You can only play 1 system for the next 20 years. You can pick any 5 games games released during that consoles life. All games are playable regardless of online components still being active or not!! What is your system of choice?

PC
Civ V
football Manager
TW Medieval 2
Crusader Kings 2
Baldurs Gate collection
Vanilla good for those with mods they never get stale
Seems like an ok list of ration games.
One system for 20 years is unlikely let alone 5 games on it over that time period.
My friend, it's hypothetical.
My first thought upon reading this thread was to pick the N64 since it is my favorite console of all time and it has some multiplayer games with infinite replay value, but after I thought about it some more, I decided that I would need more than just multiplayer games and the N64's single player games don't have the same infinite replay value, so I decided to go with the NES instead and my 5 games would be:
Super Mario Bros. 3 is a game that I never get tired of and can pick-up-and-play at any time and have fun. Plus, it's competitive battle mode is one of my favorite multiplayer experiences to play with friends.
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, Contra, and Castlevania are three different types of games with two things in common. They are all incredibly fun and they are all incredibly hard. Thus far in my life, I have not completely beaten any of them without the help of cheat codes, but if I have 20 years to focus on replaying these games over and over again then maybe I might get good enough to beat them. Trying to master these games will surely keep me busy for a long time.
And as for Tetris... I need games with infinite replay value to last me 20 years and there is no game that has more infinite replay value than Tetris.
I guess PC. I still play some games that are +20 years old like Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far and Steel Panthers.
For games, I'd pick:
Far Cry 4
Quake 2 - also one of the easiest games to make LANable
Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far
C&C: Generals with Zero Hour expansion
Flight Simulator X
My PC also runs XP as a VM in VirtualBox. That means I also play the old favorites: Space Cadet Pinball, Minesweeper, and Solitaire. ;)
@uninspiredcup: I can't even fathom.
What's more disturbing is that you seem to have thought there was at least a slight possibility that it could happen.
X1X
Halo 6
Forza Horizon 4
Sea of Thieves
Crackdown 3
State of decay 2
That's serially a lifetime's worth of gaming content right there baby!!! :P
EDIT: I need to add one more.... RDR2. Now with all that I'm good for the next few decades. lol
If I went back 20 years, I'd be far less concerned with video games...
It's a tough question, though. For twenty years one system and only five games. That's crazy. That wouldn't work for someone with as short of an attention span as myself.
I can narrow it down to three systems:
GCN:
3DS:
PC:
The PC might win this one, if a PC could actually last twenty years. I doubt it.
PS4
- The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt
- Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 Collection
- Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster
- Persona 5
- Skyrim
PS Vita Master Race
- Persona 4 Golden
- Persona 3 Portable
- Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster
- Freedom Wars
- Grand Theft Auto Collection(Vice City Stories, Liberty City Stories, and Chinatown Wars)
Either one works for me tbh
PS4 or Xbox One probably-
Minecraft
Dark Souls 2 SOTFS
Dark Souls 3
PS4: Bloodborne
Nioh
Xbox One: Halo MCC
Dark Souls 1 since it's BC :P
Great hypothetical question. It almost gave me a stroke trying to hash out an answer. Many great ones listed, and as good as so many of the titles listed across many great consoles what you have to make sure of is that you pick "20 year replayability" titles, or that you bring a console from the wired controller era so you can use it to hang yourself.
Now since online can be accomplished I'll bring a Vita for its portable nature around my lost island with WiFi. I suppose I'll have downloaded Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max for PSP (which I do on my Vita). I will also use the Internet for rescue and naughty websites until rescue arrives.
Easy. PC.
1. Everquest 2
2. Tree of Savior
3. Starbound
4. Boarderlands 2
5. Minecraft
This should be enough to keep me busy for the rest of my life and then some.
20 years is a looong time, so I'm gonna need to cover my bases.
Console- XBX
1. I'm going to need an expansive game where I can do explore for years on end. Needs a long skill curve. Elite Dangerous should do the trick here.
2. I need a deep fps. Something deep enough that I can spend years digging into. Battlefield 5 if it's allowed. I'll take BF4 if it's not.
3. GTAV is a no brainer. 20 years and I might be able to grind enough money for half the content.
4. Forza 7. I'll need a racing game, and Forza is the best. My drifting would become epic.
5. Rocket League. I never seem to tire of that game.
