanted to play video games would simply use an xbox.

it would put an end to system wars... the humanity!!!

there is always the prospect of PC gaming, plus i consider all the consoles out to be worthy purchases so it wouldn't be that big a blow, just a bit of a dent in the amount of choice...

Luckily, neither of us are quitting anytime soon.

Same. The loss of Nintendo would be very dissipointing, but the only reason they would die would be because something even better came along.

Well you are not a true gamer. I've never seen such stupidity. There were great games before Sony and their sure will be great games after/while Sony. Fair enough if you can only afford 1 console and you stick with a console that has given you many great titles. But stating that you will never buy another future console if your fav console went out of business is silly. You should be a fan of games or a series of games not a goddamn console. Surely you love the PS brand coz of certain games/series and if they ported to say MS/Nintendo or Apple or whoever joins the fray surely you'd buy that console to support your fav franchises. I think some people need to grow up and quickly. Sony ave made great consoles but my loyalty and peoples loyalty should be with game makers rather than a specific console.

I'd go with PC gaming. As a matter of fact, I'm trying to make the transition to PC gaming as we speak. I'll be honest, I'm tired of buying consoles but I can't get enough of their games.

What would happen if Nintendo stopped making consoles?
If Nintendo stopped making consoles, I would expect them to continue with handhelds, and I would also completely expect them to become a 3rd party developer, regardless of what Nintendo might say about that now, so I would probably still be able to play their great games on a system somewhere .
What would happen if Microsoft stopped making consoles?
If Microsoft stopped making systems, I would continue to play my Nintendo systems, and I would probably pony up the cash for a PS4 (or whatever number they would be on by then), but all in all, if Nintendo keeps going down the "innovation" road, losing MS or Sony would just make the console market stagnate since there would be no need to push the envelope so to speak.
What would happen if Sony stopped making consoles?
See above. Just swap MS and Sony around. Same general problem.rabbidcrazy

If ninty absolutely went out of the gaming business, I'd be sad without any doubt, but wouldn't really be impacted too much by it. While I do enjoy Ninty games a lot, I don't really feel they're an integral part of my gaming experience.

If sony dies, I wouldn't care at all. Most of it's games would "jump in" to the Xbox, so I'm guessing no big loss here, since I'm mainly a xbox fan on the console front.

If the xbox dies, I'd probably beef up my computer and get a PS3, not biggie here either, except I'd be missing the amazing controllers MS has put out (the original Xbox controller was perfect for my hands, particularly, and the 360 controller is bliss).

Easy, the VC would keep me going for another 20-30 years. And by the way, what has Sony contributed to the industry? Dual Shock? Innovation -wise, they have made nothing worth mentioning. Even Microsoft improved on gaming with online (well actually Sega did but it didn't last) and they did motion sensing first. Nintendo did rumble, analogue, and wireless controllers.

If Nintendo dropped out, I would be a bit heart-broken because I enjoyed their games immensely, but it wouldn't be the end of gaming.. Great men die, new heroes arise up again. I probably drop more into PC gaming, probably get one of the two systems. Sony might have a bit a more pull, even if I dislike their 3rd addition a great deal, I would see how their 4th console turn out.. If they became back to what they were, I jump on that, if not PC most likely or a look into Microsoft consoles.. Without of Big "N", I still got my beloved classics and RTSs..

Honestly, i cant see any mega changes happening if either Microsoft or Sony dropped out. Their two machines are so similar i imagine any games previously exclusive to one would just jump over to the other.

Agreed, only hardcore company fanboys would do something like stop playing games all together.

+ I believe that companies ceasing to make games for PC is the same as a company like Nintendo, stopping all Wii Console productions. So please add it next time, i feel sorry if PC is not included. :(

If Sony stopped making consoles but games were still being made for the PS3, I'd keep doing what I'm doing. If the games stop coming, however, I'll get me a 360 ASAP.
