Man I can't believe no one thought of this angle before. Microsoft is a genius. They pretty much own 95% of the OS market. Gaming on PC is an advantage that is spouted daily against Microsoft's competitors like Apple and Linux. Do you think Microsoft cares that games are going to PC as well. They are rooting for it. Either way Microsoft wins. Bwhahahahaah. Genius. bphan
Well of course you are since you'll need a copy of Windows to play a PC game or an Xbox console to play a 360 game. However unless the PC game you bought was made by Microsoft's own game studio they don't see any of the profits. They only make profits on 360 games and PC game that only they make.
you help microsoft by gaming on a PC literally as much as if you buy a computer for surfing the web.Hewkii
Not true. I don't think you understand where I'm getting at. An argument I use against people considering an Apple computer or Linux OS is Gaming on a PC, and since Microsoft Windows is pretty much synonymous with PC gaming. This is an extremely important benefit to Microsoft in general. You can surf the web on any computer regardless of OS so its not benefitting Microsoft as much as PC gaming is.

You're not by a long shot. This argument has been de-bunked a thousand times, let it die.

walk into a store, ask a clerk for a computer that you can surf the web with. guess what they're going to say?
I think majority of the people who have windows received it from piracy. The games they play on it has nothing to do with MS. It's like saying buying games for your PS3 is helping Nvidia...
EVen though lots of people will claim they dont use windows...ie...Linex,apple ext....most "i would say"98% of the pc world uses Windows. So yes, everyone supports MS in some way.FunkyHeadHunter
No royalty, no transaction, nothing goes to M$ when I'm gaming on my PC. The OS is just a product for me to play my games.
lets face it, theres more piraters out there then legit game buyers for PC, so either way, they lose out.RazMaTaz-1Oh really? Prove it.

It is actually in a way, but I won't explain it to you. When you're older you'll understand.

I find that highly doubtful........

yeah there is some money going to MS cuz they had to buy the pc with the os on it to make the game
I don't play many PC games, but when I do I play under wine. All my personal boxes/laptops run Linux (Debian based mainley), But I do have to use Windows at work. The last time I actually contributed to MS was when I didn't have a choice, I had to buy a laptop with Vista pre-installed, but I did wipe it off right away.
MS wont be on top forever, Open Source and Apple are gaining ground on MS at a very fast rate, and soon MS will have to fight for survival.

As a PC gamer, he is pretty correct.. Though Microsoft still holds the monopoly for being the pc gamers platform.. Unfortantely they were doing fine intill they released the dog crap that is called Vista..

Hm?? It's headed by intel, btw microsoft doesn't make any money off of any games unless they publish.
does microsoft get part of the profits if the game is being brought for the PC?lawlessx

that strtegy is actually all but genius because the 2 systems literally eat from each others napkin, you see, when you give people the option to chose between the 360 and pc you actually give them the option NOT to chose the 360, MS pretty much shot in their own foot

MS realizes ZERO financial benefit from the purchase of PC Games. ZERO. The only way they see money is if they publish the game.
That being said, MS is trying to strangle the PC market in many ways. As for gaming, one of the biggest problems is by keeping DX proprietary. The good thing is, OpenGL is still around and being advanced and can always be used to program games, and is just as, if not more powerful than anything DX offers. If MS were to collapse tomorrow, PC Games could always be made in OpenGL if they were no longer able to create them in DX. That's the bottom line. Also, MS doesn't see a penny for games developed in DX, there's no royalty involved. The day MS tries to charge for DX is the day all games start coming out in the OpenGL API. This isn't an option with the 360.
MS has no control over the direction of the games that come to the platform. It's open.
As for competition, Linux is getting better and better every year, becoming much more user friendly and far more stable than a MS product. MAC is also getting more and more games released on the platform which will only continue to grow in the coming years.
Overall, MS only has a sliver of the PC Gaming market, as many PC Gamer will buy Windows, but that's a one time purchase. Than you have to figure that every computer bought comes with a MS OS. This is a sale for MS reguardless if someone plays games on it or not.
I support Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony and so should all gamers. If there were only one or two gaming companies prices for everything would probably sky rocket.Ghost_Dub
The irony is how much money you spent on consoles..
look at age of conan for exmple it was only a pc game tittle however ms now wants it on concole. Then there is the witcher and some other games ms is looking to put on concole. look at spore for exmple

You do realise they don't make money off of games for the PC unless Microsoft makes them themselves.

DX is one of the biggest reasons Windows is the de facto gaming platform right now. In today's environment... when it comes to making a game, having a standardized target to aim for is a good thing, however much we may dislike it (read: look at the console development situation from a PC gamer's perspective, we're whiny spoiled brats). I mean.. they remove DirectSound in Vista and toss it back out to OpenAL, and look at what kind of hell's been raised over that.
pc gamers still need a operating system that means ms will still make alot of money off pc gamers. in order for sony to compete they should amke their own operating system. why because in the long run pc games willonly get better and ms will cash in. In a competive market every little edge helpsblackdreamhunk
False claim.. Even if you are not a pc gamer chances are you will have a pc with windows xp on it at the very least.
