Then for every 720 games that sold, Sony gain profit? :?

I can see the debate in future SW if 720 uses blu ray: Halo 5 sold 5 millions! And yet it's in blu ray....:|

Man, SW will be boring....

*Sigh*

Sony co-developed Blu-ray, but in order to own it exclusively, it has to be patented. Now the tricky part is that if Sony patented Blu-ray, it will cease to become a standard format. And Sony can kiss goodbye to universal adoption. Just think of DVDs. Does anybody get a dime for each DVD sold? No. If someone actually did, DVDs would not have become widespread since it would have been a proprietary product. You can't have both.

Sony is part of the Board of Directors for the BDA, and a founding member, so they undoubtedly get royalties from the product. I could be wrong, though. However, you do pay to be on the Board of Directors.

Furthermore, MS attains royalties due to one of the codecs utilized in Blu-Ray, which is VC-1.

If 720 uses bluray? Isn't really a question is it, unless you think MS would cut off the retail market and go DD only. They sure as hell aren't going to stick to DVD when even the goddamn Wii U uses an offshoot of Bluray.

Sony doesn't own it, AT ALL. The PS3 just made it popular. There's like a dozen companies who are in on Blu-Ray.

If Sony's laptops use Windows...

Same story. Companies do allow other people to make stuff for them y'know.

Look at Samsung and apple. Samsung makes heaps of parts of the iphone, but look who got sued their asses off.

How?

Because that was pretty much Sony's huge selling point with their games and graphics
