OnLive only requires 2.5Mbps to stream 720p.

This is well below our national average and the global household download index.

Me?

2.5Mbps is laughable. Piece of cake.

I just can't belive how many of you gamers have such slow connections.

How long does it take to download something from Steam?

A PS3 update? DLC? How do you all do it?

It is simple, we buy the games and not rely on some random online service

Your internet speeds make me ever so jelly.

But alas, not much I can do. The area where I live has few options and none of them worth making a change at the moment.

I buy DD games...So internet matters. My internet speed is 15mbs. Not fantastic but I think good enough for Onlive. Either way, I don't use OnLive cause I don't want to. Simple as that. I'd rather use Steam and install the games. Bandwidth in Canada is expensive.

Hell, I can even play OnLive on AT&T's crappy HSPA+ network. It doesn't take much.

You assume that: 1) That speed is always consistant enough to play games on. 2) No download limits, or throttled peak hours? which pretty much most major ISPs do. fail.

I can run OnLive, but there's still lag. Plus my connection isn't consistently stable.

The fact that you can play OnLive on Tablets now is quite cool. I admit that. Its a reason for me to get it later on.

Been awhile since your last sales pitch Riku. Did OnLive not have enough money to pay you or something?

OnLive still sucks. Heavily compress streams and crappy visuals. Not to mention input lag which ruins some games. Gaikai will take off. OnLive will die in the flames from which it spawned.

It's no even about Internet speed, Australia has to pay for how much we can download. Onlive is a great idea...but alittle far ahead, I can see it becoming more popular once Internet is standardized.

I use OnLive for trying out games in trial mode, then if I like it I buy it since I don't like renting my games from a piece of sh*t service that lags constantly and only lets me play my games for 3 years

i've got great speeds and onlive still looks like ass.

sure it is better now than in the deep dark pixelated tiled early days of onlive but it is still pretty crappy overall.

i will say the play pass this they have is an amazing deal if i was going to bother with onlive i would get that in a second.

Well, this is my speed. Not the best, but I'm satisified with it. I download things pretty fast on Steam and my consoles.

So according to Rikusaki I should be good to go with Onlive. If "good to go" means "enjoy these 720p Youtube videos of games from 2008 that you can laggily control, right after you get done wrestling with the godawful menus!" that's kinda sad.

On the upside, Saints Row 3 seems freaking awesome. I can't wait to get it on Steam.

So what if I could run OnLive.

I don't want it...

I'm not wasting 3 GB of bandwidth an hour, even if I have the broadband speed.

You can't run Onlive well even if you have 9000 Terabits/second internet from Korea or Japan. Why? High latency caused by long distance. Internet speed is trivial. What's stopping Onlive from reaching the crown is latency.

I have a 50 megabit internet with 15 megabit upload... it still is input laggy, they don't even allow pings to see the whole trip latency. Onlive is only feasible if you have less than 10ms to their servers imo. Even at university it still sucks. Obviously the limitation becomes the speed of light at this point.

Or i can buy physical copies of my games, own them, add them to my library and play whenever i feel like instead of relying on my internet connection and/or an online service, somewhat turning my transaction into a rental rather than a purchase if the onlive servers are down or under maintenance i'm left with nothing so i wouldnt classify onlive as a rental. Its too soon for onlive and i'm not going to start using it now with all the hassle just so i can say 15 years from now that that used onlive before it was cool.

One thing worse than PC elitist it's ONlive fanboys. I have a connection that can run in perfectly. I hate the cloud, it's everything WRONG with computers. I'd rather have AIDS than to subject myself to cloud computing.

I've got a fiber 20Mb connection and the service is pretty useless as far as I'm concerned.

Well, not totally useless. I have a Nook color tablet and it's kind of cool watching people play games through the service on it.

Why would I use Onlive when I have a GTX 460 in my HTPC which is good enough to run pretty much everything?

Don't insult Youtube. Even Youtube has better video quality than Onlive. Here is game footage I uploaded to Youtube. If you view it under "Original" resolution then the quality is good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdXfd0_T20c

i wouldnt have the same level of hate for the cloud myself. i use dropbox and game save manager to back up all my saves for example. very handy. of course there are security and service concerns but both are a non issue for me. i know not to put private stuff on there (the most private thing being my CV :P) and if dropbox goes it wont take my files with it. but id never use it for games. the entire concept is nonsense. the game must run locally on my own hardware. i want to choose which service i use, i want to have the option to use mods and i want complete control over the settings. i will never, under any cicrumstances, give cloud gaming a second look. the cloud is great for providing other gaming based services (like game save backup) but its not acceptable as the main delivery.

It took me an hour to download something on steam the last time i checked.

A PS3 update will typically run me about 25 minutes start to finish.
