That's some high ping, considering the DL/UL :o

On campus connection?

Gxgear

Living on campus like a boss.

That's not the dorm connection is it? From what I've heard those usually sucks.

Yeah. The high ping always gives it away. I get 100+mbps at my school, but the ping is awful.

OnLive only requires 2.5Mbps to stream 720p.

This is well below our national average and the global household download index.

Me?

2.5Mbps is laughable. Piece of cake.

I just can't belive how many of you gamers have such slow connections.

How long does it take to download something from Steam?

A PS3 update? DLC? How do you all do it?

vtoshkatur

Why insult other peoples internet connections? 2.5 mps is the fastest internet I can get where I live.

Same here, and unstable as hell. But if I move half a mile in almost any direction I can get 10Mb/s or more...so it's just unlucky I guess.

I download 20GB games at 200kbps, like a boss.

HavocV3

try 90-96 kbps. Although I never tried anything larger than ~3Gb demos back when I was dealing with the lowest DSL offered.

has anyone here ever played MP with a 56k(dial-up)? good thing I was a dumb kid who had never experienced anything better back then......

Pfft, mine used to be 50kbps (not dial up). One of the oh so delightful perks of living in a 3rd world country that can't provide even the most basic services :|

with my 20mbps down and 5mbps there is obvious and unforgiveable input lag on games on onlive...its a s*** product and will never catch on till every one has god like connections and there are server centers in every city.

yeah, I wasn't being real serious about who had it the worst.

have you seriously attempted a 20gb on a 200 though? that must take more than a day:? I think I was pushing a 10 hour DL with my old connection when I wanted a ~3Gb demo.

crazy.

[QUOTE="Desmonic"] Anything above 100 MB/s is awesome IMO :P I must test the internet speed of my campus tomorrow.. should get some interesting results lol doubt very much it will anything like yours though :)Desmonic

oh god, you're killing me now.

anything above 10 mb is awesome:|:(

Don't worry I also started with less than 10 Mb/s. These things take time, depending on the country. Here in Portugal were not really that advanced in terms of service when compared to France or Spain for example, but since we have several companies fighting heavily for the same market things have been evolving quite well in terms of speed and quality :)

Right now I only get around 40 Mb/s on my laptop and PS3 (wireless) and around 50-60 on my desktop (cable). I don't have 100 Mb/s, but I have tried it at some places and it's great :) Can't even imagine the awesomess of the 380+ Mb/s D4W1L4H gets on his campus :P

I live in a rural area of the U.S. and the ISP we have to go through basically has a monopoly going for them.

but a little competition is exactly what it takes to get things moving. too bad I can't see it happening in these parts anytime soon though.

Anyway it's the same here, just about 15 miles away in another suburb of Denver my friends get 20mps connections.

Don't think I can run it. Damn.

D4W1L4H

You actually can't. Regardless of your internet speed, connection from Australia to US mainland will at best have a latency of 140ms and at worst 400+ ms. In either case it will not be an enjoyable experience playing a single player game where input lag shouldn't be experienced.

Onlive is blow average. Doing perfectly fine with a 8mbs connection and that is already 60$ per month. 50mbs is over 120$ lol and the point of having less lags than none is what exactly?

I'm not going spend extra $$$ nor waste my download limits on large non-persistent reoccurring content.

I'm already spending $110 AUD a month on telo charges.

My internet is way below that and some how I can watch hulu, netflix, and online game on psn/xbla with no lag. And you ask why some have slower connections because they are cheaper or they are the only ones able in the area. You do know that not everyone has the same cable or phone providers and some are not able in certain states. So please get off your high horse TC.

Also I was able to use onlive with a 1.5 mp connection.

Not going to lie, your internet connection isn't even that great, pretty similar to mine and I know mine isn't that great. It's ass to download stuff on PS3 still, though.

I could have the greatest Internet connection in the world and would still think online sucks... How would someone rather have a digital copy (not even the case with onlive) over a hard copy of a game? Makes no sense to me at all.

You know, Rikusaki got a lot of people to post their internet speeds in this thread...sounds like information that, say, OnLive might find interesting. Just saying.
